People are afraid that they may never be able to be alive again, when that is true, but we don't know what happens when we die. Really, we don't. I don't fear death, but I still wouldn't like to die. You understand what you think is true (It's what I think as well, I'm not religious), but that doesn't mean you have any idea what it's going to be like. People are scared of the unknown in general, and in that sense there's nothing scarier. Well, biologically speaking, I find it likely that it would be odd for there to be an after life, but I don't really hold any strong beliefs about anything supernatural. I don't "understand what I think is true", I simply withdraw from holding any belief about what it's going to be like after I die. Being in the current physical state that I am now, I find such thoughts meaningless, and could care less about them. To quote Lao Tzu: Student: Master, what is it like after death? I'm not holding any belief about what's gonna happen when I die, but my point is people get scared because you can't imagine nothingness, like nobody can imagine infinity. Solidus_77 Posted January 8, 2008 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Ok, now although there is no way that I am afraid of heights, I literally get sweaty palms at the thought of falling off of an inclined polished surface without being attached (example: the outside surface of a building). I guess what I hate is the feeling of helplessly falling. On any other surface I am completely fearless of the height but that thought just freaks me out. I just think you play the whole thing off a little nonchalantly. I'm not scared of death and I don't spend any amount of time thinking about it, but when it comes up I can empathise with the people who are scared. meol Posted January 8, 2008 Share Posted January 8, 2008 The thing I fear most? Yeah.. Death. I mostly about what's beyond it, even if it's nothing, as I'd be afraid of not existing any more. I just get this horrible feeling if I start thinking about it or if something reminds me about it, so I simply try to block any thoughts about it now. Other than that, I have a little fear to dogs popping out of fences when I'm walking down the street. Even so, I'm quite calm and pleased when it comes to meeting a new dog. I'm not afraid of heights, but when I go on the ferris wheel with friends I'm always afraid of not being able to help them if they slipped or something. I'm afraid of my girlfriend loving another guy more than me. I'm afraid of thinking bad things because it always seems like people can read my mind. I'm afraid of (yes this sounds weird) the direction right, like turning to the right around a corner and being stabbed or something. not afraid of left though :-k . It is to the extent that if there is a pigeon on the pavement, I will cross the road so that I don't have to walk past it. It really is a pain in the arse. :(\ Preach it, brother!
