Shawty say What?

A rant about today's modern songs

How did these rapper words originate? What In the name of Saradomin is a Shawty, and why do people Snap at them? Why did the songwriter use "drank", which states that he bought someone a drink but then drank it before giving it?

The first time I heard "Party Like a Rock star" I thought they were saying "the potty of the rock star".

Don't even get me started on Sean Paul. I have a rule of thumb: If you can't understand it, Sean Paul sang it. I feel sorry for any poor guy at McDonalds who has to put up with this guy ordering a large list of food.

What are people "Poping, locking, and dropping"? Ever heard rappers tell girls to "snap their fingers, do their step, you can do it all by yourself"? It sounds more like what you'd teach a toddler to do. "Go on little johnny, snap your fingers and walk around! yay you did it all by yourself!"

I heard a song "its goin down". All they said was meet me somewhere, its goin down. what is goin down? why on earth would i want to meet them?

How in the name of God do you pop your coller? strap some dynamite to it? why do people make up a song purely about their coller, when there are better things to sing about, even from a rapper's perspective?

All I'm trying to say is... the English language is being bashed up by these slang-using, fast-talking, baggy-pany-wearing rappers with more "bling bling" then brain cells and have promiscuous as the biggest word in their vocabulary!!!

Does anyone else feel like this whole rapper thing is well... barbaric?

But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

first of all, everything u said wasnt funny second. id rather listen to music that has good a beat and tune and makes feel good or pumped up than listening to emo and screemo. theres tons of music worse than rap, so quit acting like a "BIA" as lil jon would say

Lots of rap songs are annoying, but there are some pretty good ones too. I agree with you about that buy u a drank song...it's just annoying. However, people like rap because it does a good beat and is catchy. Also, you can't tell what alot of rock bands are saying either. I think that its much easier to tell what rappers are saying rather than metal bands. What I personally would like to see is more rappers singing about stuff thats actually important, instead of repeating a pointless phrase over and over (It's Going Down by Jung Jok for example  .)

the real legends of rap..... Tupac, Biggie Smalls, everyone from NWA, Bone Thugs, Public Enemy, and others pretty much covered everything that was important already

Of course he "sells" himself better, he's in his late 20's to early 30's I bet, and I'm 14, he's been working since I was born pretty much..

BIG difference in age, and yea I bet he will make more money then me, but then again you never know, I could become a billionaire or something :P.

and I wouldn't be rapping for that kind of money, I want to be happy and do a job that I love rather then being in a job I hate.

Rap just isn't my kind of music. I can tolerate Linkin Park though.

Linkin Park's usually a hip-hop/hard rock combination though. An example would be Don't Stay by Linkin Park.

Oh and by the "drank" do you mean the Let Me Buy You a Drank song by T-Pain? That song's kind of gross.

Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

Don't diss rap, sure a lot of rappers are a just doing it for the money and hip hop is dead (to quote Nas), but there are still a bunch of good rappers who make legitimate rap. Most of the stuff hear on the radio isn't the best, just like all the rock you hear on the radio isn't the best.

Yea Buy you a drank is a horrible song ..... but linkin park sucks too, and so does good charlotte and fallout boy. There i said it

Yea I like linkin park. They actually sing about more important things in life then girls, drinks, and collers. Hands Held High is a pretty good example. I can understand it, it actually has a point, and has no rapper slang.

They're making money, you ain't, so right off you lose there lmfao. How can you diss something you don't like, is it because they're paid to do it? Is it cause they have more money then you? Those are usually the common reasons people hate. Buy U A Drank is directed towards women, if aren't female why do you care? Why are you bringin in songs from a year to a year and a half ago also? Do you know what poppin your collar is? Haven't you ever seen a prep? Ignorance of people on this board is funny, go cut yourself, [bleep]. lolololol if I wanted to be banned I could so bypass the filter with bold tags just to tell you kids how much I hate you for your ignorance lol, think of 6 letter words and 4 letters, both adjectives. I'm sure I don't have to remind you how much slang white people created.....you're just now complaining about the use of the word Shorty? Welcome to the 1990s my friend, you're almost 15-17 years late, if not more. I love how you target all of the dance songs....what a funny [bleep]...d***s(lil self editting I had to do here not to get banned lulz) are for chicks

=D> =D> =D> Let's congratulate the thread starter for turning to MTV to attempt to figure out the history and culture of an enitre music genre! Way to stereotype! [/sarcasm]

Some of the people on this forum has such a strong hate for rap, while they haven't even heard anything beyond the radio or MTV. There's more to it than just "I get money from the [bleep]es who be sellin' my bud", there's song that are deep enough to leave you there for hours thinking.

Rap is really a strong, creative genre, and if you wanna generalize it to mindless club songs, fine. Your loss. :|

I agree. I'm going to become a rapper some day, easiest job in the world. All you gotta do is make up a catchy beat with lots of bass so it sounds good(and annoys people around you) on your car stereo and put some repetitive catchy lyrics that make no sense to it and I'll make a million dollars! I'm set for life :D . I could retire after 1-2 of these songs.

Not ALL rap is like this, but all the mainstream stuff that sells is! so I'll sell out :P

i honestly think someone cant judge a genre of music if theyve only listened to a very limited amount of songs that fall under that genre. For myself, the 2 genres i listen to most are complete opposites of eachother. Rap and Country and theres a few other genres i like but not quite as near as those 2. i honestly think anyone who cant give any genre of music a chance has no right to even opinionate over other genres other than their favorite. even so, i dont like screemo (or watever its called) but still i dont consider it garbage because a lot of other people like it and can relate and i respect that. a LACK of Respect towards any other genres is wrong and shows your ignorance.

Listen to underground rap. The people that aren't on mtv, those who aren't doing it to be part of a big label company. Thats the best rap. Don't stereotype an entire genre if you only listen to the crap they put on MTV and the radios.

well today at 11:30 am 14 years ago i was born.. wo0t!!!
At 11:30 you should start holding your head underwater wo0t!!!
Stop acting such a moron.
