ktmcf121
How many people here went hunting this year? Missouri's firearms deer season opened this weekend, and I was tagged out by 8am on saturday. I saw a total of 14 deer, 3 turkey, and a bobcat before leaving the woods around 10:30am. here's a pic of the 9 pointer I shot at ~150 yards. post pics and stories here! purfishx
We don't have deer season here. I don't even think we have deer. Would be great if we could import some and have it though :D Sigs by: Soa | Gold_Tiger10 | Harrinator1 | Guthix121 | robo | Elmo | Thru | Yaff2 Avatars by: Lit0ua | Unoalexi | Gold Tiger . Errdoth
No deer down here, and I don't think seagulls have an official season...so...err... But, yeah, no deer; and I'm not the biggest gun/hunting fan as it is. Last.fm Signature Overlays
Nom
Heh, I got an offer from my dad's game club to enter a drawing to be picked as a hunter for their grounds. They wanted youth hunters to clear their property of all the deer, there are way too many in Ohio :P . But I had a ton of stuff to do yesterday so I couldn't go down there to enter. Oh well. ktmcf121
I just finished helping my dad gut one about an hour ago. This is the second doe he got this year. yeah these are the first deer i've killed all year, though it's been bow season for a few months already. i only got to go bowhunting once, and didn't see anything. I killed a doe almost before the sun came up all the way, and then that 9 pointer at about 7:45. my dad killed a buck(7pt) and a doe at about 7:30, and our hunting buddy killed a buck(8pt), doe, and button before 7. my cousin killed a button early in the morning sometime(didn't hear his shot), and my uncle killed a button late in the evening. good opening day much? \

What are points? Like weight or something? That refers to the number of branches on the antlers. And a button is one that has only just started to grow them, so it has a stub - a button. indy500fan
The bag limits here are 1 buck 3 does throughout the whole season. Gun season hasn't started yet. Even during gun season though you can't use rifles. Only shotguns and there is a week for muzzle loaders. So yeah, can't shoot anything further away than 40 yards or so. ktmcf121
the bag limit for the county I hunt in is 1 any-deer, and 3 antlerless deer. so you can kill 1 buck and 3 antlerless deer or 4 antlerless deer and still have a legal amount of deer. gun season lasts 9 days and there is an extension in december, as well as a week for muzzle-loaders. any of your firearms deer tags are legal in these extensions, but you can't get any more tags. archery rules get more complex. Necromagus
I'd love to go on an archery hunt sometime... For now I'll just have to settle for some venison jerky bought at the market. I use a Remington 760 rifle, 30-06 caliber, pump action. It's deadly accurate, I've killed many deer with it. For muzzle-load season I've just got a Marlin In-line deal, not sure what model it is, it's a cheapy.

insane
Hunting is something I've always wanted to try but I've never gotten around to it. I might try and get some friends together this winter and do something. I live in Ontario so going up north to do it would be tons of fun!

I have a messed up shoulder and I can still pull back a 60lb bow, I just got the one with the highest let-off I could find. It doesn't take a super high draw weight to kill a deer, just to get a long shot. I personlly won't take a shot over 35-40 yards with my bow. dangeresque
Wow, great opening day \ Although i don't hunt, i would like to sometime, probably not deer though. something smaller like squirrels that are smaller and easier to clean. :
ktmcf121
honestly i think deer are easier to clean than squirrels. maybe it's because they're so big that they don't move around as much, but it's just such a pain to clean squirrels and rabbits by yourself. deer seem to skin a lot easier than squirrels too.... or maybe it's just my imagination. dsavi
My cousin sent me a pic recently of his first pheasant that he headshotted. Otherwise I'm not such a hunter, but of course in Finland, after the shooting, you have to be 18 to buy a gun.

Hunting is primarily a source of entertainment, we don't really need to hunt to survive, we have many ways of keeping ourselves alive. sycosis5
I will eat meat but because I barely eat anything and meat is how I keep somewhat healthy. But hunting is where I draw the line.
