Rand
2 parts to this question. Which would be better for leveling range? would it make much of a difference using one over the other? And which would be better to make with smithing, the knifes or dart tips? 10 tips better then 5 knifes? Or skip both and just stick with arrows? maddudy
knifes are better just because u dont need feathers for it rarely ever check forums.
CampbellMC
Knives are generally known as being better overall, they are easy to make, and give very nice range exp.

Codguy
Overall, knives are better in terms of making. You only make 5 per bar, but with darts is you need feathers and logs too maybe? I haven't made them before. Darts hit lower but faster, knives hit slightly slower and higher. It comes close but knives are the better experience, so I would recommend knives. Plus if you buy the range item, you can easily find knives.
davidium
most ppl prefer to use knives since they are easier to make...darts are okie i guess although a bit more troublesome to make...just use knives. knives and darts are mainly for monsters with a lower def and high hp so that you can kill them quickly and hit fairly accurately. arrows will work better on monsters with more def like dragons...or u could use bolts with anti drag fire shield too maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it
hatebringer
knives for fast xp, and no feathers, although i personally have always preferred arrows to train range, many people tell me knives are the fastest and cheapest way to go. 99 Fletching 99 Attack 99 Constitution 99 Cooking 99 StrengthGamertag: H8tebringer
ikraz66
don't listen to anyone else. Darts are exactly the same speed as knives, and slightly less accurate (the accuracy is so low either way that only the range armor matters). Darts are CHEAPER than knives to make (only 1 feather per dart, and like 7 gp per feather. You get 5 knives per bar but 10 dart tips. Darts are also good fletching exp. Darts may have a slightly lower max hit than knives, but i'm not sure about that. Lastly, darts have a range of exactly 1 less square than knives. I recommend darts if you make yourself and knives if you buy. Proud owner of a Quest cape!
Star_Fox
knives are better overall, period. dragon darts only give slightly less range attack bonus the rune knives, knives are more accurate and used more.
Xeones
Yes, knives give 1 more ranged attack bonus if we're talking about iron. But, I'm going to mine and smith iron bars to make into darts for two reasons: 1. I will get 20k darts instead of 10k knives. 2. It will bring my Fletching from 39 to 51. All in all, if you're going to make them yourself, and want some experience in Fletching and also want double the amount of knives, make darts. If you're rich and want to raise Ranged, buy the knives.
Doomster
Knives: Made using smithing only, 5 per bar, one handed. Darts: Smithing + fletching (& quest required), 10 per bar + feathers, one handed. Bolts: Smithing + fletching (optionally, tip & enchant), 10 per bar, one handed - with crossbow. Arrows: Smith + fletch, 15 per bar, 2 handed (used with best bow). You get 3x as many arrows as knives (per bar), but the smithed knives are ready to go without any more steps. RSBDavid
for every 1k iron bars you get 5k knifes whihc sells for 200k (40 ea) you get 10k darts plus 50k for the 10k feahers. you would need to sell for 25 ea to cover cost of iron bars(200 ea) and feathers for 5 ea.. you can sell for 40 ea.. making 15 profit per dart [software Engineer] - [Ability Bar Suggestion] - [Gaming Enthusiast]
hybrid2hell
In terms of really good range exp, go with red chins But if you only have darts and knives go with knives I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames.
