August 16, 200718 yr As i sit and watch all of the current sport related news on ESPN, it has become clearer to me about how our system works. As you all know, Michael Vick, the star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, is under allegations of hosting illegal dog fights at his house. There is indisputable evidence that he is guilty and no way around this fact. Also in the news, the NBA referee Tom Donaghy faces charges of betting on games, that have proven to have had mob connections, including games in which he officiated. He is looking at a maximum of 25 years in prison, while on the other hand, Vick, is facing under a year, with the benefit of still playing NFL (Although this is still in the works, i imagine a compromise will be created in his favor). Now how is this fair? I am no animal rights activist, but hosting dog fights (which no doubt include illegal gambling) deserves more than a year (not to mention all of the breaks from prison he will receive, to play football and train and such). Now officiating games that you have placed wagers on and NOT proven that he Fixed the games, as in made lousy calls in favor of the team he was betting on, is worth 25 times as long? Granted the referee must have signed something agreeing not to bet on any of the NBA games, but i still do not see how the legal system is working. The average guy who is also committing a crime, with lesser or equal severity is getting 25 times the prison sentence? You always see in the news that celebrities get DUI's and have some sort of illegal substance in their car and nothing ever happens to them. There is one exception of Paris Hilton who spent a whopping 23 days in jail for something she should not be allowed to drive again and she wrote a book and is profiting from her encounter with a water downed, fluffed up version of the law. I don't care what you say. If you are rich, famous or just well known in general, the law is not fully enforced upon you. What type of society are we to allow this to happen? I know, from experience, if you are caught with a minute amount of Marijuana, you are detrimentally effected. I am disgusted at what we allow to happen. Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it
August 16, 200718 yr well a normal person wouldnt have gone to jail for dui it just costs hella. and vick is facing a max of 5 years. My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet. These are the times that try mens souls...
August 16, 200718 yr well a normal person wouldnt have gone to jail for dui it just costs hella. and vick is facing a max of 5 years. Repeated and driving on a suspended drivers license is though. August 16, 200718 yr America sucks in general Economy, Education, and legal system. only thing that this country is good at is making a fool of it self, and breeding a large population of idiots which are oblivious to anything thats going on. I say execute bush, not impeach.. thats to soft. then MAYBE we'll be on our way to recover, but I'd still doubt.

August 16, 200718 yr You let O.J and Michael Jackson off the hook. What do you smegging expect?! This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
August 16, 200718 yr You could add the suggestion/idea, it could be faked? You know, just doing it for attention. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

