It's been designed as a more casual console to play. It's easy to set up, easy to pick up and play, and very easy to have fun with. That's why it's popular. Hey, if you don't like it, then don't use it. Not a loss to Nintendo...they're selling hundreds, even thousands maybe, Nintendo Wii's every day.

Lol. I just saw a post like this in a different thread, but do people orgasm because their favourite company is making money?

I refuse to let anyone mess up the USA with the communist beliefs.

Since when was Japan communist? At least the rest of America can make a distinction between China and Japan...

It's not that Nintendo is catering to kids. It's just that they're catering to non-gamers.

This argument annoys the hell out of me. What on Earth is a 'gamer' in your eyes? A gamer isn't just someone who sits in front a TV screen shooting people's brains out on an FPS - a gamer is someone who uses computer games as a form of escapism.

It's like developing a new style of trainers and then saying, "Oh, well they're just not catering for sportmen" because they were only designed for a tennis player. It's a crass generalisation.

I am a gamer, and I love Nintendo games (including the recent games). SSBB is amazing. MK Wii isn't as good as DS, but much better than DD. Twilight Princess wasn' as good as OoT, then again, only a couple of games are. Super Mario Galaxy was a great game. Super Paper Mario wasn't bad either. Advanced Wars is a great game.

I don't care if Nintendo do aim their games at children - that's exactly what I like about them. You make it sound like we should all hang ourselves in shame for it. God forbid I play a computer game for fun as opposed to guns and violence.

Someone who goes on Xbox Live or Playstation Network and plays an fps.

why does it have to be an FPS? why does it have to be a console? why cant a person who play WoW be a gamer? why can't a person who play sins of a solar empire be a gamer?

in my eyes a gamer is a person who enjoys video games and plays them to the fullest of their abilities

Nah we call those people wannabees.

Hah. Fullest to their abilities? Abilities get you nowhere in video games. You need Uber skillz or you aren't a gamer. Games weren't invented for entertainment. They were invented for people to be better than others by owning them. /sarcasm

Nintendo is bringing waay to much Japanese culture into the USA. At least Sony keeps it in their country. I mean what the hell is a "yoshi".

Sharing culture's a good thing. While I believe cultures should also be kept separate at a most basic level, there's nothing wrong with a bit of mixing it up.

NO. I hate when foreigners come and try to meix in their values. We are America dammit, we are our own culture. I refuse to let anyone mess up the USA with the communist beliefs.

*No offense meant to any communists or foreigners*

[bleep] hell. Sorry man. I just lost it there.

But yes, even with those games, the majority still cater to non-gamers. Just look at their marketing for god's sake!

Sure, but this does not subtract from the handful of quality games Nintendo still continue to produce. People will always look at the originals with some sense of nostalgia, that's only natural.

IMHO, it's not Nintendo's obsession with a few franchises that's making the quality of games in general lower, or their new drive to appeal to females and younger gamers, but the concept of online play being used as a substitute for offline gameplay. I would rather spend 40 hours doing a FF or a Tales of Symphonia, over spending 40 hours online on SSBB or MK Wii any day.

My main point in this thread is that it has been written by someone who clearly does not understand what gaming means to those of us who don't go on XBL and shoot people all day, so I would kindly appreciate it if he stopped judging our games in such an ignorant manner when we don't judge his choice of games.

Nintendo doesn't like violence.

Anyways, Nintendo aims at the working population. They see that the majority of people want a release from their real job, from their life. They go after this with relaxing, non-strenuous gaming. I've never gotten mad like I do when I die for idiotic reasons or die 10 times in a row in a FPS, or MMO. Nintendo makes relaxing, fast-paced games. They are fun. They don't require skill, or the majority don't, and when they do, it only takes 10 minutes of playing to get the basics down, and perhaps a few days to get the rest all packed in and playing at top performance. Why is this? Because working people, or adults don't have the time or patience to take weeks or months of playing a game. Also, did I mention the games are FUN. There's no grinding, or frustration from others. It's about the in-game experience. Everything is fun to do.

Nintendo really isn't for the die-hard gamers who want constant action, but Nintendo is definitely for those who want puzzles, and intriguing brain twisters. It's a break from the intense, blood pressure increasing games, and I love that.

Also, you are totally wrong about SSBB, I don't know if you even played the series for more than a week. SSBB is the best fighting game since Street Fighter. Counters, Yomi Layers, Play Styles, Unique & Somewhat Balanced characters, requires no leveling or grinding to be good. The only divider is skill, not levels. Which is why it owns.

Honestly, Sony is the only gaming company 100% going for the hardcore or veteran gamers.

ya what he said, whenever I have played the Wii I found it fun, relaxing and reminded me of my pre-competitive self ::'

Exactly.

I have XBL, i play Cod4 and Battlefield:BC,and i will soon buy Too Human.

But i also play Mario Kart Wii and Ocarina of Time.

Why?

THEY ARE FUN. There is no need to blow someone head off to have fun. Nintendo marketing may not be what you like. But they don't care, they can live without you. It's all about the fun, not the graphics, not the online play, not the media capabilities. The Wii is the only gaming console on the market, the 360 and the Ps3 are media centers.

I'll chose Mario Kart over Halo/MGS4 any day.

I don't really care if Nintendo targets a younger audience. What I do have a problem with is how they essentially remake the same game over and over and over. The mario series has had about 50 million different versions. Why not just branch out a little more instead of remaking Mario/Zelda/Metroid over and over?

Also, heres how to tell Nintendo is for children, when they release a FPS and everything is either a pillow or a marshmallow.

So Resident Evil, Dead Rising, and Manhunt are for children . I know they're not fps, but still.

Edit: Almost forgot about metroid prime 3. It is an fps and I don't recall there being any pillows/marshmallows in it.

Of course, because we Americans strictly follow the traditions and celebrations of the Native Americans, right? [/sarcasm]

Our culture is DEFINED by foreign influences. Besides, I doubt a cute little dinosaur thing called Yoshi will lead our nation to becoming communist.

Oh course not. It will lead to terrorism though! We have reason to believe Al-Quasadilla has been buying video games from nintendo to create yoshi-themed nukeyouler weapons. Taxes must be increased to fund extra security to secure our liberties!

Its offical. Mlbfan is just a ignorant kid who listens to his conservative father on whatever he says. I bet he's one of those X-box Halo fanboys we all loath on X-box live. Either we erase Nintento off the map or make X-Box the new measures of counter-terrorism.

The last time I posted something on another forum about my hatred for another console was when I was 10 and was angry at my friend for saying his PS2 owned my gamecube.

And I love how Mlbfan stated about how he sold his Wii because he's not a 5-year-old. He also says how online for the Wii is horrible. Then he goes ahead and says he's not bashing the Wii.

Sure, the Wii has its flaws. I have to admit that While SSBB is one of the best games I've played, it's online is horrible. You can't make friends because you don't know who they are, you can't communicate, and there's no prize for beating other players. That doesn't mean the Wii's online is bad altogether. I enjoy Mario Kart Wii's online. You can see who the players are, you gain ranking and thus respect from other players when you win many games. The only thing I find annoying is you can't communicate, but looking at how so many people are ranting about noobs on X box live abusing their microphone priveliges, it may be a good thing.
