Just a theory then (Luck was a bad word)

Featured Replies

There's no such thing as "luck". The outcome of anything which involves "luck" is sheer coincidence.

isnt this kind of like he placebo effect?(sp)

A positive attitude can be a very underestimated quality in good happening to you.

That's a good summary of what I was trying to say, yeah.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

It's the same thing Galileo, Plato, Einstein and Edison had in common.

The thought just suddenly occured to me, I guess great minds think alike.

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.

The only think positive thinking would do is make you work harder towards your goal, it wouldn't 'increase your luck' so to speak.

Well, if you ever come out with a book, citing the stream of consciousness of Kashi, the forum alias of yourself, in which you discuss menial things with little to no factual bases to reference upon, remind me not to buy it.

My theory is disproven, since I thought Bubsa would have something nice to say. :(

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

That looks a lot like the Universal Law of Attraction, from the indian culture, and recently made into the movie "The Secret".

Luck isn't something you can change, its just a word to describe that you did something when the odds were against you. For example, winning the lottery would be 'lucky' because theres a very low chance you could.

Or perhaps finding a $20 on the ground, thats lucky because again its kind of a low chance you can find cash lying on the ground.

The thing with the bills on the ground is that this does happen. People lose bills, others will pick them up. At least i have lost bills a couple of times. (Probably because i don't use a wallet.) I even dropped a 100 Euro bill purposely on the floor once during a psyhosis. Thought this bill was evil. Since that happend on a train station the next person coming around the corner probably felt lucky. Once i saw a guy picking a 10 euro bill up from the ground in a subway station.

My point is that these things can happen - they can happen to YOU.

It isn't impossible, but it doesn't happen every day to you.

Answering your first paragraph; watch "The Secret".

I <3 Gears of War 2.

Add me on Xbox Live and mention you are from Tif :D

If you think that will, or intent or whatever has any bearing on the laws of physics then i'm sorry but you're sorely mistaken. Our own personal wishes are totally contingent to the outcome of a roll of a dice.

But if you're talking about the health benefits that a positive outlook on life can have, then yes, I agree with you, it can help. It's not the cure though. You can't just say to a cancer patient "cheer up!" and suddenly the tumour disappears.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Answering your first paragraph; watch "The Secret".

Then rewatch it.

"If you really want a bike, the miracle of your grandpa getting you a bike might happen! ZOMGZORZ!"

[if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or

by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.]

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

placebo effect?

You guys are [wagon].

Like thinking that you can control your own destiny is any crazier than reincarnation

or the crucifixion story. You just don't want to believe in anything ...

EDIT: I suppose this theory is along the lines of telekinesis, thinking that you can

move the world around you with sheer will, or in this case sheer belief.

EDIT: For the Christians out there, the Bible says a man with a grain of faith can move

mountains. If you take that literally, then my post isn't so insane huh. It's the exact same thing.

(1) Tell us something we don't know.

(2) I can only speak for myself, but it's not the fact that I don't want to believe in something, its the fact that there is no proof, which makes me unable to believe in something. And with your reference to the crucifixion story being in the same barrel as reincarnation, well that's wrong because crucifixion was common day execution back in the Roman time, whilst reincarnation or controlling your own destiny was never in practice.

(3) Yeah so? Show me someone who has moved a mountain or did something supernatural which cannot be explained by science.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

You could say that having the right mindset and determination will improve your chances but there's still the chance of failure. For example if you think positively about a final exam the more likely you are to study better and therefore get a better mark. But if you just think positively without the studying chances are there's no hope for you.

I honestly have no idea what's going on here, but my theory is that if you dance then all your dreams will come true. You have to work at them too, but dancing helps. Try it and find out.

Cowards can't block Warriors.

Placebo pills prove this. Placebo pills are basically sugar pills. I don't know the exact story, but I know that doctors took a handful of ill patients (I think who had cancer) that had agreed to test a new drug.

The doctors told the patients that the new drug could help them recover, when in fact it was only placebo pills. Some, if not all of the patients, were very hopeful in taking the new drug. I'm not sure about the percentage, but I know that some of them recovered only because they thought they were.
