foofoomagoo
For the most part rap now days is what most people consider "thug". But to steriotype all of rap like that is wrong. If you are not big on the slang or "thug" attitude of rappers now days. I would recommend looking up some of the starters of the Rap music genre. These would include Erik B & Rakim, Grandmaster Flash, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, and Dr. Dre.These were rappers that rapped about thier life and what was important to them. These might be able to show you what rap used to be like before it went mainstream. 26M Crafting XP
warren211
Where did MTV and stereotypes come in from all this? Did I say anywhere that all rap is screwed up? Rap as a music genre is fine. Even though there's more talking then singing, its still just another genre. What I hate are people like Sean Paul or Chamillionare when they talk at 300 words per minute. Its not just sean paul because of his accent. Akon and Sean Kingston, both accented singers, are perfectly understandable because, unlike sean paul, they don't attempt to speed through their songs. As for MTV, I never said I had any problem with it. Not all rappers are the kinds I'm talking about. No, I don't hate them cuz they're richer than me. No I don't hate them cuz they sing better, or because they're black. In fact, I'm fine with a lot of rappers. Some rap songs like Chain Hang Low are catchy and creative. Not all rap is messed up, its just those few rappers who use way too much slang, repeat the same thing over and over and over... [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun. i123i
Guys we're talking on a mainstream level here, lol. ANYWAY, speed rap is awesome, just because the fact they can do it, if you think it's only mainstream rappers that are fast...lol...blackalicious anyone? I'm not sure how many speed rap songs they have but they had this one my friend sent me and I had to ask him if they sped up the words and sadly I can't find lyrics(could slow it down if I could be bothered). Since you're talking about things being repeated it's cause there's these things called bangers, basically a song that's meant to be most likely a dance song and is meant for the club...street bangers are those you would play in your car. UrbanDictionary is also your friend if you need to find a word also, you make it sound like they're mutilating the English Language and I found an article last night while searching for the etymology of the word "shawty"(never found it but the article was interesting nonetheless). In the article someone was addressing this other dude who said hip hop was demeaning the english language with slang but the article writer mentioned that languages evolve and can be kept to a certain niche of a community, seriously do you think Madrid Spain is ranting and raving over the slang in some other spanish city? Why does it matter to you? Your topic epically fails...lol..
ctp080188
It's slang, get over it. Any part of the world, any country, you will get slang. Come to London and ask why is a "car" referred to as a "whip"? Or in Nottingham, why is a "friend" referred to as "mush"? No point blaming rap. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED. Panic_Pants
first off, don't call it 'rap.' Rap involves some sort of rhyming skill. Call it what it is, 'hip-hop' second off, wait it out. Remember new wave? It'll all die out because it lack substance. CLassical music had substance, Jazz had substance, rock had substance. Hell, RAP had substance. Hip-hop is clearly overproduced to provide a quick hit of catchy beats. In the long run, investing into it for decades down the line is a bad idea. It will be romanticized like the hippie movement no doubt, but it won't last. If this music lasts and I'm wrong, I WILL commit deplorable acts. Why? Because in a world where souless hip-hop is a mainstay, humanity is drained from the world. The music demeens women, the english language, and makes white folk hate minorities more for SEEMINGLY bastardizing the culture. From my point of view, it makes me think less of black people as a whole; then I remember, you can't judge a book by a... yeah I'll say it, [developmentally delayed]ed cover. (PS: I apologize for spelling, I entered rant mode. I also apologize for those who don't get that it is not my dislike of minorities, but the way they are viewed in our culture, unjustly.) Guthix_Girl
i agree. completely. all there is to rap is guys waving there fingers around as if they are either flippin you of or pointing in a direction, using slang terms because they have no vocabulary, and the songs have 3 mainpoints. 1. money 2. women and sex 3. killing or getting in fights. and "gangsta" talk? get real. it makes no sense. "fo shizzle my nizzle yo dizzle" or whatever that crap that is. but on the other hand, there are some catchy songs even if i dont like what they stand for. Never take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive.
