Naruto: What's the Appeal?

Featured Replies

What is the appeal of this kiddy Anime show called Naruto? I see teenagers walking around with those stupid headbands on all the time. They look like total dunderheads! This show isn't even remotely entertaining. Can anyone tell me what's so great about this show? I certainly can't figure it out. I watched 3 minutes of an episode once then turned it off. It was BORING.

Maybe u should devote little more time than 3 minutes, to something, before you can give any opinion about it?

What the appeal is you ask. The appeal is NINJAS!! Ninjas are cool. 8-)

Reality is hundreds of times more beautiful and more interesting than delusions. Fairy tales just tend to be easier to follow than the wonderful intricacies of life.

I watched Naruto right up to the fillers. I realised that I'd wasted about 70 hours of my life doing it. I swear that some episodes actually took the storyline backwards. I guess it's just there to watch if you have no other hobbies at all.

Some characters were cool, ie. Kakashi and Jiraiya but most seriously irritated me. The fight scenes also got boring for me, pretty much straight away. The characters didn't really improve fighting wise in a way that I thought was interesting either. Learn a new move then use it until it becomes boring. Learn slight alteration of that move. Repeat.

Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!

I watched it to some 50 episode or something. Have to agree it got boring at some points, good thing i was watching them as mpegs and not on tv, so I could skip the endless "what happened in the last episode".

to be honest, you really have no room to speak if you've only seen 3 minutes of it.

i've read the manga, and watch the anime..and i'll agree, the humour and such is quite silly, perhaps even childlike at times..but t'is all good to me,i find it to be quite amusing..the fights and all are quite well made and entertaining really. (exceptions aside,of course..naruto has the curse of having alot of different teams, some who provide better quality than others, which is the main problem with this show..the consistency,or rather..lack of).

I watch the Japanese version with subtitles, which in my opinion..is far superior to the subbed ones..and you may not believe so at first, but the storyline about several things is quite interesting really, and it goes deeper you might believe at first look.

Maybe your just like me- you hate most anime?

But the kids who walk around pretending they're naruto with headbands are the trekkie equivilents.

Looking back I don't see it as that good, but when you're really into it you can't stop. The fighting is good. Sure, they all play exactly the same way

1. Throw kunais

2. Damn, he dodged them, he must be strong

3. Kage Bunshin

4. Damn, I got owned

5. What do I do now?

6. Ingenious scheme

7. Victory

8. Smoke clears...What?!

9. Back to life

10. Now what will I do?

11. Summon demon fox chakra and/or flashback leading to incredible strength

12. Victory! (most of the time)

The fights can be really good though; examples: Lee Gaara, Sasuke Gaara, Sasuke Naruto, Zabuza vs. everyone, anything with Neji, Chouji vs. Sound ninja...etc, etc. They are really fun to watch, and usually well drawn. But mostly, it's the universe. The atmosphere is great, and you can actually care about the characters, so you want to find out what happens to them. That's mainly why people watch any TV show/movie series.

Oh yea, forgot to mention: There's more than a few "WOW!" moments. Be it genuinely surprising story events, or some sweet combat.

Hehe... You watched DBZ, and you think Naruto is boring?

Anyways, Naruto is awesome. I'd waste a lot of my time by basically reposting what people above me have said, but I think you can look back.

I was seriously about to make this topic myself. I saw an episode at my friends' house, and it was basically an hour of a kid yelling,"WHERE'S SAKI!?!?!!?~!?" for about 45 minutes, and a stupid monologue the other 15.

The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.

Heh, exactly!

Yeah, so has langzor already knows, I hate Naruto with a burning passion. It's simply not good. It's boring. It's annoying. It's not funny when it tries to be. The fight scenes are dull. It's boring and just plain bad anime.

Majority of animes tend to have that formula done over and over and over

It's better than that man-girl in your sig, anyways. Hah! :P

Okay, for the record I'm considering a boy, but that's not the point. Naruto sucks. And you know it! :P

Get into Bleach, Death Note, Blood+, and FMA for some quality anime.

I've already watched most of them.

Not my fault you can't broaden your horizon to better quality animes. Especially better then Bleach. I mean, come on... It's almost as bad as Inuyasha. :P

Naruto is blegh.

Yes, I haven't really actually taken the time to sit down and watch it. However the art style and art direction alone of it makes me want to puke.

Likewise I'm not really a fan of bleach for the same reason.

I'm still new to the world of anime, but I've enjoyed Death note and Blood + so far. Getting into samuri champloo as well -- kind of a fun series.

One scene (and note only one scene) had me in hysterics for a five minutes after the closing credits. Gaara vs the Bone dude in the retrieve Sasuke mission, when he is drunk and uses the drunken monkey style. :D

Rock Lee and his sensei always got me laughing out loud. When go   and bling on teeths and everyone else is like -_-'

I've tried watching it a couple times. Its really, really boring.

It is today what DBZ was back in '99-2000. Except DBZ was cool.

Metal fans, check out my band!

Hah...I haven't really gotten to know much of Naruto, but I'm pretty sure that here in America the beer they drink in the show is replaced with milk...:| :P

And langzor, I've broadened my horizons to enough. And Inuyasha is classified by itself. [cabbage]. They say the word "demon" roughly every four sentences from the episodes I've seen. I could barely sit through it...It was either watch that until Bleach came on or watch Who's The Boss...I made the radical decision. :(

I liked Naruto but now I just find it uber boring. Not because of the plot or anything but of the sucky animation and how long it takes for a fight to start/end.

I only read the manga now, the fillers for both Naruto and Bleach are killing me and I can't take it.

Watch better animes like Gundam :D or Hellsing  and/or any samurai anime (Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo etc. )

:P At least we agree on some things. Oh, and Purfish, Hellsing rocks. Less so, Gundam. :?
