What does it mean to be a top/best RS player?

Accomplishment doesn't come in a day or 2, any kind of challenge, whether it was first to kill a new monsters, first to get the highest xp or lvl, first to get the new item, or what not, tend to leave an impression on people on RS.

The comment I like to make is simply refer to the part of top players, most people view them and perceived them differently. I guess more so on the point where those players did the "impossibles" (or near impossible) as others "perceived"

In truth, not only you need to spend the time to reach the top, but you also have to spend the time to "stay" at top.

Time Washes away everything, as people quit RS, and new people join, names will always be remembered and forgotened when time passes and new skills arises, these manage to stay on top of the list are also (in my own opinion) "survivors", they stick to the game and manage to stay on the top. But this isn't saying that the people who quits the game are quitters, it just means that they have move on to some other things in their life, and its a perfect sense whenther they wish to remain as a top RS players or not is really their decision. Thinking back some point in their life, they will remember (so does others) that part of the time what they were once able to achieve.

If you achieve something rare, like Slayerbelle getting the first Untrimmed Slayercape. Slayerbelle > Zezima in my eyes. He has all 99s, who cares, she has the very first Untrimmed Slayercape.

"Who cares" ?!! 2,777 total is an amazing achievement. Most people who criticise Zezima are jealous.

Nope, instead, he'll take advantage of all the empty places that are normally really crowded, and then when the initial surge of summoners has subsided, he'll go and get it with half of the crowds. It's a good idea, but most of us (including me) are too impatient to do it.

This may sound snobby or something but I honestly don't think anybody who has a high rank can be considered a good player. I really don't think you can determine a good player AT ALL in RS.

Lets be honest, RS is fun, but it requires no skill. Its just drilling and repetition. If you ever have seen an interview with someone who's like number one or number two, they're like "Ya, I live with my parents and play 10 hours a day.". Now, I have no problem if you living with your parents but lets be honest (once again), if many of us played 10 hours a day we could be amazing too.

This game is drilling, repetition, and knowing where to train. None of these take genius, skill, or talent to do so I think beyond the already known high scores there is not really anything you can do to judge somebody on how good they are at this game.

If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.

Very, very, very few people remember the first person to achieve a milestone. For example, how many people know who the first person to 99 hits was? Or 99 magic? Not many, because it's not really all that important.

Oh, and I've never heard of Slayerbelle. Didn't even know someone had an untrimmed slayer cape (Not that I really care anyway).

slayerbelle/villandra/villaninja is the best player in my opionion. First player to 99 untrimmed slayer, 2277 cb, and lowest cb with 85 slayer respectively is very impressive in my eyes

Actually, that was only n0valyfe lol, thats how he got 2178 total in 3 years. it took zezima around 5 years. Zezima and pretty much all the others started in 2001/2002

Even if it's a dumb story, telling it changes other people just the slightest little bit, just as living the story changes me. An infinitesimal change. And that infinitesimal change ripples outward-ever smaller but everlasting. I will get forgotten, but the stories will last. And so we all matter-maybe less than a lot, but always more than none.

Bini already said it but I will repeat. Syzygy is a real legend (He is often happy to chat too). There are no real skills to runescape but there are smarter ways to do things. It takes a lot of mental planning to get 99 in any skill never mind several.

On the other hand is it really an accomplishment to be able to say "Look at how many hours I have spent clicking on a pixellated character". A real achievement would be to spend half the hours spent playing the game doing charity work or similar.

Do you mean slayerbelle, villandra, and villaninja are one and the same person?

That's quite impressive yet. But what does it actually show? That you have a lot of time and patience/persistence. Skill? Hardly, but hey, everyone knows that.

I don't anything in runescape is going to be that respectable. Those with 99s in a skill just spent a lot of time clicking for that skill. Those with high quest points just spent a lot of time clicking. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the clicking and the achievements, so to speak, I just don't think it is that big of a deal.

I don't believe in looking up to others because of any simple accomplishement, but Zezima (no matter how often he is called a nerd) is the first ever player to have maxed out all present skills in the game at the time he did it.

Slayerbelle, the first player to achieve 99 Slayer as her very first 99 in any skill, that also deserves admiration, and those who have/had RS membership are aware of how difficult that must have been.

