The Buttered Cat

Recommended Posts

Wait, what would happen if we toasted the cat, and then buttered it's back? Maybe... We could do the whole thing without any burning of bread!

Been there, done that. Only without the butter.

since there are doubters here who say buttered toast doesn't always land butter side down  , how about we get two cats, weld em to a pole and watch as we get free energy!

Great idea...only one problem...how the hell do you weld a nonmetal object to a metal pole? And wouldn't the pole like allow the cat to land sideways or something where the cat just kind of walks away with a pole/cat on its back? Seems like the pole would cause interference.

What needs to happen is to get conjoined cats who are attached at the exact center of their backs. No pole, no "welding", no problem.

So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Good job.
What scares me is that you're like 10 years old.
-.- im not that freaking young
You were a couple years ago.
It's not racist if its true.
Hmm... I wonder how one goes about throwing someone out a window in a mystic fashion :-k

The mental image for that is freaking awesome.

ya but how do you get energy from the cats? with my plan they will be spinning the pole which we could hook up to turbines for energy! :D

Now, following another "rule" we know that buttered toast lands spread side down, always.

This is not true. They disproved this on Mythbusters, as I recall it was an almost perfect 50/50 chance of the toast landing spread side down.

Proof

Buttered Toast: which side does it fall on?

There were two things being tested here: 1. If buttered toast falls off the table, does it prefer to land butter side down 2. If a buttered toast falls through the air, which side does it prefer to fall on?

First (Adam's) rig: Adam's rig most closely replicated a piece of toast falling off of a table top. Testing with a control sample of unbuttered test, the dominant behavior was for the toast to flip once and land top side down. They didn't need to do any more testing with actual buttered toast, as the rig clearly had a bias.

Second (Jamie's) rig: Jamie's rig tested whether or not, all things being equal, which side toast prefers to fall on. It shoots toast straight down.

With control sample testing, toast kept landing down. Once again they were statistically challenged, as they stopped after 10 samples. They determined that 3 ups and 7 downs was enough to show a clear down bias, and once again, if just one of those had been different, they it would have been 4 ups and 6 downs, which doesn't seem biased at all.

Third rig: based on Jamie's original design, but with way more over-engineering to be more automated, regular, and MythBuster-y. A conveyor belt toaster dropped the toast off onto a second conveyor belt that carried toast over to Adam, who marked the toast and loaded it into a dropper that was then released with a switch.

* 11 up and 13 down with control sample

* 12 up and 12 down with buttered sample

They determined this to be "less biased", so they then brought it to the roof of MythBusters HQ. From the top of the roof:

* 26 up and 22 down with control sample

* 29 up and 19 down with buttered sample

Jamie's theory was that for a lot of the buttered toast that landed butter side up, the buttered side was pressed in, forming a cup that affected the way the toast dropped. Regardless:

Spoilsport. I say that we forget this whole thing and go light a few cats on fire. Then tie them together and drop them off of an office building. Actually, thats a bad idea. We should tie them together first.

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

Now if you could encase the cat in some kind of backpack you would be able to fly around....

This could be the solution to all our energy woes! Millions of cats and buttered toast, perpetually spinning to create an everlasting energy source!

As long as the cats don't die.

That.. is.. Genius!! =D>

Actually, that is sparta.

This is totally random, OT has been up to some weird crap while I was away.

im too lazy to read the rest of the opic, but the mythbusters form the discovery channel already debunked the buttered toast myth, finding it only has a 50/50 chance of butter side down. (kinda like the coin flip, how if you flip a cin enough times, it will eventually go to a 50/50 ratio of heads/tails) so by association of comparitive principles, the cat must land cat first... i think.

I require hugs. Seriously, just give them to me, and youll see your little turtle again.

and... for the coin flip.. its not directly 50/50.... one side if slightly heavier.
