I'm starting soccer

good luck, i've been playing football for over 5 years and a ball isnt very important, if you are planning to join a club/school team, they'll probably already have balls, however if you want your own personal ball, decide on what level you play at, if you are playing at junior level, any ball will do but if you are at a higher level, try getting a fifa approved ball

what you need to do is invest in a good pair of boots, i got lotto zhero leggendas and their pretty good, but i have found out that i need a new pair of boots every season. Shin pads are important as well cause if u dont wear em, the ref probably wont let you play

Adidas made the last world cup ball so you could give that a try or go for a Mitre ball (although they might be UK only). Not sure about the price on either.

Regardless the ball isn't that important. What's important is that you practice and practice until you learn the basics. Set up some cones and dribble around them to practice dribbling, try hitting targets for passing/shooting - it's not too difficult to learn how to play it just needs practice. The best practice is probably just to get a group of friends together and play for fun and get some confidence.

In my opinion, classes don't benefit you that much until you play at a decent level where you need to work on the more tactical side of the game but for the time being just have fun with it and your ability will gradually improve.

Trust me my childhood was spent trying to become a great footballer, ultimately I failed but I wasn't too bad.

A balls a ball really. Just get something that has some sort of official approval, FIFA being best.

The main brands are Nike, Adidas and probaly puma or umbro.

You will also need a pair of boots, nothing fancy

If you decide to play goalkeeper then goaly gloves are highly recommended.

But soccer....... pshhhhhh..... Try rugby man..... The game of iron miners, farmers...... REAL MEN *roars and headbutts monitor off desk* (joke)

good luck with it anyway. I used to play it but i quit it for rugby.

I don't want a noob ball, I want one that can be ok even when I'm better at it.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh for a few minutes. I guess that'd be something funny to hear from the mouth of your own kid.

Anyways, check out this site if you're in the US: http://www.soccershopusa.com/update/index.html (click on Ball)

You can get even Adidas soccerballs for anything between $14 and $100, have fun finding a nice one 8-)

If you're in Europe try this site. Pretty much all of those fall within your price range.

First, I want a a decent soccer ball.

Retail store.

The important thing is actually getting good at it, not the ball.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

When all of you are done criticizing my pickiness for soccer balls, can you start giving me some tips?

Since you live in Italy you can probaly get a decent ball in your local sports store. Just go in and check all Nike or Adidas balls and check if they have FIFA approvals.

But seriously though, A ball will make no difference to your game aslong as its pumped up right. Just go out and do some drills with a properly pumped ball.

What i would recommend is just kicking a ball against a wall to improve your first touch and passing without controlling the ball. You can also practice things like dribbling in your own home.

Just go through the basics at home and then join a team, you will advance much faster if your on a team than on your own.

Also a half decent pair of football boots will make much more of a difference to your game than a ball will. Boots allow you to sprint quciker, turn quicker and stop quicker, it is also very hard to slip in them if its muddy.

If your in a attacking position i would recommend a light boot with blade type studs.

If your in a defending postion i would recommend a boot with alot of support with vertical cylinder type studs.

Firstly the ball isn't that important, You may want cool points etc, but do you really think everyone is going to admire you for having a silver ball when your playing in a team lol?

Anyway with that over...

Skill and balance is an important part of football, Get some cones and weave your way through those

I used to play soccer from the time I was four years old, until I was eleven. I traded soccer for softball, but I miss playing alot. Good luck at your tryouts! :D

Well I've been playing soccer my whole life

My dad used to coach, so we have always had a bag of soccer balls that the league gave us, they're not super high quality balls, but it's what we play with so they're okay. Not to mention that I can't even count how many balls I've lost on rooves, in trees (yes in trees.) etc.

Basically, just join a team and start playing. Just play house league or something, where there will be guys with all different skill levels.

I play outdoor soccer in the summer, and I play indoor in the fall/winter (indoor is really fun, but a bit harder to get used to)

If I didn't play outdoor when it was cold I would've never played outdoor at all - Scotland's cold. Indoor football is for women, there's nothing better than playing on a soaking boggy pitch in the rain or even in the snow - it really separates the men from the boys. It doesn't even matter if it's cold because once you've been playing for 5 minutes you won't even feel the cold.

I've been playing soccer for my whole life and really the ball doesn't matter.

You should just join a soccer team next fall (or if one is playing now, do it now). If you want to be serious about it get a nice pair of cleats. They really help a lot. Other than that practice makes perfect :D

Lol, I live in Canada so don't tell me I don't know cold. Or that I've never played on a field that was more water than grass.

Still, the league that I play in doesn't run in the winter or I'd play outdoor then.

The ball isn't going to make you suck less.
