RS: scientific vs. relaxed approach

Well, I'm not saying either way is right or wrong, just keep this in mind:

Why do people want to get 99 in all their skills asap? Maybe they do have fun working like that. But that's just it; it's work. This "game" would become a second job that you're actually paying to do instead of getting paid. For this game to truly become a game where people would have fun, I would advise to enjoy that little shadow from that torch in HD, or playing Trouble Brewing or even Gnomeball just for the heck of it.

one point i want to make is that so often people put down other people because they dont have a 99 stat or dont have "high lvls". i'm more impressed with someone that has all 60 stats or something similar, because I KNOW that the hardest leveling is from 1-60. you guys should know that too. it's true you have to get more xp from 70-99 but what is xp if you have better ways to train a skill(s) and advanced knowledge of the game.. i see a lot of unfair criticism from players with high lvls that forgot what it took to get those levels. probably more to say but i'll leave it at that.

it's a browser based game. so having to pay attention isnt 100% required and there are other things to do while "playing". what's work to you is "fun" to others. i remember when i used to love smithing and mining. i loved training both skills and if you were to look for me ingame, i'd be doing 1 of the 2 90% of the time. that changed though, ;) now i dont train mining or smithing much because it feels like "work". of course, it used to be "fun". get my point?

about the scientific approach and relaxed approach; i think most people use both... so kind of pointless to say that you identify more with 1 or the other. about people's goals, it makes sense to know what's available and what is needed to access other things that could affect the way you're training something.

The scientific approaches are plagued with competition. The best way to be efficient is to not try to be as efficient as possible because competition will nullify the slight gain in XP. This applies to only things like training combat.

OH S***! He/she/it is back!

I keep a calculator in front of me at all times when playing to calculate profits, costs, amount of items to gain x amount of xp, etc. I have progressed to becoming more of an xp person rather than an independent person. For example, now, to get my smithing levels up, instead of mining my own coal, and taking a bit of time, I mine pure essence and sell it, then buy the coal. I figure i can get more than 3 pure ess in the time it takes me to mine 2 coal. (2 x 194 gp) < (3 x 150 gp)

When its time to make cash, I go sceintific. When it's time to chill, I chill. Both ways make me enjoy this game so much more then before. (< hey that rhymes!)

Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.

I think I tend to lean towards the scientific approach. If I am embarking on a major goal, for example 99 strength, the one I am currently working on as I type i will want to know roughly how much XP I will gain an hour. As for methods, I prefer to chose the fastest means of a achieving a goal while I still enjoy it. So far I have gained nearly 4 million strength XP at the giant spiders(level 50) and although these may be dull to kill if thats all you are doing this isn't the case for me because I do any number of other things at the same time.

I treat Runescape as a hobby the same as I do athletics. and my reasoning is very similar- the training may not be enjoyable but the rewards are.

I prefer the scientific approach. When I embark on a goal, I like to know how long it'll take and how much it'll cost. However, sometimes I do prefer more entertaining methods with a degree of change than something very repetitive for ages. I don't like making goals seem like something that I have to do, if I don't fancy doing it, then I'll go do something fun for a bit, and then get back to training. Overall, I try to get a good mix of relaxed and scientific, but tend to go more for something quick, but not boring.

I usually go whatever way I want. I want 99 fishing, now the most efficient way for me is to fish monks. But here I am at the guild fishing sharks, why do that? Well I think it's fun, sure it's slow but there is always a lot of talking and stuff to keep me busy and entertained. I usually prefere the fun laid back approach.

Gained first quest cape on 3/22/09! Gained 99 fishing 5/22/09!

I forgot when I got 99 cooking!

It really depends on what I'm doing.

I learned back when i was getting my first 99 (defense) that some things are better left uncalculated. (killing 21k-odd skeletons ftl. :P )

For the most part, I'll be relaxed, but occasionally when doing said relaxed thing, I'll open up a new browser window and so some calculations.

Hello All!

Well, I don't hang much on the forums - but if a topic comes up, I will post now and again.

This is one of those topics. I kind of wondered how other players play the game - just out of curiousity, mind you.

Me, I probably play the strangest strategy - none! lol

What I enjoy doing the most is the quests and the treasure trails! Seriously!

So, for me, I am not big on levelling unless I need to in order to do a quest I really want to do - for its rewards of course!

I really do enjoy the game - even though I may be one of the oldest players in a game designed for kids (I'm 47!! lol). It is my form of relaxation and "downtime."

I seen and met players much older than you pixie, and there is no right way to play runescape, I personally hate quests  , but love the skilling and combat side of the game :)

It is great way to relax though, but only if i'm doing something I enjoy

You only live twice. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face.

Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...

For me it really just depends on my mood for that day. Somedays I really want to gain lots of experience in a skill so I will do it in the quickest way while other days I don't really care so I hop from doing one thing to another one.

I used to do that a lot when I was "younger" (lower level). Now, I feel like some 30-year old person working as an accountant on World of Workcraft but actually paying to work. Currently, I am trying to get 70 prayer. I anticipate it will be by Saturday since I only need 800 more points. If I had done the faster approach, ecto d bones, then I would have spent about 2.5/3 mill from 63-68...I'm not buying piety for that much cash. Every 100 pc points saves me about 115k and gets me ~30k too  . I also get to show off my full melee, range, mage, and mace void and a few seals too. But FoG is where I really shine...
