Yes, another Halo game. Keeping the series alive is the latest game in the Halo series, Halo Wars. Halo Wars will be a RTS game, allowing you to control fleets of tanks and other vehicles and entire regiments of marines against Covenant forces. It takes place before the first Halo game, back near the first contact on Harvest. It is still unknown whether you can play as the Covenant at all, but it hasn;t been denied either.

There is currently no set release date, and it will be only for the Xbox 360.

I'm excited :D I especially hope you can play as the Covenant, I always did prefer them over the humans.

But is the Halo series overstretched with this? Is it just too much? Or could be it be just a great add-on to a great series?

I think they're overstretching themselves a bit.

Right now Halo is a very successful franchise for the Xbox console and they should focus on keeping it that way.

However, the RTS market is even more competitive. You already have strategy game franchises such as Age of Empires, Starcraft, Warcraft, Warhammer, Command and Conquer and Total War Series, all are big contenders in this market share already.

Halo Wars I will probably check out, but I am not expecting much really.

Halo was originally going to be an RTS, but this will be made by ES now instead of just Bungie.

It's annoying they only made this for the Xbox360 and not the PC. I've never played an RTS on a console, but I'm betting the game will be over simplified and not that hard to beat.

It was a great idea, but it's not going to be made to what it could have been - the Halo version of an AoE for the PC.

Not being allowed to play as the covenant would really prove how simple this game will be.

Name ONE descent RTS on console.

Command and conquer Playstation 1.

That it...? if so point proven.

BFME II Xbox 360, Command and conquer 3 Xbox 360, Age of empires 2 Ps2.

There was loads.

Anyways this is about halo wars, I really hope this gets released on pc but if it does its gonna be hard to compete against the likes of Dawn of War Soulstorm, Command and Conquer 3: Kanes wrath ect, that already have a big PC based community. If the audience don't get to play from the covenants point of view, then I think the game will fail, only attracting the fanboys and not the RTS fans. Also, with the multiplayer (If there is one) Humans vs Humans would make pretty much no sense =/

Unfortunatly at this point, it's only for the 360. But they said since it is only for Xbox, they wouldn't have to make it an over-simplified version of a pc RTS, and can make it conform to a console. I don't know if that makes any difference, though.

Part of it just sounds like they're trying to milk the name for all it's worth.

I'll hold off and see what it is like though.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Since the main game is finished now, and the franchise is so successful, that's what companies do when a product brings them money. :x

Limp, assuming your point is "RTS's don't work on consoles", there have been plenty of console RTS ports. Granted, they're better played on the PC, but really, what isn't? The 360 has seen two good RTS's already, C&C:Tiberium Wars (pretty successful) and LOTR:Battle for Middle-Earth II (somewhat successful). I think the company that made AoE is innovative enough for a console exclusive RTS to be a blockbuster, or at the very least marginally decent.

That being said, I don't have many hopes for Halo Wars, because it's pretty dumbed down. Three factions are the minimum nowadays, one is unacceptable (no Covenant???). The battle system seems extremely simplified, not even the rock-paper-scissors mechanics of most games, but just "build-bigger-units-and-hurl-at-enemy" principles. I didn't even see any base-building in the trailer or resource gathering, just making the units and some flashy combat. At least it looks pretty.

It's a radical idea though, take a shoot-em-up game and make a strategy title out of it. But being a Halo fan, I prefer them as FPS's, what the hell. Probably explains why I think the coolest part of Halo Wars is how the Warthogs can run over troops. That's insane.

PS: Speaking of FPS into RTS, the C&C series will see another FPS title. From the RTS Tiberium Wars, there'll be a shooter called Tiberium. Pretty cool.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
