Will be getting a Wii soon, any advice?

Well they're getting a Wii because there are other members of the family (Wow), Wii is indeed a joke but it's a good family console.

Two of my friends have Wii. When the first one got it, we were pretty excited. But then after a couple of times of going to his place and playing, it got old really quick. The "wiimote" and "nunchuck" exist solely to piss you off. You're better off playing games with a GC controller. Then you have to ask yourself, why the [bleep] did you pay another $250 just to play rehashed gamecube games?

 

 

 

Look at his post, "his dad" decided. No [cabbage], if my parents viewed advertising for all three consoles, the Wii wins too because it's supposed to be "different" and "fun." But I consider myself just a notch above a casual player and I look at the Wii and I think it's a pile of crap.

 

 

 

Oh hey look, he's also getting an HD tv to see the full glory of the Wii's standard definition. 360 and PS3 upconverts DVDs. Wii can't even play a DVD. Hell, look at the PS3, it plays Bluray and games.

 

 

 

Of course, some moron is going to call me a fanboy. But fanboy of what? I don't give a flying [bleep] if he ends up buying a 360 or PS3. As long as he understands that Wii doesnt live up to the hype as much as everyone seemingly tries to say so.

 

 

 

If he wants a family game, get rock band. Even my mom and my little sister plays that. And hey, no gimmick needed.

Actually, if any console is a joke, its the ps3, it lacks a decent exclusive library and is ridiculously expensive. And don't get me started on the 360, it has a lot of good games, but i prefer my systems not to constantly die from red rings. The wii is far from a joke, its just frickin nearly impossible to find unless you ebay it. It has the virtual console for people who can't play the classics on thier original platforms and is backwards compatible with the gamecube games.

 

 

 

Also, i would look in to a few gamecube games for it aswell as a gamecube memorycard if you don't have one, and if you can find them at a gamestore(if your lucky)I would seriously look into a copy of pikmin and pikmin 2 if i were you.

Basically, the Wii is a GAMING system, anyone notice how a 360 and PS3 all are basically computer copycats. Wow, they can play music, games, and video. Yet my comp can do all that and more. The Wii isn't all that, and it's a good system to play with a few buddies when you're bored.

Well I was thinking of the library of games, It's for everyone. And because that you and your friends doesn't enjoy the Wii doesn't mean a family wouldn't, I also think your overreacting a bit. And no I didn't say only Wii allows the family to play, It was just you being a bit "paranoid".

 

 

 

Edit: Now don't think everyone enjoy rockband, at least I don't which means that there are other like me. It's not a large amount of family games on the 360 nor the ps3. The Wii is also cheaper and I don't think he stated in his post that he have a choice.

What's wrong with being informed? If the only reason he's getting a Wii is because his dad got suckered in by advertisement, that's more than $500 (after games/controllers bought) down the drain.

Consoles have changed over the years, from simple game playing machines to media centers. Just like modern computers. The Wii really lacks in hardware and extra features compared to the PS3 and XBox 360. The Wii is basically a gaming machine. Extras like dvd-movie playback aren't really important if you want to play games. If you have a standalone dvd player, why is it even an issue? How many dvd players do you really need, anyway? Even if you were to buy a console just to play movies and music, it would still be cheaper to buy a dvd player.

 

 

 

The main thing about consoles are of course, the games. If little to no games appeal to you, then why even consider it? Personally, there are very few games on the XBox 360 that I'd like to play, and most of them are available for PC anyway. If you (hawkxs) are a hardcore gamer, it might be better if you look into one of the other consoles, unless the Wii has everything you want to play. Although it doesn't seem like you are a hardcore game, judging by your post. It also seems like your dad is just getting the Wii as a family activity thing, in which case the Wii would be the best choice. After all, the Wii is cheaper and the games are easier to get into.

Okay I was reading the 2008 Gamer's Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records and it says the Wii can play DVDs and CDs. Go look at it if you don't believe me.

 

 

 

But, yes on Nintendo's website it says it doesn't play CDs or DVDs. I already have two DVD players plus a laptop that plays DVDs.

DON'T buy mario party 8, that game is an abomination. (pretty much all mario partie games are...) but if you're entitled to your opinion, then i'm not stopping you. last time i bought my wii, the package only came with wii sports.

 

 

 

brawl and mario kart wii are great additions to any wii players since they come with the accessibility to use multiple controllers and online play. super mario galaxy is fairly good, you'd expect it to be better then the previous franchises, great soundtrack, graphics and more stars to collect, only it doesn't have wifi support which means you'll be on limited gameplay.

why do people always say that RROD is deadly? Most of the time it is 2 rings( minor overheating) or 4 (AV cord not plugged). The only ones that get the 3 rrod alot are the modded or arcade ones. The 2 and 4 rings take minutes to fix and one ship to micro well get ur 3 rrod permantly fixed. I have a 360 and i have never gotten the 3rrod. you wont get any of them if u take care of it properply (after all, it is 500ish bucks). People just say that as an excuse to put down the 360. IT IS THE BEST.

online play doesn't suck unless you have a bad connection. :P idk why people think friend codes are bad, you can still share them with friends or someone you're just dying to race with.

 

 

 

i never play any games with voice chat, some troll would probably laugh at other peoples voice and thats not what online is intended for.

Ore 1 ring, which is what I used to get abefore I moved the system. It just means something's come unplugged :P

 

 

 

OT: Above all, stay AWAY from shovelware, most of which is Third-Party. Seriously, the only even vaguely decent Third-party game is that Steven Spielberg one, Boom Blox (though a good bit, but certainly not all, of the fun is throwing stuff at the animals in the background :P ).

 

 

 

Also avoid DAH: Big Willy Unleashed. Just a horrible, horrible edition to the Destroy All Humans! series. And Wii Play, get it, but torch the game, just keep the extra controller. Avoid games like "Ninja Reflex" like the plegg. And if someone suggests We Golf, tear out their throats.

 

 

 

Overall, there's a lot of crap for the Wii, but if you can find the gems (MP3, SMG, SSBB, etc.) you're good to go.

Okay I've been told that my family will be buying a Wii (and a new TV) for Christmas... Yes I know that's like six months away. I was just wondering if anyone has advice on what accessories to get or games or whatever.

 

 

 

My dad has decided we're getting the system and an addtional Wiimote, as well as two Nunchucks... Only get 1, extra, the system comes with one.We already have a GC and seven or eight games for it, as well as three controllers and three 1019 memory cards. Oh yeah, we're getting some form of a HD flat-screen LCD (no plasma for me), probably a 36 inch, nothing too big. Are there any other accessories we should plan on getting right away?

 

 

 

As my birthday is in February, I was going to ask for LoZ Twilight Princess... And the cool sword/shield/knife set they have at the Nintendo shop. Does anyone have the set and anything they want to say about it? Or Twilight Princess?

 

 

 

Oh and I wanted the Silicon Grip set for the Wiimote and Nunchuck in orange, as it is my favorite color. How well do the silicon grips hold up to not-so-great treatment?They hold up well, but may start feeling weird if they get sweaty. However, I would not getting these as taking the grip off the wiimote to change batteries is extremely annoying, and mine ripped when i took it off :x

 

 

 

And finally, I was going to get a Wii Points Card and get Super Mario Bros. (500), Kirby's Adventure (500), and LoZ: A Link to the Past (800). Are these pretty good choices? I have them all on my computer in .nes and .smc format, I've played them before, even had SMB for NES... Then it got fried.
