Beethovens29
Well, as you all know, the lending system has been a very helpful and also harmful tool for most players. It is ESPECIALLY both harmful and helpful when it comes to lending rares. Take this picture for example: that is me with a santa hat that someone was willing to lend to me. But i had to pay 3k(i did this just to take a picture lmao). Then i realized, what if this was a scam? She will take the money and run! I payed 3k for 3 minutes. And yes, I was that desperate, so don't make fun of me. I unwillingly gave her the money, and to my surprise!!! i was given the santa hat. I didn't keep it for 3 minutes though, it was more like 2.8 minutes..... Now, this scam may not just be used for rares, it can be used for lending expensive armor such as a dragon chainbody or a weapon such as a rune 2h. I have listed some pros and cons of this lending system that you can discuss about. If you think of any more, I can post it on this post and you will be credited for it. -------------------------------------------------- Being able to wear a rare item. Renting expensive armor without paying. Using powerful weapons without buying them. The ability to do better emotes for videos with emote enhancers. The ability to show of your 99 skill without buying the cape. The ability to gain items without wasting bank space when that item is not in use. You don't waste as much money. You make people happy (well this would be a bad thing to some people lol  ) Helping under privileged players to gain a better playing experience. Helping players defeat monsters without dieing(lending them good armor and weapons). Better PvP mini game experience for players. Some items in the economy will go up in price and can help merchants and other players gain more money. The Lending System allows players to be able to access better training areas such as lending certain keys, etc...... The Lending System is also a great pair for the request assistance system. People can obtain stuff without buying them, use that item, and then return it without having it take up space in the bank until next time. ------------------------------------------------------------------ (tbh, i actually had a hard time on this one) The amount of scams will increase. Some items in the economy will drop. The Lending System can hinder merchants and cause sellers to gain less money. People will become poorer due to more scams. With people becoming poorer, the economy can drop more. Being that some people will abuse the lending system, and the fact that it is a new release, the game can become glitched in many ways. The amount of spam will increase(beggers). Other people will not have a good playing experience because of other people begging them for their items, ESPECIALLY rares. The fact that you have to go to a bank to get back your item wastes time, and time is money, so it wastes money. People will become annoyed and jealous when a bunch of people beg someone for their rare, and that person gives it to someone else. The amount of abuse reports will increase. Being that many rules such as scamming, offensive language, macroing, etc, will be happening, jagex may think about removing the Lending System like they did with Pking. As you can see, there is approximately an equal amount of pros and cons, so you can say that the lending system is probably a balanced idea between a good and bad one. Mylez
In the past year or so, I think the item lending system has to be the worst update. It's not a bad idea but is extremely flawed and brings many unwanted problems. So far I've reported at least 10 people for breaking rule 3 by organising trust trades/item scamming. I do like the idea; I'm frequently asking my friend if I can borrow his partyhat. However, neither one of us would dream of exchanging money for this. RS is still in the Beta period, so I'm hoping some changes will be made, all of the problems have been outlined on the RSOF and J-Mods have seen them, lets just sit back and wait eh? ;) :D
britonlongbow
I wanted to try using an ags to solo bandos and since I know no-one that owns one I went to world two. The first person wanted 100k and I got some maple longs in return. He then promptly logged, The second person only wanted the trade limit and did lend the gs to me. So it all depends on if you already know some-one willing to lend the item and if you get honest people to lend the item.
Lacoste
I dont know anyone who would be stupid enough to pay someone to borrow something, especially a random person. Thats why you have friends who are nice :

Thats why you have friends who are nice : Me ;) But if you go to world 2 GE there is a large market of people paying to have items lended to them. And some for exorbitant prices. One person I saw paid 600k for 3 hours with an ags

starmily
I have to say that my experience with the trading system has been overwhelmingly positive. I admit that I was skeptical, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Yes, there are a lot of beggars. And they are quite annoying. However I have no problem saying no or just ignoring someone who begs (not putting on ignore list -- just ignoring them). As for the paying to borrow...if you do it, you have to realize it is a risk. On the other hand, I really enjoy lending stuff out to my friends. I also like lending to random people. I always try to lend something out when I log off; there's no sense in it sitting in the bank unused. Without exception, everyone I've lent something to has been very appreciative. I've also been blown away by the generosity of my friends and even that of total strangers. I've never asked to borrow anything, but have been offered (and borrowed) all kinds of things -- sometimes by pm from a friend "Hey, you want to borrow my dragon wc axe?" or even by a total stranger just putting up the lending screen without saying anything -- and then saying "enjoy it for a while." Yes there are flaws and yes there are people who take advantage. I know some people don't like it now that you can't tell if a person with an expensive item is the true owner or just borrowing. I still think that overall, in my experience at least, it has been a positive thing as it gives players a chance to be generous in a safe way -- and a lot of Runescape players, it seems, are very kind and generous people. haz280
I love it, if you can get a wanted item like bgs you can get rid of all your junk while making someone happy \ I have seen so many beggers though, gets annoying when you're walking around with an item someone wants and have them begging to borrow the item. Seen alot of people get scammed from it to though, would never do that myself personally but as long as people are willing to pay to borrow an item, there will be plenty of scammers out there. :shame: Thanks Hatebringer for the awesome siggeh :) ^ I got bored ;) My blog is win <

Makoto_the_Phoenix
The only real way that this system can be abused is if people forget its intended purpose. It's called Item Lending, not Item Loaning. Get it straight. Seraphyna
It's only lame because people use it to scam and to make money. Lending should be because someone is being nice, not because they want to make money off it, if you ask me. Isn't renting an item technically a trust trade anyhow, and thus against the RS rules? First most of these trades are for junk and as jagex has stated trading for junk is just like trading for any other item. And the item is given because you bought something that they are unable to sell otherwise Second A mod said on the forums that it was legal to do in-game but illegal to advertise on RSOF

How can you absolutely guarantee that they're going to give you the items/payment for the item rental? Simple answer: You can't. And I hope that they don't implement such a system, either. Mylez
Agreed. People will always find a way to scam as long as there is item interaction between players :?
