sohkmj1
Just wondering if anyone plays some Strategy games. Here are the ones i mainly play, feel free to talk about yours too. Mods remove or delete or lock or whatever if you feel that there is a thread like this already. [hide=C&C]Does anybody still actually play the series? I just bought the entire saga series. I can't play it on internet though, so if you would like to discuss it here or whatever, go ahead. It's a series spanning about 10+ years, with 3 different "universes" I currently play only Command & Conquer : Red Alert 2. Loved the game when i was 5-10 (z0mg yes i play rts when i was 5, no joke(but i lost 4/5 of my games)), so i bought it mainly for that Red Alert 2(Not gonna review those before) Decent graphics and good storyline, but is a little.... unrealistic (tanks costing $700, buildings costing $500, units being taller or equal height as tanks.)[/hide]. [hide=Blizzard Entertainment]Warcraft 3 Loved the game for about a month, then got bored of it quickly. (DotA is boring, and the people on battle.net are stupid immature kids.) Starcraft Waiting for the sooper starcraft 2. But starcraft is a quick and decent game too despite it's crap graphics.[/hide] [hide=StrategyFirst]Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood We deleted this game after it got boring, and it was eating a lot of space, but it is kind of fun... In a way. Disciples 2 + Expansions Man I love this game, it's kind of like a board game, but it provides a nice element of gameplay. Good storyline too. Some other games which i can't be bothered to review...[/hide] [hide=Classics]Age of Empires 1 Saw my dad playing this when i was 4. Got hooked on it at 6, broke the cd (nooo) accidentally at 7. Got it back last week because a kind friend offered to burn it for me. <3 Okay graphics but complicated gameplay. Seven Kingdoms 2: The Fryhtan Wars My childhood favourite. Looks awesome, incredible gameplay but no storyline. :( Every soldier has their own unique name... Much like the heroes of warcraft 3, except that there are over 12 races to choose from. That's one heck lot of names! The death voices(what?) of the indian and japanese soldiers went on to become the death voices of the marines in starcraft. This would be changed in Starcraft 2. Played this when i was 5-10, then from 11-11 because the cd got lost :wall: Krush, Kill N Destroy Xtreme(KKnD xtreme) Crap graphics, it is like Starcraft mixed with the command & conquer franchise. but the campaign briefings are quite funny. It is quite challenging too.[/hide] If you have any(which i doubt anyone plays strategy games often anyway on this forum), please post here, might wanna include a couple of screenshots too. thanks! ;) Mods please lock if this is in the wrong place or there is an already existing thread. eggzs
I got addicted to Red Alert 2 back in 2001-03 when I was 9ish and spent hours playing and perfecting my strategies, played CC Generals for a bit but not as intense as my RA2 days and finally purchased Command and Conquer 3. CC3 was fun for a few months and then I played some RTS's outside of Command and Conquer begining with Company of Heroes. CoH had great graphics, story etc. and was hooked on it for a while. Now I'm playing World in Conflict and I have to say that it is one of the best games I've played with excellent graphics, multiplayer, and unit balancing. I was looking forward to RA3 but after playing games such as WiC and CoH, it's gonna be another tank rush fest, with not much actual planning with whoever manufacturers the most tanks/min wins. Yeah, when I played RA2, I just tank-spammed and kicked quite a bit of [wagon], but now that I've moved onto other, more strategic ones, I've found that's the perfect way to get face-raped. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
ThurinEthir
I mainly play the original Age of Empires, Age of Empires 2/Age of Kings, and Civilization IV. I plan on picking up Total War: Eras sometime soon as well. : (It's a pack of 3 of the Total War games with their expansions...I think) I don't play the original Age of Empires as much, but I replayed all the scenarios again not too long ago. As for the second one, I play it pretty casually. Not that much. Both are great if you don't care about graphics, you'd probably want something else if you do. But I'd still recommend AoK. Civilization IV on the other hand...I've really gotten into it lately. Mainly because I have nothing else to do. It's your typical Civilization game, except better. The games can take really long, and in my opinion, it's a pretty hard game. Still great though, I'm trying to beat all the scenarios on one level (I can't remember which) right now. I love the Mongol one, since it's purely combat based...And I love combat in strategy games. Lenin64
I don't have many, since all the good ones are for PC and until recently my system was old and slow (still old, but no longer slow  ). I do, however, have Sins of a Solar Empire (is that the only space-based strategy game out there? Can't be.) and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. I'm looking at the C&C saga next, and of course Halo Wars. Command the Murderous Chalices! Caxis
Strategy games are my favorite ;O. I started off with Warcraft 2 and Command and Conquer. I don't like the upkeep system, and I'm not too fond of the Hero system either... The game also felt slow, but battles were pretty good. I mostly played custom games though. As for C&C, Generals was just bad. I liked Red Alert 2 and all the previous games though. I haven't played any of the newer ones due to not having Windows XP.. Starcraft is my favorite though. I haven't played in a few months, but if anyone wants to play some games, PM me :D.

Diesel
I had a lot of good times on Age of Empires 2. :D Probably my all time favorite computer game. I loved creating crazy maps and watching as they lagged terribly because I put too many soldiers/explosions. Last.Fm My Bloggy Proud to have served on Tip.it Crew

That's probably the one thing I like about Vista, it comes with chess. : (I suck though, I was pretty good a few years ago...) I also forgot about Fire Emblem, I never got the pleasure of playing the handhelds/Japanese ones, but I have the Gamecube and Wii ones. Faux
RA2 is one of my favourite games of all time. Sad that RA3 doesn't remind me of it at all... but meh. Rome: TW is one of the best IMO. The fact that they combined two types of strategy games is awesome. Warcraft 3 is pretty good too, loved it at first...but it got frusterating only have the bloody 90 population limit. Bring me WC2's unlimited pop cap back, damnit! monkeyboo2
Age of Mythology + Expansion is still the top PC strategy game for me. It has the perfect balance of econ and military as well as the complex calculation side of the game and the simple interfaces. Then add in factors like God powers and your going crazy with all the possibilities... Not to mention the great Campaign mode and AWESOME editor. Seriously, you can do anything on that editor- you make your own campaigns, recreate films in game, create your own units and design your own cities. Very good game. Would recommend to anybody and everybody. AOE 3 just didn't cut it for me i'm afraid. Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.Sounds like Jagex to me... baron8000
These threads never have enough love for the creations of Chris Taylor: namely total annihilation (old game now, but I'd take it over C+C any day) and the fairly new Supreme Commander. [hide=][/hide] I'll let the graphics speak for itself, but slip in a few details about the ability to zoom the map in to seeing the smallest combat bot (and realising its still as big as a tree) or all the way out so the units are nothing more than strategic map markers allowing the co-ordination of massive scale attacks. Oh, and to whoever disliked the population-cap in games, this game has none, and the ability to order your units in blocks of 500 :D, this is the game for massive scale battles.
