josh181830
I remember when I still went to grade (elementary) school no one had insults like "stupid" or "shut up", but I remember getting in trouble cause I called someone "big head". However, today a 5 year-old, pre-kindergarten kid called me a "pain in the [wagon]". I was pretty surprised how a 5 year old even knows how to use that. -.-

scootlaboot
They expanded their vocabulary? Good for them. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person. Range_This11
Have them expand it in an intelligent manner. Younger generations have no respect for age whatsoever. It's getting quite sickening if you ask me. I'm not saying kids need to "speak when spoken to", but I'd like to see them at least know not to smart off to an adult. It comes from the parents not teaching them discipline. I know I'm going to teach that to my children someday, and they'll be better for it. Yes I am surprised how he said that to me when he hasn't even learned how to read yet. I mean, if it were a high-schooler or a middle-schooler, I wouldn't be AS surprised.. Lenin64
Kids these days are learning this foul language from all the violent video games and horrible television that they- ok, I can't finish this with a straight face. If children are swearing, it's the parent's fault fro not doing something about it and keeping their children from breaking out of societal taboos. Command the Murderous Chalices! Drink ye harpooners! drink and swear, ye men that man the deathful whaleboat's bow- Death to Moby Dick!BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! InkofDeath
It's not so much that they know the words, but how they use these words. Like I knew most of the swear words or so by Grade 1. Did I use them? No, I didn't even know they were bad. I didn't say them because I was told not to, and I'd get into trouble if I used them. To me, I'm always surprised when someone younger than 7 uses any type of swear word. It seems as I got older, the younger the age of those using these words. Keeps on surprising when I'm finding out that Elementary kids are starting to use drugs at grade 5 now. 7 years ago when my sister was in High School kids were only starting to use drugs by grade 10/11. Sad in my opinion.

I'm not respected by younger generations, and although I'm not exactly an adult, I remember that I would never talk down to someone my size when I was in elementary school. Some kids were using language me and my friend had only just learned, and we were literally about to beat them. Then we realized they were third graders. And their teacher was watching. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Sad in my opinion. I totally agree. There were kids my last year of high school (last year) that were in 8th freakin' grade and already were in troube with the cops for drinking and were also out of sports for a good amount of time. I live in a town of 2,600 people so it's not like there's a lot of deviance from the "norm" here. I didn't start drinking until after Junior year and these 13 year olds are already drinking. They have shown up to some parties I've been at and we told them to get the hell out of there. They're not old enough to make that decision but are making it because they think it'll gain them acceptance with older kids. I think kids these days are so obsessed with acting older than they are that they miss the innocence that childhood really is. Since there has been public schooling in America, high school kids have been drinking, but I really have not seen middle schoolers drinking since the start of this century. Hell, when my parents were in school, most Seniors were of age to drink, and most Juniors were 1 year off. jackattack
^^ That reminds me of the drug video we watched in like sophomore year. It had a bunch of little kids talking about how they would go into the bathroom and smoke weed. I was sitting there wondering what kind of school they went to. I'm 14, i can read as well as a junior in college and i spent most of my summers studying, in fact just this summer i got 1.5 high school credits and 9th grade hasn't even started for me. I choose to do all of that not my parents, I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions. you can't tell a 5 year old to not swear and then swear 5 minutes later and you can't tell a 13 year old stop breaking the law and potentially harming themselves when your doing the exact same thing! OT: that 5 year old using that language obviously has some sort of issue, whever its poor parenting or a medical problem (such as ADD)

From what I've seen of you, I'd bet against it too. you can't tell a 5 year old to not swear and then swear 5 minutes later and you can't tell a 13 year old stop breaking the law and potentially harming themselves when your doing the exact same thing! Yes, you can. An adult can be in the middle of drinking a beer and at the same time scold his son for doing so. Illegality as well as relative maturity:age correlations support the suppresion of rude language and drinking among minors. The rude language/cussing [the topic at hand] because society intends for kids to retain innocence at a young age, to teach them goodness as well as booklearnin' to help them grow proper and whatnot, the drinking to keep the immature from negatively affection society [drunk driving, etc.]. A teenager should not handle alcohol if they can not use it properly. In much the same way, a child* should not handle cussing if they can not use it properly. Understood? *or rather, anyone, but that's a debate for another thread that's probably been posted at least twelve times anyways. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. If your dad said "Don't drink it's bad for you" then proceeds to open up a beer he's contradicting himself. That is the reason why young cildren are swearing, they constantly hear adults saying "Don't swear it's bad" then hear older children swearing away.
