July 8, 200817 yr Before the Grand Exchange, things like the Barrow armours, Dark Bows, Dragon Chains, Abyssal Whips, God Swords etc. were allowed to come out and the players set the price around the rarity of the items and how many people wanted them at the time, then they would slowly or fastly go down and stabalize, atleast for a while, on a price. After the release of the trading limit I took quite a long break, I came back just recently. But to my understanding no high leveled, useful/powerful items have been released. When this does happen though, how will the pricing be affected because of the Grand Exchange? Will Jagex create a price they see fit and we have to stick to it until the price starts dropping or rising as they allowed to happen or will we maybe be able to set our own prices and see if they sell and the Grand Exchange work out a common price from the selling and buying figures? July 8, 200817 yr I think you answered your own question here: Will Jagex create a price they see fit and we have to stick to it until the price starts dropping or rising as they allowed to happen. Jagex claim the Grand Exchange is a player driven economy, however they set initial prices for things like masks + the top hat obviously too low for what they will be worth in the rush to own one, so players resort to Junk Trading and forcing the price up as high as it will go.
July 8, 200817 yr Dragon plate might come out soon. :o Or dragon pick. :D No doubt, when the next high leveled weapon/armour comes out it will be "junk traded" :\
July 8, 200817 yr Unless the new item that's release is a single combat boss it won't be junk traded as people will team it with coinshar, putting the item into the g.e at mid price. July 8, 200817 yr Author Yeah, that will probably be the outcome. Real shame though, I remember when Barrows came out it was absolutely hectic. Everybody rushing around trying to get the new items, trading for ridiculous prices and just general mayhem. Getting messages like: "I Just got new torags hammers from barrows and sold for 12m!!!!12;';'1;'" Lmao. But now everyone will immediately know how good and wanted the items will be from the set price at the GE, and there will be no more crazy lucky trades and the unknown of what the items are, how good they are etc. Currently not active on RuneScape.
July 8, 200817 yr Unless the new item that's release is a single combat boss it won't be junk traded as people will team it with coinshar, putting the item into the g.e at mid price. But still demand could be so much bigger then supply so for every "mega item" that comes into game there are 10 buyers at max on ge...it will still probably be junk traded.
July 8, 200817 yr The leaf-bladed sword and the top hat are good examples of what happens when a new rare item is released - they set a price that they think is fit, then players, anxious to get the new item, put in offers for maximum price to try to get the new item, causing the price to rocket up. Once players figure out the bonuses and all that jazz, the prices go down slightly. However, if something as big as a new dragon item comes out and players are willing to pay more than the Grand Exchange prices are, 3rd age is the perfect example of that - nobody sells it through the intermediary called the Grand Exchange, but rather sell it with a lot of junk, and the Grand Exchange price never really goes up, unless some less intelligent player(s) sell it via the exchange thinking that they are getting a good deal.
July 8, 200817 yr well, just look at what a horrible job jagex has done so far with high end item prices. P hats and sgs+ags took them months to "fix". They have yet to fix 3rd age. Then look at their new treasure trail item prices. Top hat was valued at somthing like 300k the day of release, animal masks 100k, canes 30k-100k depending on the cane. Jagex 100% blows at setting prices. Bottem line, save your junk. I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
July 8, 200817 yr They'll pick an arbitrary, stupid price that reflects no understanding of the real value of the item. Then they'll let it sit adjusting by 5% a day for weeks or months while people bypass the GE using junk trades. That's if we're lucky -- they could screw it up even worse. Meanwhile, those that did thw work and got the drop get shafted by Jagex incorrect price. I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.

That will be the ultimate deciding factor for whether the price moves or not while the junk trading is going on.
July 8, 200817 yr Yep, it'll be junk traded if jagex fails to set it at the price it should start as - eg very high. 2480+ total
July 9, 200817 yr I'm pretty sure that Jagex sets the price at a reasonable amount and allow for no price restriction for a couple of days to allow the players to set the price. Can anyone confirm that?
July 9, 200817 yr I doubt that the item will be "junk traded", since like another poster stated, CoinShare will ensure that the item always comes in at median range. So that means, regardless of what Jagex sets it to, it will grow/decay like a normal high-end item does. July 9, 200817 yr I think that Jagex sets a loose item price when a new item comes out meaning that only a few items would skyrocket the price, as more and more come in the system they tighten the price where it is making it harder to move the price. http://www.erepublik.com/en/referrer/Julius+Rodvigo <-- Clicky!

It's merchants that set the prices Jagex does a fine job it's greedy people who like lots of pixel who seize every single item out there and jack it and force people to buy it at their price or not get it. As far as SGS+AGS they arn't that good it's just merchants jacked up the prices and now they are slowly crashing dropping millions a week. Partyhats well noone buys them throught the GE so the ge can't change the price of them. The only reason 3rd age is so much street price is because those merchants will billions have a ton of them and are holding on to them. Frankly noone buys 3rd age for it's stats because they arn't that good it's just looks and wealth like partyhats used to be. Basically Jagex sets the prices merchants buy quickly and ruin prices for everyone else. But i'm sure if it's a huge item they'll sit it very high compared to the worthless TT items. July 9, 200817 yr What should be happening is Jagex sets limits between 0 gp and 100 million gp initially, and then move each delimiter in by 20% of the difference between the "average selling price" and the edge, until it reaches the normal 5% range. Of course, that'd never happen.

Of course, that'd never happen. I see a flaw in it already: Merchants en masse buy this good at 10gp a piece, then trade it off for massive profits. Oo, thanks for reminding me =D I have 10M needles I need to get rid of  hopefully if I get my hands on a dragon plate (highly unlikely, knowing my luck.. but I still live in hope) i'd be able to get rid of them all. But yea I don't think jagex would price dragon plate like it SHOULD be, I reckon they'll put it in at like.. 20M -.- either way, I don't think it'll effect many items prices  well.. the dragon chain should plummet for sure, maybe come down to 4 - 7m'ish
July 9, 200817 yr It's just like the Leaf-Bladed sword, its price was set to 70k something, but its over 500k on the street. People will stop caring about the Grand Exchange price and use junk to make the price sky rocket.
July 9, 200817 yr a good idea will be a no trade limit rule when a new item comes out. players will get to decide what they want to pay for the item for the next few days after release, and they will monitor every trade that goes through with the item until they put an average of all the prices players have used to buy the item on the ge. of course players can easily be scammed this way so there will be a final confirmation screen after the player presses accept on the second trade screen. are you sure you want to trade this item for: (insert price)? yes no just to make sure no stupid players are scammed #-o
