@zaaps: true, however, for most walls to be good, they have to have 3 things;

1) High defensive stats- cress has high def/spec def with med hp, wheras blissey has high spec def/hp with low (base10) def.

2) Access to stalling moves- cress has t'wave, toxic (iirc), and moonlight, wheras blissey has softboiled and serene grace/bolt-beam abuse

3) Versatility- cress has levitate, meaning it takes 0damage off spikes, as well as the ever-popular earthquake. Blissey has the ability to pass wishes to teammates.

When it comes right down to it, they're both seemingly even except for the versatility. Any blissey carrying wish is either dead by pursuit before the switch, or dead once the switch-in gets killed by the incoming attack. As an overall wall, blissey is a 1 way mirror, with a see-through physical defense and a shiny/reflective special defense. Cress has both sides covered, and in a game where you now have to prepare for both sides, I'd rather not die to mach punch...

1) 252hp/252def with def boosting nature Blissey can actually tank almost every unboosted non-SE physical hit well. It has crap defense, but it just has so much hp that it doesn't matter AS much. Of course, Chansey is even better at doing this. With 252 hp/252def w/ def boosting nature (one of the most common spreads on Blissey), there's no pursuit that immediately threatens it. Remember that Blissey can opt to heal itself with Wish first before passing another to a teammate. Choice Band Adamant Tyranitar will only do 66% max if it nails Blissey on the switch with Pursuit (factoring in STAB as well). That means it would do about 33% if Blissey stays in. If I were in this situation, I would Toxic Tyranitar and kill it, since unless I switch it can't do more than Wish/Protect will heal me for.

2) Blissey/Chansey usually run Natural Cure to make them immune to status, but remember that both blobs also get thunder wave and toxic. The blobs have an even better stall movepool than Cresselia because they can run the Wish/Protect combo (whereas Wish/Protect Cresselia doesn't really get much done, although it is viable to some degree) , use Armoatheapy, and set up Stealth Rock. The only thing Cresselia has going for it as far as movepool is that it can do Psycho Shift + Burn Orb to Burn opponents, whereas Blissey can't burn physical attackers. Still though, you might not like a burnt Cresselia, as compared to using Leftovers, that's about a 18% net loss of HP per turn. With no reliable recovery, that's a risky road to travel.

3) As far as abilities are concerned, they are pretty evenly matched. Cresselia is immune from Ground attacks/spikes/toxic spikes, whereas Blissey is more or less immune to status altogether (it also get Aromatheapy just in case it needs to win a stall war while statused) with Natural Cure. I've never seen a Blissey using Serene Grace.

I'd say that Cresselia is still a very good wall, but the fact that its only advantages against the blobs are all niche uses really kills it.

1) Even though Blissey has crappy Defence stat (lol, 10), her HP is so freaking huge it can tank some hits with 252/252 impish/any other defence boosting nature. Her SpA tankign rights are beyond amazing.

2)Blissey also gets toxic and T-Wave, and as you said a better healing move in the form of softboiled and wish. And do not forget Aromatherapy/Heal Bell, which cures your entire team of status (and is often my doom since i play a lot with paralisis). Plus they get Natural cure, a boon for a defensive wall.

3) Agreed, even though versitality isn't only that.

Blissey can survive a pursuit if she's at full health. If Tyra comes in on the Wish, she can protect and change next turn. Really, the only advantage Cresselia has over Blissey is her higher Def stat and Levitate, while Blissey has aromatherapy and, most importantly, reliable recovery.

Honestly I'd argue that the game is physically oriented BECAUSE of Blissey/Chansey. Psycho Shock is only worthwhile to hit Blissey and Chansey.

And Demoli, do you want a bump/rate on your RMT that you posted a few days ago? I don't normally post on any because I feel like I change people's teams to fit my play-style, but I do have slight nitpicks such as your Jirachi set/Rapid Spin on Dory.

Sure, there you go.

[hide]Team Overview

450.gif598.gif381.gif645.gif530.gif385.gif

In Depth

450.gif

Eadgar (Hippowdon) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Stream

EVs: 188 HP / 160 Atk / 160 Def

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Earthquake

- Stealth Rock

- Ice Fang

- Slack Off

Hippowdon is my usual lead, he sets up rocks and sandstorm and can take hits quite well. Slack Off is recovery of course, EQ is for stab and Ice Fang is for those pesky dragons. I've tinkered with tyranitar for a while, but i ended choosing Hippo due to better defences and more durability.

385.gif

Primadonna (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Serene Grace

EVs: 200 HP / 56 Def / 252 SDef

Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

- Thunder Wave

- Wish

- Trick

- Iron Head

Rachi is my backup lead. Trick cripples walls such as Blissey, Burungero and Skarmory who think they can come in scoff free. It also gives the middle finger to Evolution stone users. Thunder Wave is probably my team's biggest asset, lowering speeds dramaticly, essential for Latios or Landlos coming in later on and set up without much need for speed. Iron Head is here simply for lack of better support option. Wish grants my entire team some sort of recovery. Apart from these roles, Primadonna is also my team's special wall, in particular ice moves, my bane of existence.

598.gif

Beyblade (Nattorei) (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Iron Barbs

EVs: 100 HP / 252 Def / 156 SDef

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Power Whip

- Spikes

- Thunder Wave

- Leech Seed

Quite honestly my biggest player, Nattorei is quite simply amazing. I use it more as a leech seed annoyer and paralisis spreader rather than Spiker. Fire types tend to switch in a lot, and thanks to that i prefer to Thunder wave more often than leech seed and spikes. Only after i feel relatively safe do I start stacking them needles. Power Whip is there to counter even more water types and to break some balloons.

530.gif

Legretta (Doryuuzu) (F) @ Chople Berry

Trait: Sand Throw

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Rapid Spin

- Earthquake

- Frustration

- Swords Dance

I've tried to stay away from Dory, i really did. I've tried Garchomp, Heatran, Flygon, a toxic Spikes variation of Nidoking (which worked ok), hell even a Rhyperior was tested (with also surprising results). But in the end, i needed a rapid spinner and another Physical threat in my team. Dory was the obvious solution. Rapid Spin to send hazards away, since they hurt 4/6 pokes in my team. Swords Dance on the switch and wreck avoc from there. EQ is stab and Frustration is for neutral coverage. Now, i run a chople berry just in case a mach puncher appears, but since i haven't seen any recently, I've been thinking on running a different item, I'd like some feedback on this please.

645.gif

John Cleese (Randorosu) (M) @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Sand Power

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)

- Hidden Power [ice]

- Earthquake

- U-turn

- Stone Edge

Since the beggining I've liked this guy, I used to run a Double Dance set with him, to great success, but i've found the scarf set more and more appealing overtime. EQ tears appart everything, U-Turn scouts and doesn't let Celebi loose. Stone Edge is for coverage and HP Ice is for Gliscor, who is increasingly popular. He is very frail however, so i need t rely on wish passing to keep him aline for extended periods.

381.gif

MegaMan (Latios) (M) @ Choice Specs

Trait: Levitate

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Psycho Shock

- Hidden Power [Fire]

- Draco Meteor

- Surf

Specs Latios is just too strong. No wonder he's called the blue bomber! DM kills everything not named blissey, tyranitar and Steel types (and even then you need some bulky ones). I tend to be conservative with this guy when i see a Tyranitar on the oposing team, and if any other pursuiter is at bay i use HP fire to scout. Surf is there for some very restricted situations, like Heatran and other Steels. I used to run Tbolt instead, btu skarmory is becoming scarcer the day it seems. Psycho Shock is to beat Blissey/Chancey, even though the last one needs to be tricked out of it's Stone.

Battle Strategy

Really simple in fact. Check the oponent's team and decide optimal lead. Anything weak to ground or that Hippo can take and i lead with him, otherwise Rachi gets loose. On very rare ocasions, i lead with Latios to net a free kill (abcence of Steels/blissey) or with Landlos (scouting). From there on, i try to set up rocks and spread paralisis in the best way possible. After enough is spread, time to bring the big guns. Latios forces a lot of switches racking up entry damage. Landlos demolishes whatever comes in if predicted correctly, and works wonders as a cleaner. Dory clears the field and is a strong Set-upper and Rachi likes to flinch a lot. Nattorei also forces switches, and with some prediction i can score free Leech Seeds. Very rarely i tend to use Natto as a pseudo shield due to iron barbs, but it's really situational. (rxamples include Flinchachi).

[/hide]

Please keep in minds i'm still finding a good guy on my last spot (that's dory). I've been tinkering with Breloom and Terakion, and changing Landlos to a dual dancer and letting my scarfer be Chomp, but i never seem to test them ok. When i needed terakion for the victory, i'm using chomp and same the other way around, frustrating.....

Well dang! I've been focusing on my Scarf Chomp+ SD Landlos and it works awesomely!

Alright, I posted a suggestion. It's a more conventional Rotom-W set, so it's predictable in that sense, but I believe it helps your team as the only thing you really miss out on are some resistances Steel gives you and Wish support. Up to you though as your team is obviously working out for you lol.

Round 3 of bans has started and the discussion thread is open, man from recent battles i hope Doryuzzu goes to ubers on this one, he is just too strong. Landlos won't be banned for sure, the glitch did have a huge difference in it's power. Before i could OHKO nattorei at +2 with SS boosted EQ, now it always survives, seeding me and limiting my sweep.

On Latios, i really don't know. Everyone seems to have a pursuit user so it's really hard to play him around, and if the other team has a tyranitar, yeah, your latios ain't going no where fast.

Doryuzzu on the other hand, requires a lot of thinking ahead, and when the other team has other various threats you just can't keep up.

Also, i really feel what 4-moveslot syndrome is now: My jirachi would be way better with an extra moveslot: Wish, t-wave, Iron head and trick are good, but I'd love an extra slot for Hidden power water or Fire Blast.

Well tbh I've been running a rain team with a cb dugtrio and it works great. It's only real purpose is to trap and kill other weather abuses, but it is much worth the teamslot. Stone edge 1hkos abomasnow, eq does like 85% to max/max ttar, but most of them run special defense anyway, and ofc eq kills ninetales. The only real weather poke that it has trouble killing is hippowdon, but any member of my team can kill that rofl.

Still, nattorei can block most of the rain abusers, has his fire weakness halved and can easily beat Dugtrio with a power whip unless it has taken a lot of punishment.

nattorei can't really block sun, it does a decent job defending against rain but im playing rain anyway so it doesn't make a difference, dory 1 hit kos nattorei with +2 eq, rando too, and it really just gets outstalled in hail.

The use of dugtrio isn't to stop my opponent's weather abusers, its to kill the weather summoner so I have my weather up 100% of the time

I see, point taken, but just one little remark:

At least with my nattorei, Doryuuzu and Rando, both LO'd, adamant and at+2, NEVER KO natorei from full health, i can always survive to either Power Whip the Balloon(Doryuuzu) or leech seed to limit their sweep (Rando, but rando is easy to handle).

Well, my team is still at the same spot, i can't find matches in smogon and in PO i'm trying an antimetagame poke, Dusclops with skill swap. Oh man, doryuuzu, reuniclus and Gliscor love soooooo much loosing their abilities

Lately I've actually had to make a changed to a mixed Randorosu. I kinda grew sick of Nattorei and Skarm, so I roasted both of them. Still doing SD/Earthquake/HP Fire/U-turn

And a primer:

Just realised how amazing Dig Empoleon is.

Think about it.

Empoleon's only problem is that it can't hit steel types for super effective damage. Sure, Hydro Pump does more than enough damage BUT it has shaky accuracy. 80% is not acceptable, resulting in a miss every couple of turns (some which could be crucial). You look through his moveset and see Surf (HMs are for [bleep]s), Ice Beam, Grass Knot, Flash Cannon (All walled by Steel types), Drill Peck and Aqua Jet (Still walled). Then you see Dig. Sweet jesus. Dig is a faultless move, making Empoleon the greatest sweeper/staller in the metagame.

Why Dig over Earthquake, you ask? Well for one, the power difference is negligible. 20 BP is nothing. It's the same deal with Draco Meteor versus Outrage. Why do people use Outrage over Draco Meteor even though it lacks 20BP? Because nobody gives a [cabbage]. And with the other benefits Dig brings to the table, you can afford the drop. Secondly, Earthquake doesn't allow you to escape dungeons. Dig does and in a fashionable way. That should be reason enough for you to use Dig > Anything else.

If you're still not convinced, then consider this you narrow minded fools. Dig not only heavily cripples any steel types looking to ruin your fun, but when coupled with Leftovers allows you to regain 1/8 of your health everytime you dig. That's right, I'm not making this [cabbage] up. 1/8 is almost double the amount Leftovers gives you in one turn but instead gives it to you in two invulnerable turns, effectively allowing you to PP stall like a [bleep]. Why invulnerable, you ponder? Well, when Empoleon digs, the Opponent will switch. No one that is even slightly competent at competitive battling keeps their pokemon in on a 80BP Ground move off a tremendous 86 (!) Atk. That can almost 2HKO Heatran with no investment. Again, I'm not making this up. And if they switch a flying/levitating pokemon in? No worries, just DIG again, regaining your health over the meagre amount of 8 turns and laughing like a boss in their faces. And if they stay in to attack you? No worries! Empoleon's gargantuan defences (84/88/101) means [cabbage] will get real, absorbing even banded Close Combats and banded Lightning Strikes (if my calculations are correct; and they often are) while regenerating health at tremendous pace.

Now I know, you're thinking "BUT DIG ONLY HAZ 16PP!!". Here's the second part of my proposition; use multiple Empoleons. Just forget to tick Species Clause when challenging someone and voila! It's foolproof. 6 x Empoleons equals 96 PP, which more than ample to stall out your opponent's best moves. This is even before we factor in DIVE, resulting in 192 turns of frustration for your opponent. You can even wait a whole minute (or two) before making a move to increase the annoyance factor, resulting in easy wins and even easier satisfaction. I can attest to this, as my team (titled [bleep] Global Warming) has peaked higher than #1 on the prestigious PokemonBattleCentre server on Pokemon Online while also narrowly beating my cousin Brad's team. And Brad is good. Very, very good.

So why has no one discovered DigPoleon (I have coined this, credit goes to me if you use it) in previous gens? Why has Empoleon always been labelled as mediocre and not worthy of OU status? Well, ladies and gentlemen, the reason is that the people who have discovered DigPoleon have been too scared to unleash it on the unsuspecting competitive battling scene. It would topple the metagame, turn the tiers upside down and set fire to all the cartridges around the world. This combination is so [bleep]ing scary that you don't even need any EV or IV investment on Empoleon for it to work. Sassy nature is required though, because everyone knows you need sass and only sass to succeed in Pokemon. I am delivering this news now so some of you can enjoy winning with ease before it gets swiftly banned in the next round of Suspect Voting. But if you play Ubers, you can enjoy DigPoleon forever. Enjoy stalling out Zekroms and Mewtwos while Pimpoleon stands there digging and being a boss, just remember who brought you that immense feeling of joy and self satisfaction.

In conclusion, here is the set in all of its pimpin' glory:

In honour of your pimpoleon, I've also recently tested, to great success, an awesome shedinja set:

S0u1E4t3r, Eater of Souls

Killer nature

252Doom, 252 Fear, 4 Chance to run

Life Orb

-Double Edge

-Death Gambit

-Sandstorm

-Harden

EV's are so your oponent can die of fear instantly by seeing this set! Double edge demolishes any kind of wall with Life orb helping it out, as if it needed! Death Gambit makes your oponent play russian roulet... with a sniper! Sandstorm traps your enemy into a cage of fear who can't be broken! After the deed is done, harden is for the afterparty with other female shedinjas.

You're better at this

Well I am currently trying out a set of (no sarcasm):

Denchura/Galvantula

- Thunder

- Bug Buzz

- Energy Ball

- Hidden Power Ice

Life Orb

4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid

I also tried a Shubarugo yesterday (bug/steel thing) and it is amazing. All you need is Megahorn and Pursuit, with a Choice Band and this thing is a wrecking ball. It can 2HKO Scizor (a resisted hit on a fairly bulky Poke) and can survive an HP Fire from LO Starmie. Thing is a monster.

  • 3 weeks later...

I surprised this hasn't been bumped. White and Black were released yesterday. I bought it and have a 3 man team right now. The water starter, herdier, and the thunder horse, using patrat as an HM slave right now. If you couldn't tell I forgot some of their names. 2 Gym badges so far.

I like what they've done with the music, like the rival battle theme.

I like that they do all the tutorials at the beginning now.

I like that they finally added an intro to the game.

I dislike that now you have three rivals, it makes rival battles more frequent and seem more tedious.

I dislike the first gym, what they did is they make you fight against the leader that has your starter's weakness.

Those are my thoughts on it so far.

This is what the monkey you get in the dreamyard is for.

Currently using Dewott, Solosis, Sigilyph, Lilligant, Darumaka, and Sandile. Wish the sigilyph had magic guard, thing is a beast and I think it'll only lose out to Reuni late in the game. Lilligant is because I want to try quiver/petal dance with own tempo. Solosis has proven disappointing so far.

I got it on DS, so it does come on DS. I don't even think the 3DS is out yet. I like going into the games blind, having the make a team from scratch. From what I can tell they're basically creating a new world. No familiar faces in the grass, grass that spawns double battles now, new route 1. Etc.

That's not just what i've read, it's things i've seen ingame. Even on GSC and RSE you saw the occasional gen I pokemon. I'm 2 gyms in this game and seen none.

I know it's a DS game, but i, for reasons beyond my current understanding (most likely peer pressure from my basic school years), i bought a psp instead, so for me to play Pokemon Black (reshiram <3) i'll have to wait for the 3DS.

And don't worry, you will really not see a single oldy until the after game.

Thank you, I kind of figured that. I'm just saying in the other games you ran across a pidgey every once in awhile, even if you're not in Kanto. And I bought white.

Current status of my DS:

The top screen is cracked and does not work, as well as more or less detached from the bottom half of the game boy. The stylus is gone and the A-button is also missing.

...

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait a little longer to play this on the DS. Lol. Emulator was a lot of fun though.

So, i need a replacement for that DD Onono. While it sometimes does okay (and some times he's a friggin beast, it OHKOs Gliscor at +1 with rivalry), he just isn't up to par. Currently trying mence, but it doesn't shine either. I need a set up sweeper fort hat role.

Any suggestions? (just one nitpick please, don't suggest vulcarona, It'd require a spinner, and my team doesn't have that much problems with hazards yet.)

Try Voltolos (special) or Terakion (physical).

Nasty Plot/Thunderbolt/HP Ice/Focus Blast

Swords Dance/Rock Polish/Close Combat/Stone Edge

If you wanted something that increases speed, try Gyarados or Tyranitar? Double boosting Terakion is already pretty effective and very adaptable.

Mmm, i might try that Terakion. I've tried it before in a double screens team and found it quite good, even without SS support for the boosted SpD.

About Gyarados, i'm having trouble coming up with the fourth slot in my set, (DD, Waterfall, Earthquake so far), Nattorei is a big problem to gyarados though, and apart from bounce it really has nothing on it i guess :/.

Taunt.

Most Nattorei will probably want to stealth rock/thunder wave/set up something on Gyarados, since they expect to tank it well. Power Whip does something like 30% without intimidate, so you won't get in too many dances, but assuming you already have one under your belt, you could grab another and use Earthquake.
