Randy2727
I think the filter is good but it need to be turned down a bit. I can't even say my best friends username i have to spell it ce%ymomma for people to know who I'm talking about. It does help with swear spamming but it's kind of blown out of proportion what is considered offensive. For example my school, suck, cexy, phone, sometimes smiley faces get blocked if they are at the end of a sentence =[ =] =[]
Yomyth105
i actually like the filter because it stops noobs from cursing. without it ppl who think that theyre kool would just spam the f word. try playing halo on the computer. not a single sentense has no curses. im so used to it that it just doesnt even come in mind to curse while im playing. Owned_Nex
Its a sad fact, but Jagex would NEVER remove it. Although this is suppose to be a 13+ game, there is almost no violence(if you consider a little sword poking around is violent...) There is nothing in the game that would make it 13+. Most of the people are little kids. If the filter was removed, then parents would not let them play, cancel their membership. That=bad business or Jagex. If you look at games like WoW, there is no filter because the game is much more complicate, and not suitable for the average 7 year old. Unless the game gets MUCH more "13+" content, the filter would NEVER be removed. The game does censor many words that should not be. But any less and it would allow people to spell out profanities in "leet" Dungeoneering isn't a skill. I'm faster than bots at Sorceress Garden. PM me if you want to chat. My PM is always off. Kellis
I'm glad the filter's there. I see so many calls of "noob" and so much tortured English that I would just cringe under the abusive verbal onslaughts I'm sure I'd see the second the filter went down. PvP worlds are already bad enough . . . And while an occasional swear upon death is understandable, there's not much in Runescape worth swearing over. Just a game, remember? ;)

magzar
those of you who want the filter removed obviously weren't playing before it was added it was a constant flood of idiotic kids cursing at everything in sight [hide]Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. hzwquy
because it has to be a family freindly game perhaps they could have a world or two that only if you're 18+ and varified that age you can go on and there would be no filter?
Metalmelleni1
I think it should be a choice, like,i was talking to a friend 2 days ago and the word school was censored, why would they censor this?I think the censor goes to far sometimes. Arixe
While the chat filter might be annoying to the more mature users of Runescape, it's a necessary evil. Movies and music are already laden with profanities and other explicit content that young children shouldn't be exposed too. In-game should be a place where parents don't have to worry about their kids learning about sex, drugs, and profanities. But Jagex does need to loosen up their filter as far as languages other than English.
Wisp
This thing that pisses me off about the censor most is is that it blocks some words little kids use. Example, butt is blocked. Often times I'm talking to a friend, maybe they just died and lost something, I try to say "oh, that sucks" and I can't. There are no other good words to replace suck. Stink sounds ridiculous, and there's not much else. I think if in a T rated game there can be words like damn and suck, there should be in runescape, and make all the people who put there age as 12 or under only be able to use qc worlds Hegemony-Spain

Housepig
I think that if Jagex allowed players to swear, they would be swamped with players abusing it and swearing continously. This is, in my opinion, because the RuneScape community is rediculously immature. I may sound like I'm just whining about how things were better "back in the day", but the game never used to be marketed towards children; there always used to be children playing, but it was marketed towards adolescents. On the other hand, some of the words Jagex blocks are ridiculous. I would be hard-pressed to find anyone who takes offence at the word "damn" or "butt"; and the censoring of "my school" is pathetic, since nine of ten uses of the phrase are legitimate, making it an unnoficial exeption to the rule against avoiding the chat filter. If absolute power corrupts absolutely, where does that leave God?

Megamickel
I'm just mad that I got muted for telling some noob to shut the hell up. I mean, come on! He was following me around for 20 minutes asking "how do i get staff" and I told him "go out and train" over 9000 times, and he wouldn't go away, he was like "but i need it" and I was like "All you need to do is shut the hell up, bro, and go train moar." Bah. Noob had it coming.
aspeeder
For all of the reason stated, the general immaturity of the player base being the biggest part, a filter would not work. However, certain words and grouping of words need to be left alone. I like to annoy my friends by speaking Spanish randomly, and it's really annoying that as is censored within words just because it bears resemblance to a certain 3 letter word. And one word that they should not have censored is stalker, I just use that therm whenever some noob is following me around, and I don't see how getting rid of the word increases player safety; if anything it diminishes because players are not able to point out people who are trying to find out info or something http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
BlueLancer
I think that certain worlds should be available for players who can verify their age, whether it be 16+ or 18+ or whatever. Sounds like a great idea IMO.. It has almost zero possibility of abuse, because you would really have to prove you are 18 for example (by sending a nominal $1 wire transfer to Jagex's bank account and the name matches the one in your RS details), and a parent would probably ask questions if their kid was begging them to be "let on a 16/18+ world". Bauke
Allthough I do wish to be able to play in a world where no <16 year olds are allowed, it's not going to happen. verte
Profanity filter is fine as long as it doesnt filter LEGITIMATE words and phrases. Which is exactly the problem. DarkNooNoo
I seriously think maybe all but the big 3 (f***, s*** and c***) shouldn't be blocked. Once I even got censored for abreviating Construction to constr I mean what the hell? Another strange thing about the filter is it thankfully doesn't block bloody (which I use all the time in real life  ) but blocks bum :| . P.S. if they don't do this I think they should atleast put a context reader thing (?) on so if I say mistype ask and put assk or for example say something about how a new dam is being built nearby (rubbish example I know) I can be understood. Plugpoint
Obviously it's necessary to block f-words and all that sort of thing. Lord_Shalaj
I don't think so. Firstly, on the age verified worlds idea - While I do understand that most of the offenses are generated by young and immature players, it goes without saying that you will expect a good amount from older players too. Most of the time, a verbal arguement can start anywhere (due to numerous reasons) and if it would get heated, a player could create serious damage with the words you are asking to remove from the censor. Now what would happen next? The player who has been abused badly would report. The player who had offended him would get muted/blackmarks/banned. Similar cases would make Jagex censor those same words again. We're back to square one. Just because someone is 16 years of age doesn't mean he is fully mature. And major cases of RWT are actually done my people above this age or similar. Well i say that you should be able to choose the profanity filters. So if your parents dont care about video game swearing or your 18+ then you should be able to turn the filter off.Everyone else just keeps it on.It should also be on by default The child would simply turn it off once his parents stop watching him play. --- From what I see, most of you want to remove these words from censor because you just want to vent (not about a person, but about the game). In my opinion, never go so deep into a game that makes you curse everything around you if you die/lose an item. If you do feel like venting, log off, shoot a few aliens and we're back ;) [Deep breaths help too...venting gets you no where except fouling other people's mood and even yours] Thanks..
