I'm going to post something that happened to me tonight that I thought was a little strange.

 

 

 

I was hacked yesterday but didn't care because I was f2p and didn't really play anymore. Tonight I tried to log on again. This time, my pass was changed back to normal and I was able to log in. When I logged in I got a PM from the hacker (I assume)

 

 

 

I decided not to report him after this, so I won't reveal his RSN. I had never heard of him before so I assumed he was the hacker when he PMed me out of the blue.

 

 

 

Him: I see you're back on.

 

Me: ?

 

Him: Come to Varrock my world.

 

*I check what world he's in*

 

Me: That's a mems world I can't come.

 

Him: Just come, I have a little present for you.

 

Me: k...

 

*I go to a members server. It logged me on, with a crisp 31 days of members!*

 

Him: Do you like it?

 

Me: Erm, thanks... how did you do it?

 

Him: I just used a Visa gift card I had left over from my bday.

 

 

 

I started to type, and he logged out. Hasn't logged in since, but I checked the highscores. He has a decent account, so he probably just removed me from his friends and set his PM to friends only.

 

 

 

I really don't understand why he would do this. I mean, he didn't take anything from me, if anything, HE lost out here.

 

 

 

My question is this: Has anyone else experienced something like this, or heard of something like this?

 

 

 

Or worse, is he trying something more complicated?

I gotta give here, I've never heard of anything like that. Personally, I think that if you subscribe again you should check your credit card to make sure there isn't some way for him to see your info by using the visa card info.

I once got tricked by someone who Pretended to fully extend to be my friend, i didn't realize it and i was a noob back then...

 

 

 

Though i thought person was a good friend, i let her be on my account: She made member and i noticed she was a loser within 5 min and changed pass.

 

 

 

Bling....i got 31 day as member.

That'd be a hell of a sales pitch, and it'd work, I doubt it but I dont mock it, it'd be kinda cool.

 

 

 

As far as say enjoy the members, but be careful about subscribing with a credit car just in case.

whats wrong with a randoum act of kindness, i will sometimes go up to someone lend them my red phat for an hour and log off so they can have fun with it, admitedly this is a little more but still i wouldn't worry to much ;)

I think that he might be trying to get your account again, you can use past credit card numbers that have been used to pay for members to get past recovery questions sometimes.

I'm pretty skeptical about this. He might be toying with your emotions and is planning on taking your account again or screwing you over somehow. Or he really could be just some nice guy. You never know.

good point... maybe he just wanted to feel cool to hack someone but not want to have it hanging over his conscious so he also gave the account a month of membership?

Thats pretty cool. He might be a friend irl that found out your password. But just to be on the safe side check when using a credit card.

I was thinking more along those lines. However, something about it just gives me a weird feeling....

only thing to watch out for is if the payment gets canceled you end up with negative membership and banned until it's paid up

that might be it. The credit card account might be empty and this could happen. Then you will have to pay for one month of membership and maybe another fee to get your account back.

That does sound weird though, there has to be a reason behind it. Maybe he's an old friend or he's gonna somehow use it to, in the end, ruin your account instead of help it. I've heard of hackers getting levels up and stuff and leaving the pass the same, but this sort of doesn't compare to that.

 

 

 

Or maybe it could just be an apology for hacking you in the first place. Oh well, you'll find out in a month.

Visa gift cards are just like Visa credit cards, except they have a balance put on them.

 

You can go to a cvs pharmacy, and buy a visa gift card and load it up with as much money as you want by paying the cashier, useful for buying stuff online without your parents needing to know about it.

I'm worried that he's waiting for my account to become great, then hack it.

that could be it. Since he can't drop trade the gold over anymore, he could just be waiting until you hit level 100 (or something pretty good) and think that you will reach it faster if you are member.
