Grand Exchange - Should I sell my stuff?

Hey,

A short question to the upcoming release of the Grand Exchange:

Should I sell my whip and full dharoks?

I'm afraid that there could be a massive price-loss on those items and that I loose lots of money...

Please help me...

Thank you,

Neither the whip nor Dharok are hot-ticket items. They're going down in price every day, to be frank.

If you want to sell them do so. If not hold on to them. Don't let the GE spook you into selling if you don't want to; the last thing we need is some seller being paranoid.

Prices will drop. There is almost no doubt of that.

Not true. When the GE comes out there will no longer be a reason to undercut, because you don't have to spend any of your own time selling stuff. You can just put it up for the highest reasonable price, and if it takes a week to sell, it's a week you spent doing other things.

But if enough people like you get spooked into liquidating your assets, prices on those items WILL drop, not because of the GE, but because you thought they were going to drop.

You're overlooking into this. I don't think the GE will have a massive effect on prices. It will basically just operate on supply and demand.

If the prices are too high, nobody will buy, so this forces the sellers to lower their selling price. If the prices are too low, the new merchanters will quickly buy them up and re-sell for a higher price. This is a nice equilibrium that works well ineconomies in real life, so you need not worry about prices too much.

Whatever you do, don't follow the mob of stupid people.

I wouldn't sell them. Youre bound not to lose much anyway.

They will drop because people will be able to see the current price and will undercut it by an amount of gp, this will continue until it reaches a certain price. It will happen, not everyone will be happy waiting weeks to sell.

You're forgetting that there will also be a ton of buyers watching the prices of items. If people start undercutting each other, "merchants" will immediately swoop in, buy the items, and try to resell for a higher price.

Thats assuming you'll be able to set your own prices.

Best to wait until monday before we assume anything on price changes.

OT: Might as well hold onto your stuff, as even if it does drop, almost everything else will drop, so your selling price will not relativly effect your spending power.

No that won't be enough I don't think, and they'll only be able to make small profits each time so they may not bother.

Trust me, the merchanters will be plenty when GE comes out. They are a persistent bunch of people (they should be after standing on the same spot typing for hours on end).

did anyone read the update?

Later in the month, we bring you the 'Grand Exchange'. This new building will be located in the north-west of Varrock and will house a huge new addition to the game: the ability to offer items to buy and sell across ALL servers and to ALL players! You might, for example, go to the Exchange and put a full Barrows set up for sale - then, playing Skullball in Canifis, you might get a message telling you that they have sold and that you can go to the nearest bank to receive payment! The Grand Exchange will allow you to spend more time on the things you enjoy, providing a less time-consuming alternative to selling your items on the Forums or amongst the crowds of Varrock Marketplace.

i dont see how this will be relevant to price drops. its a copy and paste of a player owned shop.

i think its a great idea, i hate taking time to sell my slayer drops/clue rewards. Thats why i usually sell low and buy high because to me, my time is worth more then trying to hold out for another 100k

now i can allegedly throw it into the GE and keep trainng slayer =D>

Why are you all so sure that you can leave items on the GE when you are not online?

Just a thought.

I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete.
So, what is 1.111... equal to?

10/9.

Please don't continue.

November/December 2002 comes to mind, with people thinking party hats and crackers will drop again and prices falling faster than a chunk of rune ore from the Baxtorian Falls. Imagine what they felt on Christmas day that time. :P

In the long term, slight changes are forseen. However in the short term, I recommend selling now. A lot of people have been stocking up on their items since they are just curious to try out the great exchange, prices in the short run could have dramatic changes but these will eventually stop in the long run, and the price for EVERYTHING will be more stable than it use to be.

How dire the effect is entirely depends on the popularity of GE and the popularity of GE depends on it's structure which we will not know until a few days

76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007

379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007

It won't affect the prices (besides eliminating middlemen/merchanters), but people think prices will drop, so, because of the mob-effect, prices will drop. Sad, uh?
