Zombie Plans-Revised

Ok, so I google-earthed the power plant, and labeled it for easier viewing. And guys, this is a biomass plant, powered by woodchips. The woodchips will rot after maybe 6 months max, meaning no more fuel from them. So we wouldn't have energy for the entire zombie apocalypse. But, we would still have 400 thousand gallons of fuel for energy, which would last a pretty damn long time.

 

Another nice thing about this place is there's a observation level on the smoke stack from the furnace, which is about 12 stories up, which has a view of the entire area, since it towers above the rest of the plant. Sniper or guard position for sure.

 

And finally, there are three doors that I know of, one is a giant steel garage thing, and the others are steel as well, in case any zombies breached the perimeter. Inside the building it is pretty spacious except in the entrance room, there is a control room, then all the machinery and the reactor. There is a huge amount of empty space inside the rooms where the reactor is, and there would be tons of space for people

EDIT: For reference, the walled in area is about 750 feet by 1200 feet.

With the woodchips we could just tore them better than they seem to have, we could also wall in a large area to plant trees in, which we will have to strictly monitor, so we don't run out of trees. It wouldn't produce much power once the initial supply runs out, but it will still be enough, and we can also use other methods of power.

It's hard to see how much wood there is there from a 2d google earth picture, but all the woodchips wouldn't fit in the main building even if every room was filled to the ceilings. It would actually be in our best interests to use the woodchips as the would usually and power the city for as long as we could. It would allow more people in the city to survive, but more importantly for us, the woodchips rotting lets off a gas that is pretty bad for you.

 

 

 

Also, the woodchips are stored fine for their purposes, since they go through them all before they rot.

That looks like a very suitable home base.

 

Can you get a set of coordinates for it, so I can store them for use in the event of a zombie apocalypse?

 

 

 

I'm thinking that if we use the wood chips at a normal rate, they should mostly be used up after the six months, leaving a lot of space for crops or trees. That 400,000 gallons of fuel will last for an incredibly long time for a group of maybe 50-100 people?

 

 

 

By what you have said from the interior, there is plenty of space to store food and supplies, and that large expanse of grass (And later, the space where the wood chips were) could be useful for growing food (NOTE: Buy seed packets, the kinds that are easily stored) and I'm sure that those walls would be sufficient, if they are 10-12 feet high. Besides, we can always build on top of them, if the need be.

 

As longs as both gates are near each other, it shouldn't be too difficult to defend, and if they are breached, previously mentioned observation tower can be used as a sniper nest to pick off zombies within the grounds, until we can retake it.

 

 

 

How far away from the main city is it?

 

 

 

One problem I can think of is water.... is it possible to dig an efficient well there?

 

 

 

 

 

All in all, I'd give it a 9/10 if digging a well or two was viable, and a 6.5/10 otherwise.

I'd imagine a well would be viable, it's about a mile from a lake and not on much higher ground. To be honest though, I'm not 100% sure the walls are concrete. I know they're there, but they might just be chainlink. I haven't been there for like 4 years so I don't remember. But hey, even if it's chainlink, we could literally pile sawchips behind the fence to reinforce it, and the building itself would be pretty much impenetrable.

Barring taking heavy machinery and burying them, not really. But, the gas wouldn't kill us, it just might cause some issues. But still it would be best to get rid of.

 

 

 

I don't remember if I said this before, the place is about a mile from the biggest part of the city. It's really close to the suburbs. That's the only bad part about it, really.

For an improvised weapon, which would be better: a shovel, a brick, a wooden bat, or a 4 inch knife?

A trash can has only a single exit and zero maneuverability within. Plus, you're wide open to an aerial attack and with no place to move around...

Depends on the situation. For close range, the brick or knife, the bat would be good in most situations until it broke, and the shovel would be good if you had room to maneuver. The shovel would be more likely to break than a bat, I think, seeing as the handle is very thin compared to the bat. Unless it's made out of metal. The brick would be best if there was only 1 zombie, since it could do the most damage, but you would need to be pretty close. If there were a few zombies you'd be screwed.

 

 

 

The knife would be the one I'd pick.

If its a small amount of zombies either the shovel or bat, shovel is probably better for fatal wounds, but either can probably hit hard enough to knock a zombie over to buy some time. A brick would be okay in a 1 on 1 situation and a sturdy knife would be good to issue a few fatal wounds.

 

 

 

Overall, I would say the use of a shovel as a spear/zombie tipper makes it the most useful.

Ideally, you should have a crowbar in your house, as that is one of the best melee weapons to use, improvised or not.

 

 

 

A knife would suck, unless you can score an eye socket hit with every jab.
