An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.

 

 

 

"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

 

 

 

Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.

 

 

 

Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.

 

 

 

In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

In grade 5, my school at the time decided to ban: Tag, football, soccer, catch, and role playing games where the girls would pretend to be ponies or the boys would pretend to be some kinda character.

Pretty much. The reason was, the teachers didn't want to deal with it. Heck, the school recruited half the grade 5's to become peer mediators so that we had kids doing all the mediating work. That was sure fun :roll:

 

 

 

Oh and any kind of trading cards were banned. Not because of getting stolen, no that wasn't the reason, the reason was because kids where "getting ripped off" and crying about it to the teachers...

Lol, that's exactly what happened in my grade school. It was quite amusing to hear one of the teachers scream out, "No more pokeman cards!" :lol:

All the schools I have been to have banned ballrush, fair enough though, as it is pretty physical. But very fun, for those of you that do not know the game;

 

 

 

Play with a big group, 30+ is a very good size.

 

Everyone lines up at one end of a big field, and have one person in the middle as the tackler.

 

The tackler then calls a persons name from the lineup, and they then run and try to get to the other end of the field without being tackled, and if they make it or yell ballrush, then everyone runs at the same time to the otherside. Very physical, but so much fun.

big deal my school has a ban on it too and it should be banned in every school all that crap in the air in the locker room and the midget that sprays people with it when they're getting dressed... i hate him .

Pah, back in my day we used to play british bulldog (like tag, but full contact, rugby tackles abound) on concrete. If we got hurt we were told off for being damn fools by our parents and made to apologise to the dinnerlady for making her have to mop up our blood and teeth.

 

 

 

My god I miss being a kid.

I suggest the kids make the teachers' and principal's life a living hell.

 

It would work, because of the Kids and/or parents complain = rule change Forumla.

Not as bad as when they removed a play ground thing (it was like two 6 foot towers and a bridge between them) when someone fell off in elementary school :-k

That's exactly why it's so stupid to ban it, because it's just tag. And no it's not the sole reason for kids being fat. But lack of exercise is definitely a large contributor to obesity and tag is a fun form of exercise. If they were to ban every form of exercise that could get someone injured or hurt someones feelings, there wouldn't be many forms of exercise left.

If kids are unwillingly chased, why run away?

What the hell - if you don't want to play don't run. Then once tagged sit there and do nothing. If they want to continue their game they can tag someone else once it's obvious you aren't going to do it :uhh:

 

 

 

I seriously blame the kids who didn't want to play more than the teaching staff. Kid complains and rather than pointing out the obvious (fault of the kid) the staff ban the game :uhh:
