Doctors don't know what they're talking about.

Really sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Rants maybe?

Please, everyone, read this. It's Yahoo news, so it's a safe link, but if a mod could approve it that'd be good.

Things like this must be fought against by we who are most affected. Anyone who's read about the D&D persecution of the '80's should see that history is repeating itself. As gamers we must make ourselves heard, lest we be wiped out.

It's true. Anyone could be addicted to anything which is diagnosable to be an extreme case of addiction towards ANYTHING. Honestly, I'm not addicted to anything except having fun. \' Oh, and shouldn't this be in General?

I think a regular doctor knows more about addiction then you do, they don't study all those year just for the fun of it.

They DO got a point since you can get addicted to almost anything and people have died because they didn't eat/drink/sleep for a long period of time because of playing video games. I rest my case,

i dont see anything wrong :?

its true, more and more kids are being hooked onto videogames each day, and when they become hooked they do stop going out more and more, and you do get some levels of depression when you are not gaming.

i dont see anything about persecution?

we dont need to get ourselves heard, we are already heard by major corporations around the world ( who help sponser games and make games etc.. to cater for us). this is nothing like D&D and computer gaming will remain around for ever, most people you dont expect to even play computer games actualy do play them, ranging from the jock that beat you up 5 mins ago to the drunk sitting on a barstool or a hot shot lawyer in a city.

so what im trying to say is, this thread is junk and its in the wrong forum. and theres no rant really needed on it.

But don't you see? Saying that gaming addiction causes SUICIDE is like saying that the decline of pirates since the 1800's has caused global warming. Correlation does not equal causation, and it needs to be pointed out.

Did you really need to go and insult the whole religion of Pastafarianism?

Edit: By the way, we're working on getting the pirate numbers back up.

yeah, read this in the newspaper. the reason they say this is because there have been a TINY amount of suicides because of video game addictions. any practical thinker though will know that this isn't enough to say that addiction causes it, but rather how they respond to the addiction. therefore, don't sweat about this. oh and also this should go in off topic.

In a February posting, a 13-year-old identified only as Ian told of playing video games for nearly 12 hours straight, said he felt suicidal and wondered if he was addicted.

"I think i need help," the boy said.

Lmao. Funny read.

So... he plays 12 hours straight, feels suicidal, and wonders if he's addicted, and he "thinks" he might need help?... ok then...

Video games are NOT addicting, here's why:

Drugs ARE addicting? Why? Because they are chemically addicting. If you are a drug addict, and are immediately taken off your drug, your body will not be able to cope and you will have all sorts of problems. You need to go off gradually.

Video games are NOT addicting because they're not chemically/physically addicting. If your computer is destroyed and you never see a game again, your body will be just as healthy as it was before the incident and you can continue your life without interruption.

And yes, doctors are idiots. The medical system is very corrupt. The entire thing is about money, for example, the reason circumcision is the United States' most popular surgery is that many are persuaded into getting it done when it's completely unnecessary and actually very harmful and unnatural. But why? Because to the medical system each surgery is another hundred-dollar bill to add to their yearly billion dollar industry. Hospitals are a business, and doctors don't really want to help you - they're like car salesman... they want to lie and deceive to push unnecessary drugs and surgeries on you to get your money.

  • Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.
  • Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.

Uh huh. Doctors are "idiots", yet you think something can't be addicting unless it involves a chemical.

What are your credentials, exactly? You speak like a complete ignoramus on this subject.

Ever hear of gambling addictions? There are no chemicals involved there. Are you saying those aren't addictions?

How about sex addictions? Not real?

Free clue for ya: your brain makes its own chemicals in response to certain stimuli. That's what's involved in addictions that don't involve the ingestion of chemicals.

And yes, video game addiction is VERY real. I discuss it extensively on my site, and this is far from the first article on it in the media.

When you grow up, maybe you can become a doctor, see how much work, time and money is involved, and then see if YOU want to work for free, hmm?

Oh, you hit the nail on the head with the gambling thing!

Did you know casinos actually release toxic chemicals into the air that cause people to want to gamble more? Case closed.

And the reason doctors exist is to save people. Doctors are paid by the hospital; they don't need to be car salesmen.
