Here are some random musings for you all to enjoy...

So I recently turned 17 and I can't help but feel like I've practically wasted my entire teenage years. I really dunno what to think. from like 13-15 I was really all doing good in school and really concentrating on my grades and stuff. Then I realized there are much more important things out there than grades and I tried to become more social and stuff. But really, I just don't seem to fit in anywhere. I made some friends and stuff, but what does it really matter? Eventually they will just leave you or impact you in some negative way. But then on the other hand if you devote yourself rigorously to academics, what's that gonna get you? You go on to become some corrupt CEO of a company and [cabbage] on the little guy. I don't wanna be that. So, I decide I'll study just because I like the stuff we do in school, not cause I want to become 'successful'. But what a waste that is too cause then you never really get anywhere. This whole life thing is just so confusing, I guess I just don't really know what is important, or who I am, but I feel very much like something is lacking and that I've missed out on a big chunk of my teenage life. Maybe cause I've never had a girlfriend. But then again thats another thing, I'm not even sure I want a girlfriend, cause then I'd have to be mean to her to keep her liking me apparently. and yeah yeah they say all that stuff about some girls like the nice guys, no you're full of crap. The minute girls who are with nice guys see some 'cool' guy the nice guy is dumped in an instant. So yeah for all of you saying the answer is love or whatever, I can't help but suspect even this is not right. So really I dunno what to think, but I can't help but wishing really bad that I could just go back and do my teenage life over again. Does anyone have any idea why I might feel like this, and how to possibly help at all?

Don't worry so much. Focus on grades. Get into a good college. Just because you're successful doesn't mean you have to be corrupt. Go into medicine or something, help people. Just enjoy life. Be social and all that, and don't worry about it all.

Save the dating for college. Dating in high school is very unstable and mostly pointless. The only people who "marry their high school sweethearts" are incredibly dumb by eliminating their going to a good college just to stay with their "sweetie" or are people who don't even bother going to college. Long distance relationships suck.

Concentrate on your grades and making friends. That is what high school is about.

^^ I don't Really Agree with that to be honest

I am only going to focus on the materlistic things, These things might help but it really comes down to your personality

1) Do you Live in England or American, Or somewhere Else?

2) Get a job, If you don't already have one, Make some new friends at a job, since you've already been "labelled" in school, Its kinda hard to get out of it

3) Having a Girlfriend is good

4) Be more outgoing, Make convo with people etc...

5) Once you have some money coming in get some nice clothes ....i.e Mabye some ralph lauren, If you live in england, Shop at River Island and Also the Officers Club is good.

6) Get a car, start driving, Girls love it

The person who said above about just focus on work etc.....When he looks back on his teenage life (the best time of a persons life really) Hes gonna be like I had no real friends, I had no girlfriends etc.

Going clubbing is fun.....Just meet some new people

I dated in high school. It didn't last long outside of high school. She did not want to continue with college, and I did. 400 miles makes for a bad relationship.

I was trying to save him trouble. (By this sentence, I was referring to the original poster)

And dating =/= friends. I had tons of fun in high school going to concerts, out with friends, etc. But he shouldn't feel absolutely obligated to have a girlfriend just because many other people have them.

He typed it sarcastically.

Furthermore, he could've contributed to the thread more.

Btw, dating (IMO) is better left alone until you're about 20-25.

Dear god, sarcasm on a forums. Alert the internets!

Life is a game that can be played anyway you want. I doesn't matter how you start or end, just as long as you had a heck of a time (And at 17, you got a lot more time).

Take it each day at a time, Sure plan ahead, but don't write a manual to your life. Instead write it as you go.

Anyone of us could die at any given moment. I thought my friend had a long time to live and boom, dead at 16. I still miss the guy.

Yes, well I'm optimistic and believe that I am gonna live to be at least 90. I have a lot more time.

And I'm pessimistic and believe I'll live to the age of at least 70. So there ya go, thinking that you could die tomorrow is valuable time wasted :P .

You could be making cookies with that time. Chocolate chip cookies. Lots of chocolate chip cookies.

I don't know what to say about your identity crisis, as I'm undergoing a minor version of your own right now, but I have some advice on high-school girls.

The best girlfriend is probably a girl-friend (corny...argh...).

You don't necessarily have to be a corrupt CEO, do you? Heck, you can be a good example or something and appear on some magazine like Reader's Digest for being so great.

Hmm...well. It seems like you're lacking love (not the hormone driven romantic love), but the buddy, friend, fellow-human type love. Oh, and you're pessimistic for one thing. Maybe you're lacking good memories? No purpose in life? Just floating out there with nothing ahead of you...kind of riding in the wake of society's expectations?

I personally think you're just floating
