The Classics of the Future

Featured Replies

Have you ever thought about what would be the new classics or reference of today's time in the future? Like we all know of Elvis Presley; he was a classic of the 50s and 60s that is still very known today. What I'm asking is, what current things would still hold to be highly known in the future? Or just some-what known. (TV shows, games, gadgets, etc.)

What I think? I think Super Mash Brothers is going to be remembered a bit in the future. Such a simple game in a complex time... Also due to Halo's overreacting fanboys and publisity, our grandchildren will recongize Master Chief from being from some game.

And I don't know why but I got a pit feeling that SpongeBob is going to be remembered for a long time. #-o

I dunno about Master Chief. An icon of the Xbox series, yeah. But people I know who has the game don't really care about Master Chief storyline. They just like the multiplayer.

SSBM will be a classic. I don't think SSBB will be though. Besides, they're not done making the series yet even though they claimed SSBB was the last one. Oh well, as long as fanboys are happy that Nintendo's swimming in money.

Spongebob is awesome. Of course it will be remembered.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Spongebob will still be around by 2040. >.>

Dora The Explorer.

The Current Batman Movies.

Harry Potter Movies.

MGS Series.

LCD Monitors (lol).

Gas...

Government Icons (Bush, Cheny(sp?)...etc).

Just random guesses...

The current classic games will still be the classics of the future. The simplicity of these old games is what keep people playing them year after year. Games like halo become too repetitive, and people won't enjoy beating the same levels for 30 years #-o . Spongebob will also die in about 5 years, I'm guessing.

Overall, most of the classics are likely to be the same. You're forgetting that times like the 50's and 60's were the years that rock n' roll and video games were invented. If pong was invented a short while after it did, we wouldn't be playing it today.

Unless a different genre of music/games shows up, they won't bother adding more classics to the list :? .

In 25 and a half years, cannabis will be legal and therefore world peace shall occur!!! And everyone will drive hovercars which run on bubble soap and emitt bubbles instead of bad gases!!!

My Last.Fm

LeekSpinner!!!

Random Furry Dance!!!

Proud to hate life, since not too long ago!!!

In 20 years, the Simpsons will FINALLY be a classic TV show that ended.

I'll be able to tell my kids about the classic game RuneScape!

But, seriously, in 75 years, we will BE ALL DED! AND WE WILL BE ZOMBEY MUTINTS WHO EAT KAKE!!!!!!! LOLROTFLEBBQ![/joke]

In a year or 100, people will get taught about the 20th Century.

The 20th century was one where people where significantly less developed when we are now. They constantly had these things called wars, where people would kill one another for a political reason. Later, these wars turned into more indirect wars, where there wasn't exactly a battlefield. Examples of these are the so-called "Cold War" and "The War on Terror"

Lil' bit offtopic, but meh.

Aurei_Animus.png

I suppose some games and people will be remembered, but what about music?

If I'm not wrong, some of the biggest stars are not much bigger now than Rick Astley was back in the days. That worries me a bit; we can never play music to our kids and tell that the makers of this music were big back in the 2000s.

"Do you hear this? It is not without reason that this single was on the Billboard for a week!"

In twenty years, kids will probably EminemRoll each other, if the internet is still being used, that is...

Wrestling might be your passion but you don't need to try to advertise it as the greatest thing since sliced bread in every single post, because it isn't.

I'm sorry I'm not trying to start an arguement but the point of this thread was to discuss who/what you think would be the new classics or reference of today's time in the future. Alot of people are huge Elvis Presley fans back then, I'm sure many stated that he was the best and I don't think it is wrong of them to state that he would be the reference of today's time in rock and roll.

Likewise, I personally think that the way things are going, in the future when one mentions wrestling, one would immediately think of the name John Cena. Hulk Hogan was the "man" of wrestling in the 1980's and I feel that Cena is the "man" of wrestling in the 2004's, is there anything wrong about me voicing my opinion about the topic?

On the bright side, I'm glad that you read my post.

Yeah, I should apologise really, there is nothing wrong with your post that was pretty douchey of me.

If you think about the way Hulk Hogan revolutionised wrestling, he was maybe one of the first flagship wrestlers and pushed WWF into the popularity it has today. Sure, JC has great charisma and a good popularity record but wrestlers like him come and go quite a lot. I think it takes something really special for someone to be remembered like Hogan, so Cena would have to keep his popularity as high as it is now for years to come to become a legend like Hogan. I haven't watched wrestling in like a year though so it isn't my place to predict things like that.

I know what'll be a classic. Y2K and Dec 2012 :wall:

I wonder if Runescape will become a classic... Though the way its running, it'll probably continue being played by the masses in 50 years, rather than being a quiet game only the elders remember. :-k

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

June 6 2006 will be remembered, December of 2012, Runescape maybe, World of Warcraft, Michael Phelps, Barry Bonds*, Patriots will be remembered because they lost the Superbowl  .

There's no way people like Phelps and Barry Bonds will be famous in 100 years. Someone is bound to get 10 gold within a few Olympics and Barry Bonds is just a sports star.

People don't even remember half of the presidents anymore :x .

Nobody will ever win more than 9 golds. Unless they're some sort of superhuman swimmer, because that's basically the only sport in which 10 events is even remotely possible.

100,200,400,800,1500,5000,10000,marathon will never be done, nor will a sprints combo in track and field.

Pokemon!

Geodude was always my favorite. At least he will always be remembered by me. <3:

[hide=]geodude.jpg[/hide]

pokemon will never have a chance to be remembered as a 'classic' because it will never stop making new versions.

I'm expecting a topaz version, an aquamarine version, a garnet version and a bronze version.

Seriously, when will they stop? The pokemon started to look like freaks after the gold/silver versions.

On topic: i'm so going to teach my grandchildren (assuming i have any) about when 50 years ago, there was this classical game called runescape.
