A thought of the Barbarian kind...

Featured Replies

Ok, I'm currently Barrowing, and I had a thought about the use of Barbarian potions.

What we do know:

Caviar comes from Leaping Sturgeons, requiring 70 fishing to catch.

A full potion must be divided into 2 to mix

Each dose of a Barbarian potion with Caviar added heals 6

Here is another thought to add on.

A Barbarian potion(as of 2 doses) will heal 12. Two of them will heal 24 altogether, incrementally however. It will take two spaces.

The potions effects (4) would take one space normally, leaving another for perhaps food. In lower-risk situations, you'd probably use Monkfish, which we know heals just 16. Just say you're using 1 Prayer Potion and a Monkfish, and lets say a single dose of a PP restores 25. You'll get 100 Prayer points and 16hp. Look at what happens if you use Barbarian Potions. You still get 100 Prayer points, but instead of 16hp, you get 24.

Another good use for the Caviar mixing would be Zamorak potions. According to the TipIt herby guide, they take off about 10% of your current hp. Lets say you're using Zamorak pots, and you have 80hp. Normally, you'd be losing the 8hp from a first dose, but if you had it mixed with Caviar, you'd lose only 2 hp. I know this wasn't a good example as Zammy brews are used when praying, but why not?

You have to catch Leaping Sturgeon for Caviar, as they are the only fish that, when gutted, give the ingredient.

A fault with these potions is that you should not replace them instead of normal potions in high-risk situations, i.e. Bosses, but these potions would make good use in Barrows, killing monsters that you preferably use combat style pots against and similar.

As a reader/responder to this thought, what are your thoughts about this?

Note: I find any condescending posts about my playing abilities an offence, so please keep criticism aimed at the subject, not the player.

Looks good but what about the cost to make the potions?

I personally feel that barbarian potions should always be brought along in times when the number of doses in a pot is not very important.

Using caviar on zammy brew is really pointless anyway, you are just going to regenerate back 1hp/min and minus 1 boosted stat/min and boosted stats always way more than hp deducted. Most zammy brews are used to save space as replacement for pure sets since they take less space and are of course cheaper.

However, mixed super energies could really be useful while training agility or just abyss rcing. For the latter, use mixed energies to restore energy and hp from abyss monsters quickly makes faster bank runs when you don't need to withdraw food. \'

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

Well, if you are making them, I'm quite certain that cost isn't going to be a problem.

Currently will be using my Oni Tsurugi account to attempt to get 99 on all free skills without spending any gp, just for the sake of doing so.

I used barb potions for a while, and then I realized how much a hassle getting caviar was.

I just stick with super restores and brews nowadays, since they are so cheap anyway.

Barbarian potions are excellent for specific uses. They are not a general replacement for other potions, though.

They are especially valuable for high-level monsters where you make short trips and don't need 4 doses of many potions. For example, I use them extensively when fighting miths.

If you are fishing just for the caviar, it can seem slow. If you enjoy barb fishing anyway, then it's pretty easy to stockpile a bunch of them; I've got 800 in my bank right now. :)

EDIT: Don't forget that there's a deposit box in the BA anteroom.

I thought about using these with prayer potions. But the idea of 2 doses is a turn off.

darn fish eggs are taking up all the room for potion in the vial :(

I thought the same though.. the healing is nice... :wall:

the simple technique is to not gut the sturgeon until you have a full inventory of sturgeon. and use the roe for bait while dropping your fish offcuts then picking up and gutting the 1's that arent sturgeon and repeating. barb fishing is pretty cool so it's not that hard a task if you like doing it. i use the shortcut to grand tree.

i think it would be good if it gave an extra dose per pot you made with caviar, would be extra incentive for the higher potions and amounts you may have. and i think roe should be used for more of the potions rather than most of them requiring caviar. but it's a useful update and better to have than not. i havent used them with potions that i have huge numbers of but mostly with the ones that i have few of or a medium amount of and i still like to have sets of 4 doses. allowing to combine mixes into 4 doses would make sense i'd think.

Barrow Drops: 1 Ahrim's Staff

The problem is that the healing 12 effect is not one single click, it's two. Whereas the 16 is a single click, in situations like barrows, when the brothers can sometimes get lucky and hit a couple of 20s in a row (even with 84 defence I find that torag and verac (I don't pray on verac) hit a couple of 20s on me rather consistently) having to mess around with small healing clicks is rather dangerous. As for barrows, I use no prayer pot doses as I bank after each run, house tele makes this a fast method. I think in such circumstances the miniscule healing effect of many clicks is a rather big turn off.

The main drawback IMO is the fact that you have to heal and restore (whatever it is) at the same time. Sometimes you just need food and sometimes you need prayer (attack, whatever.)

They are best when fighting things where you constantly take damage -- mostly high level stuff like miths, brutal greens and so forth.

I don't use them at Barrows, because it's more efficient to use Sara Brews and super restores.

4-dose mixes would be great but... 133 prayer points and 24 healing in one spot? A bit overpowered IMO.

Good idea if you're training slayer. Not good for pking, boss monsters. It's okay for agility, but the prayer bonuses are usually unnecessary...
