Teachers Carrying Guns

ever heard of depression?

teachers dont make much and most of them arent married. especially if the students in the teachers class are disrespectful, its easy to be pushed to the edge.

Then why are over 90% (estimated) of school shootings committed by students instead of teachers, who could far more easily access guns? This wouldn't be the straw that punched Julia Roberts in her face.

Why should they carry guns? Why not stop the problem before it starts by giving every troubled child help and keep an eye on them, rather than hoping arming teachers will end the problem?

[hide=]

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

They might not make much money, but they do get 3 months off and once they're tenured, it's a very secure job.

most teachers ive talked to complain of having 3 months off, and usually get other summer jobs.

Still, the 3 months justifies the lower pay. If a teacher really wants more money, they can get a summer job.

Yeah they do usually get other jobs, but why on earth would a person become a teacher if they hate so much the three months off and such low pay as you say they do? Could it be because they love to teach? Or maybe it's because they love the subject they're teaching. Surely if they were such upstanding intellectuals they could have taken a much easier road to a job with more pay and better scheduling. Some teachers that I know take summer jobs at UPS. Because of the pay? Not at all, but rather because UPS gives amazing benefits in healthcare and insurance. It's all in how you look at it. If you want to say that you don't get paid for 3 months and mope about it, fine. But if you look at it as an opportunity to take some time off to be with your family or to take vacations, then you might have a little better outlook on life. I don't know of many jobs that pay upwards of $30,000 per year out of college, yet still give 3 months off. Many teachers take paid coaching positions within the district which allows them to get paid and stay involved in some of their past sports they were in and many others complete a master's degree to get even more salary. Those are all reasons why I'm definitely becoming a high school teacher.

Yeah those Texans are just a bunch of stupid redneck hillbillies aren't they? You are so much better than them magekillr.

The only thing I can think of is that they should have to wear police style trick holsters in case a student tries to take the gun.

Better in what way? It's a known fact that states like Utah and Texas are gun clingy. Should I have made an allusion to the death penalty too? Or would that not have been fitting...?

There's so many unqualified teachers in America as it is to TEACH, and to give them the ability to carry GUNS?!?!! Asinine...

Ya Utah and Texas are gun clingy. They are also pretty religious states. Those people must be pretty stupid. Probably all the inbreeding that goes on there. They are just savages. They just love killing. I'm sure all of them fit your image of the 'gun culture'. I'd bet that if someone broke into there house and was carrying away their t.v. they would just walk up behind them and blow their brains out. Probably happens all the time. Damn trigger happy rednecks.

*looks at topic title... quakes in fear.... reads link... feels better about teachers carrying guns and wants to be a teacher... feels sorry for any students she;ll ever have.*

Time to start looking at religious schools...
It's a well-known fact that most Christian schools (especially Catholic) have ninja throwing stars in the shape of crosses. Either that or they just use rulers to break your knuckles or whatever. Those are weapons, too, y'know. They're cheap, but deadly.

Would you rather have a teacher fire a gun in class, which could possibly kill you instantly or just give a flesh wound? OR would you rather be sliced and diced by ninja throwing stars and have a definite bloody, slow death, or possibly just be burned at the stake?

Burned at the stake please!!!!!!!!!!! =P~

If teachers and students start carrying weapons I will home school my kids (if i have any). I wouldn't send them to school knowing they can be shot by a 14 year old who gets mad over someone shoving in the hallways.

I mean on the spot. People are unpredictable, but it helps to figure out what they'll go if they have more "convenience" in their options.

Schools get shooting threats and bomb threats all the time, almost daily is the statistic I believe. And I'll try to find the statistic, but I think two children bring a gun to school every day here in the States.

Nationwide. I couldn't find those statistics, but here it shows that there's one school shooting where at least one person is killed every month of the usual school year:http://youthviolence.edschool.virginia.edu/violence-in-schools/national-statistics.html

Guns maybe overdoing it, but all teachers should be allowed to carry tasers.

Guns should only be allowed at bad schools with lots of assaults on teachers, murder, drugs, etc.

Normally I am strongly second ammendmant, pro gun rights, whatever you want to call it. Teachers having guns at school probably shouldnt be allowed. I mean sure there are some good theoretical reasons such as stopping a mass killing, but there are bigger problems I would say. The main concern of course is that a teacher would go psycho and would be able to shoot a bunch of kids instead of just punching one.

Schools should have some law enforcement on hand at all times to deal with problems, and 1 member of law enforcement should be able to deal with any one attacker. If more then one person at once enters a school with guns intending to massacre I dont think a few half trained teachers are going to do much other then cause more accidental damage. Yes I realize that many of them would be perfectly competant with the weapons but some would not.

One other thought on this matter. While I do disagree with giving teachers guns maybe a logical thing to do would be giving teachers a basic self defense course of a day or two? Sure all the self defense in the world wont stop a bullet but a day or two of hwo to stop an attacker could prevent knife and fist attacks.

edit--post above got added. Tasers would also be an interesting thing to consider and could be looked into

Orthodoxy is unconciousness

the only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

I can't believe so many people distrust a teacher's mental capacity. No one seems to be bothered that emotionally unstable students are bringing guns into schools all the time yet are first to say that a teacher would snap and kill a class full of kids :? .

giving guns to mentally stable teachers would be a good idea, if they knew how to use them. if some of you dont know, gun handling is not a prerequisite to teaching. with an already low budget for school supplies and salaries, adding a gun training program is very unlikely.

even a teacher who knows how to handle a gun will be reluctant to shoot a student for fear of the repercussions. plus, its much harder to kill another human than hollywood makes it out to be.

The system in place at that tiny little town is that it's okay for a teacher to do it, and I wouldn't doubt they had to have had training. I don't even think anybody has even signed up for it, as its optional.

Who says they have to kill them? In places where school shootings are more common (urban areas) a teacher with gun training will easily be able to disarm a teenager without said training. A shot to the leg will easily disable a teenager. Ever been shot? Yeah, it'd be tough to take aim and kill that jerk that called you a buttface yesterday.
