Nasty Nas at it again, names upcoming album [N-word]...

Featured Replies

...As in the literal N-word, ending with ER.

Nas has stated he's named the album after this to take power away from the word, and to evaluate on it. There's been many people against it, saying Nas will only end up supporting racism.

Here's an article that evaulates a lot:

It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s official ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Nas has titled his forthcoming album ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Å[racist term],̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Im all for free speech but I think this is taking it a little too far. How will he be taking power from the word? It seems like he's giving the word more attention.

This is another example of why I generally despise activism.

My opinion on this is summed up in his own words-

̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅWhat they do is try to hurry up and get you on the phone and try to get you to talk about something you might know about yet. If Cornell West [activist and professor at Princeton University] was making an album called ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâ[bleep],̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ they would know he̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s got something intellectual to say.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I partially agree with Akon and agree with what Rebdragon quoted.

I have no problem with it.

I couldn't care less what he calls his album. I'm far more interested in the music thats on the album than the title of it.

Gotta love South Park.

Look at the rappers and contemporaries who support Nas, then look at the one who doesn't.

Says everything, really.

That's an excellent point. :P

I don't really see what the fuss is about. All those rappers constantly use the word, and now Nas uses it as the title for his album, and suddendly it's a bad thing to do. The word doesn't do anything to me. But maybe that's because I'm not black. But then again, I wouldn't care if somebody called me a cracker either. Weird that n*gger is censored and cracker isn't though. :P

I guess because 1, Cracker is only really offensive in Southern America and possibly South Africa. and 2, it's also the name of a tasty snack.

Neither were the black people of this generation. And Matt, a [racist term] is also a butterfly, and there only few things as beautiful as a butterfly. :P Not to justify anything of course. It isn't a nice word and people shouldn't call other people that way. Maybe I think that it doesn't matter much anymore because we don't get much of it here in Holland.

Yea, a single case. And I'm sure that there are a dozen others. But it's not like black people are the only ones being murdered on a regular basis because of a racial motivation. In this generation.

We're procrastinating here, and I agree it's certainly not only blacks (I never said it wasn't) in this generation, but it would be foolish to discount it as rid off.

Regardless of being right or wrong... his PR folk have done their job. Stirred up trouble thus leading to more album sales. People are so easy to manipulate.... mission accomplished.

Hmm that's up to him but i'll buy his new album for sure anyway, seeing as he is probably the best rapper alive or dead.

It's a horrible word, and I don't think it should be used. What more is there to say?

Honestly, despite Nas being a big case of hit-or-miss (Need we bring up Nastradamus? Or half of I Am... And Street's Disciple? :P ), I agree with this statement ever. Best solo rapper (Best group is the Wu) ever, IMO.

There's a lot more to say. Free speech, taking power from the word, weakening it, etc.

How come they can call there own self nigg*rs but when we say it, it's so wrong and they get so emotional about it? It's like the Negro colleges, if there was a all white college they'd be all ready to calls us racist. IMO there are a lot of stupid black people..

Wow.

Way to prove Nas' point. I don't even have to explain that.

Yeah I would have to agree with you he has been below par a few times but as you say,he is the best solo rapper imo. As for the wu tang clan, probably the best rap group ever :D . Can't wait for their new album either.