Lord_Omar_Iv
the songs have 3 mainpoints. 1. money 2. women and sex 3. killing or getting in fights. and "gangsta" talk? get real. 1. if i was a famous artist from ANY genre, I'd be flaunting everything i got when its comes to money, diamond studded grillz, platinum and gold and diamond chains, in my videos. Afterall i earned it. 2. women and sex sells period. the only people to blame are the women for ALLOWING themselves to degrade not only themselves individually, but as a whole. oh and u might wanna blame women such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and many other famous women celebrities for corrupting young girls into believe indirectly sex sells and that u need to look a certain way. For ****s sake even madonna has been doing it since the 80s. But hey, guess what!? they do it for the $$$$ too. and i guarantee u apart from all the women who have no problem being in rap videos lookin SKANKY, the rest of the skanky looking women on tv will tell u its for the money. i dont see enough young women taking a stance in todays society and going around boycotting the music in all entirety for the degradation of women rap has given. AND ITS NOT JUST RAP, its in other genres of music to. you wanna blame one genre blame em all and dont be hypocritical Lit - Miserable (pamela anderson is in the music video, enuff said  ) Trace Adkins - Honky tonk badunkadunk (take a look at that viedo, i coulda sworn it was a rap video with all the women in that video  ) 3. its real slang, at least most of it is where they come from. just cause u cant understand them or know what their slang means doesnt mean its dumb because the music wasnt probably intended for someone like you who cant relate other than liking the certain beat and tune of the song. and its lame to ridicule on people who came from poverty situations talking about what theyve experienced in their lives in their music. Id like to see you get shot 9 times (not literally) and make something of urself. or as a matter of fact would like to see you live in their shoes for a week in the real ghettos in this nation. and just in case u didnt know, its not their fault theyre born into a system where its almost impossible to get out of when it comes to the poverty level, especially with the president thats in charge of what i personally believe is STILL the greatest country in the world honest to god, im pretty sick of close minded fools when it comes to music. i believe everyone should have the right to listen to the music they like and want to and not be ridiculed by someone whos "outside the box" of a certain type of genre of music. redserpent4
I think rap songs contain way more political and important messages than anything else. using slang terms because they have no vocabulary I doubt it to be honest, Ill throw some terms and names given in rap songs at you which will be WAY over the heads of most of you and most of the artists who are more generally accepted. and the songs have 3 mainpoints. 1. money 2. women and sex 3. killing or getting in fights. Never listened to the right songs then have you? Try Twista's "Hope", Kanye's "Diamonds", Tupac's "Changes" or "Thugs Mansion" or "Dear Mama" or "Brendas got a baby" or "Baby don't cry." Eminem's "Mosh," Dead Prez "propaganda" and "gangsta" talk? get real. it makes no sense. "fo shizzle my nizzle yo dizzle" or whatever that crap that is. but on the other hand, there are some catchy songs even if i dont like what they stand for. It doesn't make sense because you don't know what it means. Thats your fault, not the rappers.

Those songs are the [cabbage] to dance to. The beat the mood everything. You pick anything apart to make it look like [cabbage]. But when you don't ever even try to use what it's made for how can you criticize it, you know nothing about it? You are proving to be one ignorant smart [wagon]. Congratulations. BTW sean paul is talking how jamaicans talk. His music was probably met for those TONS of jamaicans in US and in Jamaica. Those people don't have much to look up to. Sean Paul makes good music and is an example of good for those people. It isn't his fault your little white sister thinks temperature is a song she has to put on repeat 400 times to piss you off into making topics like these. i123i
notice he said, "gives it a chance" or something along those lines, ANYWAY, we could listen to any of those genres, a few songs from each that represent it WELL and then make a decision, but this idiotic OP picks the CLUB SONGS(not the worst of the genre, but what isn't the greatest of the genre either) which he then proceeds to pick at it.
