Emo

Not everybody has as thick a skin as you obviously have. The world isn't exactly a nice place. It might be true that there are emos that are just conformists, yet the fact remains that the world isn't such a great place that everybody is happy and everything is sunshine. If that would be the case, there wouldn't be any emos.

Emo does not equal the psychological state of depression... Where I live 'emo' is a synonym for acting sad or depressed without good reason and for attention [Ex]. Chances are, you'll usually see smiling, happy, and joking 'emos'. Emo's don't get get depressed because the world isn't a perfect place. Their 'depression' comes from the fact that their middle class world, in which they have food, shelter, a school, computer, and have a bunch of scene/emo friends, is somehow 'depressing' [they have yet to prove a good reason for depression]. Most of their 'angst' comes from their 'girl troubles', but, miraculously, most of them happen to have emo and scene girlfriends and are in happy [well, at least non-dramatical] relationships. They usually hang around downtown all day and never do their homework and mess around in school [at least the ones where I live]. That's our local definition of an emo/scenester, and thats a pretty accurate stereotype for the ones in my neighborhood.

Emo == Label

Label == Bad

Definitely agree on that one. Hm.. on second though labeling migh have some advantages. To put it in a nutshell: Names have power.

Now, I can see people really being "goth" for extended periods of time, it not being a phase at all. Emo? Not really...

I can see where you are coming from.

Adding to that, when you toss yourself under a label; and you are people's first encounter with that label, you represent how those people will generalize the rest of those that it under your label. Take for example, parkour (just bear with me here), most people have no idea what it is, and if they see some idiot kid with no idea what he's doing, calling himself a traceur, or a tricker, or a freerunner, or whatever, people who have just been exposed to parkour/freerunnig/tricking will form their opinion on it based on him, and his actions. Which is bad; just like the emo==cutter; emo==depressed; emo==whatever...

Yeah, but if people can't put a label on you it can be even worse (in my experience). They'll just project anything on you.

God Emos piss me off. All the ones i know, are cutters. But not genuine cutters, oh no, there not game enough for that. They will cut on the flip side of the wrist, near the elbow. Not deep, just enough to graze. Then, they will wear a sweat band, and it will 'accidentally' slip down, so people will give them attention.

gawd I hate emo's, the look like pansies and exclaim how bad their life is whenever they run out of toothpaste, or their school is out of pizza >.< Im sick of them because they are not depressed they just wanna fit in by acting like the victim until they get loads of pity friends.... Emo is a fad and will pass just like parachute pants and roller disco.

P.S. they act pretty queer too :-k I swear one of my friends was emo and acted kinda [bleep]gy so i called him gaymo... then he started wearing heavy jackets so i called him gayskemo... He announced he was gay a month later XD

Where i'm from anyway, emo started out as being someone that listened to music such as funeral for a friend etc. Now it's basically just a derogatory term for someone that is like a wannabe goth. Basically if someone calls themself emo 99% of the time they are attention seeking. Also "emos" use the work random waaay to much.

I love this.

People complaining about emos who [bleep] about life.

irony is as blissfully funny as ignorance.

Ps.

Goth = sexy people who are monsters in bed (i like it rough with whips, chains. ect)

Emos = scared to take off their tight pants and fall in love at first sight so they have an excuse to be sad when they get dumped, "OMG MAN i was in love, you just dont understand!" and they also suck in bed...

Trust me, i've had experience with both. goth sadomasochism is wonderful.

:XD:   .............. :shame: ............

Emo is, as everyone said, a fad that'll phase out soon. Contrary to definition most emo kids listen to neither punk rock nor actually act overly emotional, they just follow the stupid dress code. And I do dislike the Goth clothing much more, and needless to say I'd burn Hot Topic to the ground if I could. I can make room for their music though, I appreciate all kinds of music.

I can't even wear my favorite black jacket in fear of being called emo anymore. I remember wearing full black on my first freshman day and everyone in school referring to me as the emo kid....Brr....

And seriously, the lipstick has to go.

Seriously.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

no seriously you have to be one of them, theres nothing to stick up for! I know stereotypes are wrong but we all know this is how they act no getting around it. this is most likely the only form of prejudice that is true for nearly all of them. They DO act like they have it worse than everyone, they DO whine and complain until they get pity, they DO want people to feel sorry for them.

Of course you joined him later on didn't you?

All emos do is dress a certain way, and listen to certain music, which guess what, metal heads do too, go pick on them. They all don't cut themselves, feel sorry for themselves, nor act depressed. Let me ask you, do you have a large group of emo friends to form your opinions, or just what you read about in teen weekly?

pretty much half my school is full of "emo" people. This is how they act and what they do its not just "dressing a certain way". Emo is a "personality" that each one of them adopts in order to fit in with the rest of them. It's very hypocritical because most of them talk about how they are voicing their individuality and then they just meld with everyone else! they do dress a certain way but they also listen to depressing music, write crappy poems about death, they pretend that everything that happens to them has never happened to anyone else. Their favorite line in my school is "you dont understand" over silly things. im sure most of them arent really doing this because they feel this way its all part of the fad that will pass eventually.

oh and I dont read those cruddy magazines

Telling someone you know very little, even over the internet that, "you must be one" (emo), makes you look like a fool, especially since all he was doing was sticking up for prejudice,

Just like Martin Luther King did, and also Rosa Parks, and you're not going to go around calling black people the N-word because of their skin color are you, unless you're a foolish racist of course.

So whats the point of going around calling people labels like emo, goth ect. There is no point other than to make yourself look like an idiot, you may not like them, they may not like you, but they are people as much as you and me.

Also you yourself said, "stereotypes are wrong", well if they're wrong whats the point in calling someone out like Deloria in the manner of which you did. You jump to conclusions... you don't even know him and just because he sticks up for others, and isn't selfish, you label him as something he defends.

You sit on a forum and complain about other people because they complain to much about life. You complain in such a manner that is of childish nature. Think about that, let it sink in... really.

For proof of childish statements, just go back a page or two, and read some of the idiocy which has spewed from your brain.

This isn't just for you Mithril, its for all the people who [bleep] and moan, and complain about emo's as well as anything else.

You're largely a hypocrite, amongst many.

Complain about the complainers, gripe about the gripers.

You're no better than them than they are of you.

If you don't like people, ignore them... you must be pretty weak to let such childish emos get under your skin mustn't you?

Nothing to stick up for? They're humans, same as you and me. They have rights too. So maybe they're hypocritical. I'd be willing to bet you've been hypocritical before and you'll do it many times more before you die. You go ahead and pretend you're perfect, smart, and better than everyone else. You're worthless in the eyes of the world. You're a number (same as the rest of us) to almost everyone, don't act so high and mighty. Don't think you're just a number? Look at your social security card. That's what the gov't thinks of you. Now I'm wondering if anyone thinks it's worth their time to stick up for you..

I said that because he was defending them in a way that made it sound like he was defending himself, It was funny to me how he could get so touchy on a topic like this really. You all need to relise this is a joke compared to real prejudice, Emo isn't nearly as bad as the N word and even Emo people acknowledge this as their group. There is no anti-emo group because they all know emo's are not a serious part of society no matter how much they bug people we all know that eventually they will be a dying breed. You also made it sound like I was pretty much only spending my time complaining about them all day every day, This is ONE topic about a group of people and I had ONE post to voice my opinion and of course people began seeing this as borderline racism.