You get what you pay for, to be honest. And LP, don't even start. If you hate America so much, move somewhere else. OH! BUT WAIT! You have it better than anyone else in the world, so you don't want to move somewhere else! Hypocrite. Back on topic...Celebrities seem to be able to get away with many things these days. Perhaps the reason is that they are able to hire the absolute best lawyers, who are skilled in the art of tricking their opponents into getting what they want. Unfortunately, every American has the right to their own counsel, so I see no workaround. Pretty sure they wouldn't care if Paris Hilton's dad owns a hotel chain, she'd be in jail for a while :P By the way, Barihawk, I think I live in the same place as you.... :anxious: catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
August 16, 200718 yr If the D in your location stands for Dallas, think 400 miles west. If it means my location, look outside your window. :P My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. August 16, 200718 yr Solution: send Paris Hilton back to jail. No, solution: kill all celebrities. Command the Murderous Chalices! Drink ye harpooners! drink and swear, ye men that man the deathful whaleboat's bow- Death to Moby Dick!BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!
August 16, 200718 yr Solution: send Paris Hilton back to jail. No, solution: kill all celebrities. Better would be to take Shakespeare's advice and kill all the lawyers, but that would get messy. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. August 16, 200718 yr And LP, don't even start. If you hate America so much, move somewhere else. OH! BUT WAIT! You have it better than anyone else in the world, so you don't want to move somewhere else! Hypocrite. I don't understand this really, just because a country is better than another doesn't mean it has no faults and that doesn't mean you should allow injustice to occur. I'm sure the founding fathers would agree with me in that to be patriotic to your country you must fight for what your country stands for - freedom, liberty, justice ect. Not sit back with your head in the sand and allow injustice to occur because Americans have it better than anywhere in the world (which is probably not the case either). With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. Unfortunately, every American has the right to their own counsel, so I see no workaround. Barihawk, i can't really understand your mentality. You state one of the most ridiculous statements in the world. "If you don't like it, LEAVE". Now if that doesn't remind you of a redneck who drives a pickup truck with confederate flags in more than 1 spot, then i don't know what to tell you. What you say is a fallacy in logic. Specifically the "Either, Or" rule. Someone states something and you only give one choice to another person. There is no middle ground, IE Fixing the problems in America. Which I believe is what LP was getting at. Meaning, you don't have to go around shouting leave everything you know and own behind because you disagree with a few sections of your country. So please, stop using that statement. People will respect you more and not feel like they have to stop listening to you completely. Also, i can't see why you are trying to defend the celebrities who hire the lawyers who in turn use lame loopholes in the legal system to get them off the hook. I can guarantee that the only defense the celebrities lawyer uses is, " you don't want to make my clients image look bad. They have been exposed to the public too much and shouldn't have their image ruined." Or something as such. So instead of applauding their ability to get them off the hook, why don't you ask yourself if that is really just. Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it

So instead of applauding their ability to get them off the hook, why don't you ask yourself if that is really just. From what I read, Barihawk wasnt defending the celebrities at all. And I do agree with you that saying "If you dont like it leave" to anyone who wants to fix a problem is stupid and illogical. But I think the reason Barihawk said it was because LP said that "America sucks in general". He doesnt seem to think there is anything good about America. If you really think that America is a hell hole and completely sucks (as LP seems to from his previous post) then why wouldnt you leave?
August 16, 200718 yr I was actually trying to make the point that LP is only trying to make himself look good to the European presence here that does not seem to like America, and if it really came down to it, he would rather stay here than move somewhere else. I in no way asked him to leave the US because he does not like it. It was a rhetorical statement. And by the way, I am of Confederate heritage, I am the farthest thing from a redneck you can find, and I drive a Saturn, thank you. The only time I fly the Confederate flag is on Memorial Day, and I fly the CSA flag, not the redneck Stars n' Bars. And Jackalope understood me. While I don't agree that Celebrities get away with this junk, we can't really do anything about it without violating the rights of every American. They have a right to legal counsel, any counsel they want. We can't force a legit lawyer on them. EDIT: And no, I am not a blind "I LOVE AMERICA" person. I have my faults with this nation too. However, it does not change my belief that we have it better than a good bit of the world in many regards. August 16, 200718 yr I don't find it a surprise that celeberties can make money off of almost anything. I guess that is their advantage though, I don't care if Paris made a book or whatever, just treat celeberties like the american citizens they are. Well for the American celeberties. Tbfgraphx14Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.
August 16, 200718 yr It's not just American celebrities, bud. It stretches from Iranian TV all the way to Bollywood. Hell, I can think of David Beckham right off the top of my head getting away with something because of his celebrity status. It's a worldwide phenomenon. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley
August 16, 200718 yr :wall: the reason Vick might get a year or under is if he is able to help the authorities crack down on dog fighting. if he can help identify some other rings in the country, he is rewarded with less time in jail. and btw vick is facing, or was anyway up to 9 years in jail i think not 5 Look its rob!
August 16, 200718 yr You figure, half of the stuff they do is a publicity stunt... the more trouble they get in, the more people hear about them, and the more people come to their games. Which means more money for them. Paris Hilton, however, should just go back to jail... no one really likes her anyway. She's tried to sing :-X , she's made videogames :XD: , and none of them are any good. Maybe she should just kill herself...
