i guess i've always looked at lower lvled people as people younger than me although chances are that they're a lot older than me

Yeah I think this is my case... altought I sometimes like become friend with a lower lvl, I tend to look at higher lvls with more respect.. I normaly dont judge on lvls ,but I do think theres some kind of racism going on

Wait wait wait, some of us (for some reason) dislike lower levels, therefore they're racist? I think you have your words mixed up there. What I think you meant to say is prejudice against lower levels.

yes this is the same as "racism" however in runescape it's easier to see that it's just common sense, people discriminate that the higher level players are better because they ARE actually better.

No, this isn't racism, its discrimination. Racism and what were talking about are two different things ENTIRELY. Racism is when a person is discriminated against for being a certain colour or creed, something that they had no control over. Making fun of some kid because he's a lower level than you IS NOT racism! That's just being a jerk. The only reason some of us dislike lower levels beating us in skilling is because we care, whether the person is higher level than us or not, if we get the item first. We simply vent on the lower levels because we have no legitimate excuse for insulting the higher level person, but in reality, there is no legitimate excuse for insulting the lower level person either. People are competitive, plain and simple.

I think that runescapers are very non-racist in the actually meaning of racist.

You don;t judge someone if their black in runescape, chances are, you didn't even notise, think if someone pm's you, with something like a "hi!" do you go; "damn, this kid is black, i don;t wanna talk to him" no.

as to levels, probally, a level 40 is more likley to call the lvl 15 a noob then the level 130 is. (not all level 40's say this, it's just an exgample).

The discrimination based on level is actually a stereotype based on money and resources, not social orders.

I will give some examples to support my theory, but skip it if you don't like reading a lot.

Imagine the first month of RS2 release.

Player 1 ( lvl 80) and player 2 (lvl 20) are in a bank, buying/selling stuff. Since there was no GE back then, every trade had to be done manually

Player 1 is selling Rune med helm at a price of lets say... 10k.

Player 1: "Selling rune med!!!"

Player 2 comes and trades Player 1, then offers two burnt shrimps and clicks accept. Player 2 declines.

As time goes by, player 2 keeps getting offers that is way too unreal, and he/she starts to call whoever makes a bad offer "noob". The low leveled player get called "noob" but did not know what he/she did wrong, so they screamed "losers" back. There, we just had a conflict between high level and low level.

Another example:

Player 1 just got full rune. He/she is excited! Thus, He/She walks around Varrock and say "look at my brilliant armor!" and attract so much attention, and even some people started to follow Him/Her. As a result, some lower leveled people loses all the attention on them, and even some of their friends started to follow the high level with full rune thus they started to hate the higher leveled player unconciously. They just wanted he/she to disappear so they can get back their attention and friends.

And another example...

Player 1(high lvl): "bank sale!!"

Player 2(low lvl)

Player 1

Player 1: "Any??"

Player 2: "Can i have the rune sword?"

Player 1: "no"

Player 2: "omfg you selfish loser!!!!"

Player 1: "noob!!"

and so on.... imagine that this process occur 10 thousand times every day and increases as more and more people plays runescape. Over time, lets say a year or two, it resulted as a stereotype, or might be a "cold war" between high and low levels.

My point is that the nature of the game does not allow high levels and low levels mix well. Everyone is in a financial crisis, and hardly anyone can ever get enough money. This made us all "poor" and thus the community's moral values decreases. Lower leveled players usually think that higher leveled players are rich and they could spare a few coins, just like other games. However, as no one can ever get enough money, High level players could never give out spare money, thus the lower leveled players labeled them as "selfish losers" and the high level players classify the low level players as "lazy noobs". Makes sense right? As the stereotype grows, the social relationship between high levels and low levels are not "to exist together", but to "competite for resource" and thus the discrimination.

This kind of discrimination has nothing to do with race, I believe. If a black skin colored player is giving you 10 million gold when you were level 70, would you accept it like a normal person, or would you reject it because of racism? I pretty much think everyone will choose to accept the free gold. This discrimination is in fact a monetary problem, not exactly a social problem. The lack of resources and money has caused this problem directly. If trees never die and if all ores instant respawn, would you even care if someone low levelled get more resources than you? If it was me, I won't even blink my eyes at it. Those are my opinions.

Well, there's a whole anti-nonhuman organisation in the game so I assume there IS racism.

Bias towards other players exists also.

Omg, just released HAM is like the pink KKK ...

damn.. your right, with the hoods and everything ;o

prejudice, yes, racism, not quite.

players do tend to be against certain groups of others, such as pures, mods, and high-levels. they're entitled to their own opinions, however misguided and whatnot they may be.

I agree. I am often in that boat. Either you're a "no-lifer" or a n00b or a newb.

Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

Actually, Golden Elites tend to attack even if you dont see them coming, and you rarely do you see stealthed elites before they attack.

The other annoying thing about elites are the hitboxes. You never can get a headshot, you have to shoot them in the back. :(

Anywho, I think that high level players have a right to be offended when some random low level does better than them at a skill. They worked longer on the skill, they have a higher level, so why did this happen?
