The end of runescape?

Lately Jagex has said that there is a big new years update. This could be a number of things, new races, new armour, new planets even. Like discussed in the grand exchange, we are quite posibly loking at the end of mechanting when the update comes out.

Jagex is taking a lot of sugestions recently. Every update this month but the new quest is a sugestion, they were doing this last month too. I remember seeing these on the forums and I went for them, besides the grand exchange(which was with the update seperating player stock from store stock), I have also noticed Jagex has regestered Mechscape.

With these updates I think Jagex is trying to tear us away from runescape. Think, if they ruin mechanting a majority of the players will be done with runescape. The assist system where you just stand there insted of doing stuff, that is not how most players want it. While the new players will think that Jagex has given us a way of helping, and we just don't want to. So they think the people are rotten and want a new game to play. This leads me to believe that either the big new years update is either Mechscape, or a farwell to Runescape. In the farwell they would most likely do something to put the final nail in runescape's coffin and make us want a new game; and of corse they have one waiting in the wings. Although this is just my thoughts and in NO WAY states if jagex is really planing to do this.

Post your thoughts on this.

Fail.

Merchants are only a small minority of RuneScape's population. The bulk of the players are skiller mains and PKers.

Actually, with all these updates, Jagex is getting bigger and making more money. If the end of Runescape was really here, then why is it RS is not dying. Over 1 million people play RS and yet it is dying according to you...

Also I find it kind of strange how you think Jagex will just abandon RS for a completely new MMO they're working on. They've put so much time into developing RuneScape, and you think they'd just throw it away? Ha! There are companies that run 5+ MMOs.

we are not seeing the end of runescape. We are not going to get a new planet and no merchanting will ot be completely ruined. Maybe opportunities to merchant will go down after ge but nether the less we can still merchant if we want

Sorry, but there's not much here that makes even a tiny bit of sense.

Think, if they ruin mechanting a majority of the players will be done with runescape.

You *severely* overestimate how many players engage in merchanting. I don't think the GE will "ruin" merchanting, but if it did, I'd say 90% of players would consider that a good thing.

This leads me to believe that either the big new years update is either Mechscape, or a farwell to Runescape.

RuneScape is an incredibly valuable asset worth *billions* of dollars. There is absolutely no scenario under which Jagex would just shut it down. They are developing MechScape as an addition to RS, not a replacement.

In the farwell they would most likely do something to put the final nail in runescape's coffin and make us want a new game; and of corse they have one waiting in the wings.

That's not how things work.

Why do you think this? :?: The majority of the people who play RunScape do so to have fun. We do the quests, work on the skills, interact with friends and just generally mess around. Not having a bunch of people hanging around world 2 would have next to no negative effect on any of that. It would help in fact. Why, you may ask. Simple, most of the autoers that clog up parts of the game are controlled by those same people. So, if merchanting is what you think RuneScape is all about, fine, see ya. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. We who play for the love of the game and to have fun, won't even notice. :boohoo:

good, if they are gone then perhaps products people get on their own will go higher again, whips might go back up to 3m+? who knows.

Merchants have absolutely nothing to do with the price of whips.

Items go down in value because more of them come into the game than people who need them, simple as that.

do me a favor and think of a SINGLE reason why Jagex would want to ruin merchanting? why they would want to lose paying customers?

people who disagree constantly blow out the old "man, why does Jagex hate us?" or "why do they put in stupid updates?"

Merchants do lower prices. Otherwise collection would gather with provider. Merchants constantly try to buy low from suppliers and since merchs care more about exact price then the slayers the price slowly goes down even though merchs try to keep price up.

Merchants are middlemen. They cannot create demand or supply for an item.

They have the ability to temporarily influence prices, and they certainly do make it harder for buyers and sellers to get good deals. But they cannot make an entire market go down -- only an imbalance of supply and demand can do that.

Runescape will not end, if it did it would be a huge mistake on Jagex's part financially, they have no reached the potential of this game yet. People can say all they want about this so called "Mechscape" but I don't see it happening.

I don't know what the hate is for the merchants. Do they affect your gameplay? Certainly not. Do they affect my gameplay? Not really. So, why bad mouth a group like merchants if they don't even ruin your experience on RS?