I agree with you. It must have been really hard to get Slayer as your first 99!

It depends on what you percieve as an achievement.

If you only count in the amount of work, zezima "owns" Slayerbelle bigtime.

True but if you look at the achievement.. Zezima isn't the only one with all 99s, Slayerbelle is the first and only one with Untrimmed Slayercape..

No one has ever achieved 1B overall yet  .

You can't compare those two achievements, as they are completely different.

What it means that you are top of the rs comminity?

Well as the 47th f2p-er I have to say this:

I actually waisted more then 3000 hours on this game (rough estimation, might be on the low side), let's say if i spended all that time on working a rl job. i'd make 4-5 euro an hour, which makes 12000 - 15000 euro. Otherwise I could have spended that time on studying, which means by the time I invested in this, at the end it would have ment that I would be a brilliant student, i would not had to attend re-examinations during summer and perhaps led a happier life.

Or I could have spent all this time on learning to play guitar better, or learning to sing better. i could had learn other music instruments. This would lead to better musical results and maybe the part of being famous.

So while I was spending 3 years of my life on runescape, I could have been rich, lectured better or be a pop god. :uhh: DANG! :XD:

FU runescape <.< :XD:

(for the time i spend i take in accoutn that on average i spended 1 hour for every 30k xp, since i have more than 90m xp, i calculated 3000 hours. Since not all skill reach the 30k xp/h limit + i done quests and such, i was not walking all the time, by ingame time is supposed to be higher...)

Sadly Mauranius I feel you are way under in the calculation. Range,rc,prayer, mining and fishing are either just at 35k xp per hour or much less and that is only achieved at high levels.

I too have approx 90 mill xp but fully intend to retire in 6 months and your maths has reminded me why.

Zezima was 115 combat when rs2 came out and already had 99 smithing, he was actually the 4th to 99 smithing, he was on the highscores pretty much from 2002 onwards.

dude don't be ridiculous, how can anyone can get 99 slayer in 1 week. do the calculations...oh wait i'll do them for you in case your math isn't up to scratch: okie ASSUMING he plays 24/7 with NO breaks, NO eating, NO sleeping, NO WHATEVER, he would have 7 X 24 = 168 hours of time to train slayer from lvl 1 to lvl 99. lvl 99 is approximately 13M exp (ROUNDED DOWN ALREADY) and thus when u take 13M divided by 168 = 77380.95 exp per hour. in one hour there are 3600 seconds. lets assume that he deals a hit every 2 seconds which is quite reasonable since we are not including travelling time to slayer masters and lunar spells were NOT out yet. so 77380.95 / 1800 = 42.99 hits each time. wow tell me again how he hits 42 every time with whip or whatever weapon he used at that time. even if u are using a cannon u have to wait for the cannon to turn one bloody round before it can fire again unless u are at daggs/kalphites. to sum up the gist of what i have just said, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get 99 slayer in a week. (note that the hypothetical time i have given him to complete it in a week includes 24/7 non-stop playing)

in my opinion n0valyfe owns zezima for 2 reasons: firstly, he easily beat zezima. yes zezima whines about how n0va had it better with all the "click X" options with the intro of RS2 but isn't zezima entitled to that too? and when n0va just started playing zezima was already much quite high up in the scores. initially n0va wasn't even considered to be in the race, it was just zezima and some other name i forgot. some lady name i think but that is not important. n0va caught up with zezima and surpassed him with amazing speed. Secondly and MORE importantly, n0valyfe knew when to quit. he quit once he achieved his goal and won zezima. he knew he had completed his task and so went on to greater things in real life. but sadly for zezima he keeps playing for fear that one day his top spot will be taken over by someone. i have a feeling (which i know may be wrong) that he is playing out of fear that he will lose that security of being THE no. 1 in RS. but if u ask me, i'll say he has already lost it to n0valyfe.

maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cooking

life may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?

Everyones' opinions and analysis is an IMPORTANT contribution to this thread since thats the main theme of this topic (to contribute your opinions, and let others knows about it), so lets not start another senseless argument here by making negative comments about other peoples's post.
