September 8, 200817 yr Gaming is more like a hobby than a career for me, don't really want to be in the industry but I wouldn't mind being a contributor to a gaming magazine or website.
September 8, 200817 yr I want to get into game design/development if i dont make it there then i want to move into IT programming or something along those lines i havnt told anyone about this, it sounds stupid, i mean my friends are talking about becoming builders or cops or something and saying i want to be a game developer sounds stupid, like i said i wanna be an astronaut thanks to mitsubishi64 who made this sig

It's your opinion of yourself. You afraid they gonna just go 'get the hell away from our lunch table.' Ponies!

More than a cop I"m sure. :P "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
September 8, 200817 yr There was a time where I wanted to be involved with game design, etc but now I really don't care for it. I went through the ropes: programming, 3d modeling/adimation/texturing, all the conceptual stuff for pre-production, etc. And at the end of the day I looked at it, the job opportunities and decided that it's not worth my time when it's not a garuntee to land me a job. You have to be extrodinarily good when applying for a job in this sector more than the rest of IT, at least when dealing with the modeling side of things. It's not possible to be an expert at modeling and animating and textures, so you need to pick one and get damn good at it and always have examples of your work available online. At least people who focus on textures can stick with low-poly shapes for things like crates, buildings, vehicles. It's the modelers and animators who have the toughest slog; animators more so if they can't model very well and don't have access to low-poly models to use. You can't get away with using just the animation skeleton since rigging is critical to success. I really hate to burst anyone's fantasy bubble about the industry but that's exactly what I was told at university.

I definitely know what I'm getting into here. :P My degree is technically on the 2D side of things (web and the likes) but I'm trying to focus on 3D a lot as well. It certainly is difficult though, but there are a lot of opportunities for a 3D artist.
September 9, 200817 yr Uhh yeah, I'm making a SNES graphics-MRPG (Multiplayer Role-Playing Game, it won't be massive and no internet is needed except for download)
September 9, 200817 yr My pretty close freind rob took a full time course in game design and hes been sending examples of his work to media molecule, the british based developers of little big planet. He aspires for a job there and he has expressed a keen interest with them which i think is pretty cool. I would like a job in gaming but not in development, but rather something around the development side.I dont want the 19 hours a hard coding that a good quality game can demand during deadline...and weve all heard of the EA fatbabies stuff. I dont think anyones said anything about a career in gaming other than games development like journalism or media, if i do use my qualifications to pursiue journalism i could theoretically do games journalism.Anyone thought about it? EDIT:After talking to my freind about his experiences with jobs in game design etc, people who have had a past with game modsalways bring out a keen interest in prospective employers, as far as i know because you have gone out of youre way to understand the games architecture and mechanics and you can independently create fixes for usability problems in games.

September 13, 200817 yr Im slightly torn as to what I want to do in the industry. I live near a big city and, quite conveniently, a few game producers reside there. I'd like to be - essentially - a games tester. Though theyre known as quality assurance strictly. Perhaps get to Lead QA and be one of those people who pretty much presents games to reporters or the like. OR; Plan B. Bother to actually learn Japanese to a high level and translate. Though this may mean I might have to move to somewhere like America or atleast somewhere with bigger games companies. Or even then I could do it backwards and translate games from English to Japanese in Japan. But what do we make over here that they cant already do better over there? Maybe ill just botch it all up. Maybe ill be stuck working in Tescos for the rest of my days. Theres some spillages in aisle 8 with my name all over them.
September 13, 200817 yr Well I have begun walking the prophesized path to greatness. I have taken my first steps in the world of "Computer Animation and Simulation". I am new at this, and am just learning some of the basics right now "Python, and Alice". I hope to learn everything I can, and perhaps one day make the cut to join a fine company... or if I am crazy enough start my own. September 13, 200817 yr I'm hoping to be an engineer and help design the models for games, if not, join rockwell or something after I get my masters degree  Drafting III Sophmore year ftw \ Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne. Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~ DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!
September 14, 200817 yr another little setback for me would be that i live in australia and im guessing most gaming companies are in the USA or Japan, i might research companies in australia actually edit: 700 post! lol took me long enough thanks to mitsubishi64 who made this sig

September 15, 200817 yr There's going to be a huge surge in the number of people "pursuing" careers in gaming, so no. Vienna Raszyn Warsaw Klushino
September 16, 200817 yr I was thinking of designing 3D environments for games or programming if ever learn to program..... Right now I'm working on a game using RPG Maker 2003.
September 16, 200817 yr Yeah. I am hoping to be on the front line. Ready for action. Keyboard in one hand and Redbull in the other. I plan on becoming either a Content Developer or actually coding. A Content Developer would be cool as I'd come up with ideas and then make them. Actually coding would have me making other people's ideas. I <3 Gears of War 2. Add me on Xbox Live and mention you are from Tif :D
September 16, 200817 yr Would certainly love to! That's a dream job, like working as a chocolate taster! But I doubt I seriously will. Competition is going to be tremendous though, with so many people wanting to enter the market, and many of them are going to be uber talented.
