What's the first barrows set to get?

I have combat 101, pretty decent stats and slayer 70. With the Exchange I somehow found myself able to afford any of the Barrows sets if I wanted. Total budget is 8M.

I would like to pick up a good stream of income from drops of any kind (I have good enough farming and herblore to handle most seeds and potions, so I think I could use just about any drop) and I wonder if a barrows set or two might be cost-effective for faster and more profitable combat training?

I currently have the cheaper dragon items and rune for fighting, mystic for magic and black dhide for range. Are barrows sets really worth the up front price and maintenance? What can I do with them that I really couldn't without them?

I have not done any Barrows or God Wars expeditions yet. I hear that those are profitable if done right, but they look equipment intensive. Or are there older ways to make more gold that I've overlooked.

Guthans? Veracs? Which is the most broadly useful for good old fighting training and profitable drops?

Got a bid in at 7M even right now. I really don't want to pay the equivalant of eBay 'Buy it now', because that's my 'buy 64 battlestaffs' every day working capital.

It sounds strange to say, but I get 147k profit every day just from making and hi alching 64 air battlestaffs. I really want to get more than that killin' thangs and raising slayer to that exalted level 85.

Gotta love those 64 batlestaves a day :-)

Guthans is the most expensive of the barrow sets...and IMHO for good reason. It is the most versatile set, and with the healing effect, generally is the best by far

I am yet to come across anyone in game that has had guthans, and been unhappy with it. the same can not be said for all the other barrows sets.

And surely you don't need 7m to work with those 64 staves a day?

Go for guthans, however, if you can manage without food, get torags. Its MUCH cheaper, and, repair costs are really a joke anymore. Max of 300k or so to repair (dont quote me) and it needs repair every 16 hours or so, which, Iv never gotten below 25 percent. If you wanna stay at your slayer tasks, get guthans, if you think you can manage with food and such, get torags.

Guthans by far.

The repair costs are dirt cheap with your smithing level.

At the armor stand in any Players house. I don't believe the prices change with Bob in lumby :? .

And yes if you are looking to get 85 slayer then buy guthans it will be the best options for you.

Apparently, my signature was to big.

You should buy guthans for slayer, get slayer to 85 and then good money with whips, I personally like more veracs since I'm a kq'er and a dk'er, but that's me ^^ (I have all sets cept dharok, I dun like it lol)

Not quite; just 448k. But the top of the guthans set price band on the exchange is 7.8 today, which would leave me with very little working capital at all until the set gains me better or faster drops.

I ought to sit on the exchange for about 20 minutes figuring out the broken part costs and just buy 4 of them and repair them myself. With 73 smith it might be cheaper than buying new.

Got the Guthan's set today off the Exchange.

I took one slayer mission with it, remorselessly slaughtering hundreds of fire giants without needing any food. This is like the atomic bomb for training fighting. I was already close, but still picked up levels in Defense, Hit Points, Slayer, Prayer and overall Combat in one session. Yow!

The drops as per my usual luck were pretty lousy; only about 25k worth in total. I expect it'll be the slayer monsters I kill once I buff up some more that'll be my payback for the investment.

Best way to train slayer is to wear:

Black Mask (nothing else comes close)

Fury/Glory

Fire Cape/Trimmed Acheivement Cape/Achievement Cape

Barrows Gloves/Dragon Gloves/Rune Gloves

Guthans Body

Guthans Skirt

Ring of Wealth/Ring of Life

Dragon Boots/Rune Boots

Whip/Drag Scimmy (dependant on if you want to train Attack or Def/Strength

Rune Defender/Dragonfire Shield

I personally have in my inven, Slayer Gem, Shilo Gloves, 2 Super Str, 2 Super Atk, Guthans Spear and Guthans Helm.

When you get to half life equip the Guthans pieces until you heal. It works out for me that when I repair the body and skirt (25%) the helm and spear are just 75%. Reduces costs a little bit more, for me it's about 140k per recharge.
