A "Laizer Faire" economy?

Recommended Posts

When the Grand Exchange first came out, i spent like an hour or so just merchanting there. After selling a bunch of useless items and stocking up on useful things (cosmic runes, gold bars, etc.) i was amazed to see the prices of many objects different then that of their actual costs.

Nature runes are 310gp max, lobsters are around 230gp max (forgest actual number) and my friend told me yew longs also changed which ruins alching for 99 mage in p2p.

With Jagex controlling the prices, they control the economy. For anyone who knows French, they pretty much just spat on the saying "Laizer Faire". For anyone who doesn't know French, it means leaving the economy alone, like relaxing and watching it go by itself, not having the government control it.

Why does Jagex do this? Sure, it gets rid of alot of scams and stuff, but it also kills the prices on many things.

I was just wondering, what some people think about Jagex's attitude towards and economy. Do you think they should leave it alone or take control of it?

Mon ami, c'est "laissez-faire". Quel a tu parlais Fran̮̤̉̉ais?

In truth, laissez-faire is a devil-may-care attitude towards it; and I don't think that Jagex isn't sitting on their hands without giving a care about the marketplace. But I also don't think they're controlling the market either.

First off, i don't know French, just that saying from History class.

And second, when you control the prices (i.e. not allowing items to be bought/sold higher/lower then your prices) you control the economy. If jagex wanted to (they wouldn't, but they have the power to) they could make everything 1 gp. They would never do this, but they have the power to change the economy.

The biggest impact will come when new items are released from summoning.

I highly doubt that JAGex will let us determine our own prices at first.

How can setting hard +/-5% price ranges on every item not be "controlling the market"?

This, if anything is actually a state-driven economy. Prices are fixed in order to keep them within a tight range, and to make sure no one is exploited. People are only allowed to sell a certain amount of items at a time.

I wouldn't call it a socialist economy (the RS economy and the real world economy aren't even on the same planet, quite frankly), but it is certainly not a laissez-faire economy.

Prices still can shift and the price range will shift as well. They just set the prices that we'll start with, but eventually the prices are in our hands.

This update doesn't affect the economy... nobody is forcing you to use the GE

Many RS kids seem to ignore that fact.

I want jagex to put resource dungeons and dungeoneering skill doors to dungeoneering floors so I can dungeon and get dungeoneering xp while I dg so I don't have to dg to get dg exp, but I can dg while I dg :)?

They are doing this out of good... finaly ignoring what the money tells them.

First they killed staking, which FOR SHURE they knew they would loze big bucks on.

Now they kill merchanting... they are trying to turn rs back into what is was several years ago.

Even though I merchant quite a bit I support them doing this

Probably because it's silly. There's not much point in having a discussion board if every time someone raises a valid complaint about something, they get a response of "nobody is forcing you to use it".

Merchanting is not dead. What is dead is what I term "scam merchanting". ie. when someone puposely persuades an unexperianced seller to sell their items at an unrealistically low price so that they can make a massive profit. The main effect that GE will have on merchanting is that profit margins will be tighter, but a SKILLED merchanter (and those prepared to gamble - as in real life) will still be able to make money.

Nah, they didn't kill merchanting if you know how to merchant with the GE. :-w

I love this update.... so far, I can't see into the future but so far I love it.

Yes, Jagex controls the prices but I think it's too early to say that it is good or bad.

I love laser fairs

I think that Jagex is happy with the amount of money in circulation, and is trying to remove all methods of money creation. (creation, not earning).

I wanted to make the laser fair joke! I had it pre-written and everything!

I doubt this will affect the economy much. I've been trying to sell items for hours at minimum price (mage and range pots, 4 dose) and have no sales at all, over all servers (members)

Lassiez Faire. Je souhaite que les gens qui parle ÃÆÃâÃâà franÃÆÃâÃâçais le parlerait ou le tape juste?

Anyways, Jagex is not hands off. Look at Duel Arena.

your french is actually worse then the posters before you. you ment to say:

"Laisser faire. Je souhaite que les gens, qui parlent le fran̮̤̉̉ais, le parlent ou l'̮̩̉̉crivent correctement?"

One thing that I dont like about the GE, it wont let you see if there is actually someone trying to sell that item you're buying. concerning the price's, I dont belive it will end well for some items and ppl will just revert to forum trading. GE will become a hub of raw materials.

RuneScape HD in 2560x1024!

I know the answer and, because I cannot convey screaming feverishly on forums without looking odd or getting banned, just imagine it as such.
