Actually, that's a half-truth, the first Blind Guardian song I heard (Majesty) got me into the genre. That was the one that made me truly, truly love it, though.

And Alica Keys her song Falling got me into the pants of a nice Swedish girl.

Yeah, I know, embarrassing to think that -- but it's true.

Pfft, my interest in metal began with Within Temptation, Ice Queen to be precise. My interest in the female voice began with a rap song called Prince Igor (Don't know the artist off the top of my head), which featured samples of the Russian opera of the same name.

Rebellion in Dreamland got me into Gamma Ray, Hallowed Be Thy Name got me into Iron Maiden, Blood On Your Hands -> Arch Enemy.

Children of Bodom were my portal to the metal genre. I still love Something Wild, but most of their other albums don't seem to have as much of an appeal as they used to.

 

 

 

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was my portal to classical.

 

 

 

I've yet to thoroughly explore other genres (I wouldn't say I've thoroughly explored metal or classical, for that matter).

I used to listen to a ton of classical (the only thing I'd listen to as a kid, I couldn't bear the music of the time... probably a good thing), but studying music intensively for 3 years has sort-of put me off it. Nevertheless I have so many classical CDs that I'll just listen to one for the hell of it someday.
