+++Lots of RANGE questions+++ (pleasure to read, with pics)

Featured Replies

Hi guys I wanted to get 70-80 range for quite a bit but never knew how, well now i'm about to find out (with your help O:) )

[hide=My ranger setup]rangersetupaf3.png

please not that I am getting black d hide right after i get 70 range. (69 atm)[/hide]

Where do I train?

These past few days I've been training at Fire Giants in Waterfall quest dungeon. I rather like it here, with good drops and a great safe spot, but I was wondering to myself is there a better place? If so please tell me.

What weapon/armor do I use

Now this is a big one, there are lots of possibilities for weapons armor. I was looking for something medium expensive but with a good xp rate. So here are my candidates:

~~~Magic short bow + arrows
This bow seems to hit very fast but not very accurate, although i like it because it's cheap. But what arrows do I use? I'm using irons right now but i wonder perphaps i should use steel mith or Broad arrows? Please help me out.
Dark bow + arrows
This bow seems to hit more acurate then MSB but seems rather slow although i don't know which one give better xp. Again the question of what arrows to use?
Seercul bow + arrows
I know nothing about this bow but is it better then MSB or Dark bow?
Crystal bow
I again don't know much about this one and it seems rather expensive but all the high leveled people sue it + it doesn't require arrows, I'm thinking of getting this one, but is it too expensive?
What armor do i wear?
Please reffer to my picture above and tell me if that is the right setup for me. Everybody tells me to get robin hood hat and ranger boots but i don't know if it's really worth it considering how much it costs?
Please answer my questions and help me with my range because I want a lvl 80 and I R HAWT
Use black dragonhide/karils armor. D bow + arrows can be 4m+ and crystal bow (recharging 5 times until they are 180k each recharge) can be like 2m~. I use crystal bow.
You can train in Pest Control mini-game or, Instead of using bows use red chinchompas + unholy book in the Marin Dungeon (The one with the zombie monkeys during Monkey Madness quest). if you are going to this dungeon, stand below the rocks that protect you and make all the monkeys attack you then shoot a red chinchompa. It will hit all the monkeys and good xp (Each red chinchompa is 700-800gp)
Hey thanks for your post, I figure I'll be using black d hide because it's cheaper (although not an issue, an issue nevertheless) and it has betetr bonuses.
Yes I completely forgot about pest potrol but I've tryed PC and didn't like it much however it's worth a try using range. And in my opinion chins are too expensive. Keep 'em coming
crystal bow on blue drags is how zezima did it, and it covers the cost of the bow. The ogre enclave isn't full of bots yet.
Oh doing drags I haven't though of that. I'm assuming you are talking about traverly dungeon? In that case I'll get my agility up to 65 then use pies for a quick shortcut, thanks A LOT for the advice, do you know where the safe spots are? + i need 1k d bones for 60 prayer so it all fits :D
Oh btw grats on 1650 total and all skills 60+ i'm doing that right now as well.
to the guy above me, red chins are kinda expensive unless i hunt them myself but I'll try em out
(nice 99 hunter!)
use black d hide and crystal bow at blue drags
he means the blue drags in the ogre enclave, must have started watchtower quest, and cristal bow is your best bet
move your house to yanille and dueling ring to cw, bank, and tele to house, then run to the drags
Hephaestos8.gif
I highly reccomend using a crystal bow, because after 5 charges it is very inexpensive to recharge and there is no cost for arrows. As for armor i say get blck d'hide and wear barrows gloves for vambs, this gives you a better range attack bonus.
Ok i got that, moved my house to yanille, got lots of duel rings (although glories will work just as well?) and how do i get to the cave and most important thing where are the safe spots?
Apreciate your help everybody now only 20k xp from 70 range which means soon a crystal bow!
Theres a cave and you have to distract the guard to get past and right as you walk in theres a blue drag and a pillar type thing you can stand next to and a bit back and range that, if someones there go to the left and you should see a rock coming out of the ground and a space and a nother one, you can stand behind that and range it.
Sorry if that was confusing but you shouldnt have trouble finding the spots once your there. :P
thanks it did help i did find the drags now jsut get 10k more range xp get my black d hide/crystal bow and i'm all set.
remember to bring an anti-dragon shield along too and NEVER EVER disturb the orge shaman there...talk to him and he will hit u a nice 20. fight him and you will die :-w
just so to give u an estimate of the price of crystal bows, for the first 5 recharges ON AN AVERAGE, 2.5M divide by (2500 X 5) = 200gp per shot fired. im talking about the average here btw. from then on it cost 180k per recharge so 180, 000 divided by 2500 = 72 per shot. take note that just like bolt racks each shot only has one use. for arrows although it may cost more, you can re-use them many more times. using a rune cbow with mithril bolts should work fine too. dont use ruby (e) as these are better for high HP monsters such as the steel drags.
maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cooking
life may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?
my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it
What armor do i wear?
Please reffer to my picture above and tell me if that is the right setup for me. Everybody tells me to get robin hood hat and ranger boots but i don't know if it's really worth it considering how much it costs?
Hello, :)
Personally I train range the cheap way so I'm wearing snakeskin boots. I shoot iron knives and I have the Ava Attractor (reward from Animal Magnetism) so I don't have to pick them up. I found out the attractor/obby shield/helm of Neitiznot combo is giving a very nice range bonus. :)
I hope it helps a little bit. :anxious:
For your gear, buy a god coif once you hit 70 and maybe ranger or snakeskin boots. Train slayer with a magic bow and whatever arrows you have. Crystal bows are good if you use them on dragons or monsters that give you some good drops to pay for the cost.
soulthresher.png
Congrats on 70 range. I will give you my suggestions for range training. :)
First off, I suggest that you range in the room West to the one you are in. There are a larger number of safespots, making ranging from nearly any stance effective. Now for equipment suggestions.
Head: Blessed God Coif / Robinhood Hat
Amulet: Glory / Fury
Body: Blk Body / Blessed Body
Legs: Blk Chaps / Blessed Chaps
Boots: Snakeskin Boots / Ranger Boots
Gloves: Blk [bleep]y Vambs / Blessed Vambs
Weapon: Magic Shortbow / Rune X-bow / Crystal Bow
Shield: None / Optional with Rune X-bow
Ammo: Steel Arrows or Greater / Steel Bolts or Greater
Ring: Wealth / Archers Ring
You could choose any of these items as equipment. I suggest going with the first option in all the sets, as it is cheaper, and simpler. There is no real need for Blessed Armour, aside from the coif.. this is unless of course you use your prayer (it gives a prayer bonus).
I also suggest against using a crystal bow until you are 80+ range. After 80 range you will see that range seems to get a lot easier, and more effective. If you use a crystal bow before this, you are likely not going to get the amount of exp that you wished for. It might take the mistake of doing this to find reason in it. It is how I found out.
Right now, and for quite some time I will be ranging in the Room West to the one you are in, in the picture posted above. You can come see me anytime I am in there, and I will be happy to help with any questions. I will most likely be in World 99.
Good luck with the ranging, and don't stop at 80, that's where the fun starts. :D
Grats on 70 range :)
Crystal bow and black dhide. Archer helm, frog leather boots, Avas Accumulator are easy to get and cheap way of boosting your range level. Otherwise have fun getting armour with great stats - Robin, Ranger boots, etc.
Usually a C bow for me (got my charges down) but on low profit tasks and trips I make my own mith arrows from scratch.
I train mostly on Slayer tasks but if I fancy some normal training it's usually Blue Dragons.
You only have 2 real choices;
Iron Knives on Fire giants
Mith Arrows on fire giants.
Both are qually quick at your level, you should get 25-30k XP an hour.
A crystal bow would be rather expensive, but using it at Blue Dragons could pay off.
DarkBow is slow xp, more like 15-20k xp an hour. I've never used a seercul bow, but I've heard it is rubbish :P
Goodluck ranging ^.^
I train mostly on Slayer tasks
I had been power-training range at the hobgoblins, but it started to become a real chore and as I was trudging to the crafting guild to unleash 77k bronze arrows for levels 71-80, I decided to try ranging slayer tasks.
I must say, ranging is fun again now that I switched. I hadn't trained slayer at all yet and went from level 2 to 20 on a single hill giant task (it's good to be a newb). I had to laugh (and I just knew this was going to happen) when I got hobgoblins for my third task. :P
To the guy who started this thread - Getting a crystal bow is easier said than done. Have you looked at the list of quest that must be completed? Ugh (although maybe you've already done some of them.. :))
LOL! You must be kidding me! They are at every possible dragon there!
When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.
I've just looked at the knowledge base and it says that blessed coifs give 1+ range attack bonus then archer helmet so i guess i'll go with that.
Although ranger boots have +5 bonus then snakskin boots they are rather very expensive so i'll go with snakeboots. Any ideas on how to get those?
Thanks, I will try out the west room and see how it works for me, hopefully I'll see you there :).
Hmm you say I'm not gonna get much xp from that, but that's allright ebcause i need 1k bones anyways and it'll be xp nevertheless.
Head: Blessed God Coif / Robinhood Hat-I am getting god coif now
Amulet: Glory / Fury-allready have a glory :D
Body: Blk Body / Blessed Body-got this
Legs: Blk Chaps / Blessed Chaps-got this
Boots: Snakeskin Boots / Ranger Boots-any ideas on how to get these?
Gloves: Blk [bleep]y Vambs / Blessed Vambs-got this
Weapon: Magic Shortbow / Rune X-bow / Crystal Bow-i think i'll be using crustal bow for dragons and magic short bow for slayer/giants
Shield: None / Optional with Rune X-bow-would
Ammo: Steel Arrows or Greater / Steel Bolts or Greater-I think i'll be using mithril but sometimes steel arrows
Ring: Wealth / Archers Ring-allready take care of:)
Thanks and hopefully I'lls ee u in world 99.
I think i'll be using snakskin boots instead of from leather because they give better bonus, everything else allready taken care of.
Ok i'll train range with slayer but i don't know which tasks are to range!
could somebody please list tasks that can be ranged?
Seeing as you have 99 ranged I assume you have lots of experience with ranged skills so I'm gonna try using your method.
I will be getting 60 smithing, smithing irons bars so why not make iron knives to boost my range lvl as well? I'll try making mith arrows or I can just buy then from other players.
I will be using crystal bow on blue drags only for their bones and hides, i'm pretty sure its gonna pay off. thanks for the adice
conclusion
From reading the great advices you guys've written here i've came up with some choices for my range training, they are:
-Ranging blue dragons in Ogre Enclave. not the fastest xp but it pays off.
-Using magic bow + steel (possibly mith) arrows for my slayer assigments.
-ranging fire giants in the west room of Waterfall dungeon using MSB with steel arrows OR iron knives.
I will post the outfits for this later on, because i have to go to school now (:() thanks for replying. Just one question:
Can somebody list all the slayer tasks that can be ranged, thanks
To find sellers for snakeskin boots, try the official forums.
Search the following keywords for results:
- Snakeskin Boots
- Snake Skin Boots
- Snake Boots
The boots can cost anywhere from 20-40k. It might not seem worth it for the range bonus.. but it's better than taking robin boots, lagging, dying, and losing them. :roll:
