June 20, 200818 yr ^Yeah, pretty weird. Also pretty weird that you've come to like their other songs. :P The song that got me into NW was The Riddler. Yeah I dunno how exactly...I was listening to Oceanborn and hating Tarja's voice at first. But then, I got a crush randomly on this song, I thought it was awesome (I still think so, btw). And the rest is history. :P Then...for Sonata Arctica, the song that made me really love them was The Power of One. For Thin Lizzy, it was Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend. Nocturnal Rites: Shadowland Ensiferum: Guardians of Fate Windir: Arntor, ein Windir Moonsorrow: Jäästä syntynyt / Varjojen virta Turisas: The Messenger Within Temptation: Never-ending story Sentenced: Killing me, killing you Pantera: Cemetery Gates Blind Guardian: Nightfall Deep Purple: Soldier of Fortune That's all I can think of atm, but I think it's enough ;p "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."

June 21, 200818 yr Oh wow. Amazing how sometimes listening to such a mundane song can lead into other things. :P Yeah, at the time I thought it was incredible. I mean, it was still better than the day to day stuff I heard on the radio, but before that I was more into punk (not the good punk either lol).
June 21, 200818 yr Two songs, which I stumbled across separately got me into Dream Theater, currently my favorite band (so much so that sometimes I don't listen to anyone else for days or weeks): Only a Matter of Time and Fatal Tragedy. Only a Matter of Time is one of their oldest songs, but I love it. As for Fatal Tragedy, Petrucci's solo in that song is the reason I listen to Dream Theater. It got me hooked. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.
June 21, 200818 yr Kashmir: Led Zeppelin. Not the first song I heard by them, but it's definitely what got me into them and eventually making them my favorite band.
June 21, 200818 yr The Curse (album) -> Got me into Atreyu, and metalcore in general. So Cold -> Breaking Benjamin I Shot the Sheriff -> Eric Clapton Tonightless -> Eighteen Visions Californication -> RHCP Away from the Sun -> 3 Doors Down Down with the Sickness -> Disturbed Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (album) -> Avenged Sevenfold Girl's Not Grey -> AFI Freebird -> Skynyrd You Give Love a Bad Name -> Bon Jovi Left Behind -> Slipknot There are many more, but these are just some that come to mind at the moment.
June 21, 200818 yr i finally get to remember what got me into metal, it was SOAD's BYOB . Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.
June 23, 200818 yr @AdioLovesSquall: I thought you didn't like Opeth? :o "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
June 23, 200818 yr @AdioLovesSquall: I thought you didn't like Opeth? :o You don't get it. .....no, you don't get it. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
June 23, 200818 yr Duality and Before I Forget by Slipknot were the two songs that got me into the 'heavier' genre's of music. Way back before that I was a punk kinda guy...*shivers* But anyway here are some of mine... Root of all Evil -> Dream Theater (Favorite band and Root of all Evil was the first song I heard from them. My guitar teacher taught me how to play it when the Octavarium album came out.) Ghost of Perdition -> Opeth Sea of Lies -> Symphony X Center of the Universe -> Kamelot Planet Hell -> Nightwish (Fally Massacre vid ftw lol) Bloodmeat -> Protest the Hero Selkies: The Endless Obsession -> Between the Buried and Me All That Remains -> 3 Normal -> Porcupine Tree Day 18: Realization -> Ayreon Progenies of the Great Apocalypse -> Dimmu Borgir Alone -> Green Carnation Laid to Rest -> Lamb of God Acid Rain -> Liquid Tension Expiriment Andromeda -> Marco Sfogli Tom Sawyer -> Rush Anybody Listening? -> Queensryche From Where the Dark is Born -> Serenity B.Y.O.B -> System of a Down Parabola -> Tool What have you Done -> Within Temptation And a bunch more but you get it.
June 23, 200818 yr When I was younger my dad would play Thin Lizzy in the car non-stop, so I guess that's what got me into classic rock earlier on. Queen was the biggest push into the classic rock genre for me I guess. Bohemian Rhapsody was the ultimate to me back in middle school, when I'd just started getting into music seriously. As to which song got me into my favorite band, Yes' Roundabout introduced me to their music, the rest is history. : "El que no arriesga no gana"
June 24, 200818 yr Down With the Sickness -> Disturbed Knights of Cydonia -> Muse Cowboys From Hell -> Pantera Empty Walls -> Serj Tankian Moose and Nail -> Otep Bleeding Mascara -> Atreyu Diamonds and Rust -> Judas Priest Over the Hills and Far Away -> Gary Moore Disciple -> Slayer The Perfect Drug -> Nine Inch Nails Leeches -> In Flames Last Man Standing -> Hammerfall Smile in Your Sleep -> Silverstein Closer -> Lacuna Coil Angel of Death -> Slayer That's enough for now. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men

June 25, 200818 yr @AdioLovesSquall: I thought you didn't like Opeth? :o I don't, and I apologise to say that I am not Geoffrey or Thomas. :-( Oh. Anyway, nice sig, clearly a labour of love. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
June 26, 200818 yr David Gray's song Babylon. It's very easy to listen to, just like the rest of that CD, White Ladder. 'Course I have an odd taste in music, and definately different than most high school listen-to-whatever-is-on-the-radio tools
June 26, 200818 yr Probably: Wish You Were Here to Pink Floyd Change of Seasons to Dream Theater Iron Maiden to Iron Maiden (whoa...) Probably Body Breakdown to Dragonforce (not a favorite, but it's a good song nonetheless. Beats Through the...) Don't remember the song, but a Guitar World interview got me into Steve Morse I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
