The Truth: Now "Nerdy"...

I was walking around Runescape today wearing ringmaster top and hat to look fancy... Someone started following me in a bank, and he asked me what shirt I was wearing. I said "Ringmaster", and then he stopped talking. Then, he started saying "quest" over and over again. That kinda confused me, and eventually he said "Do you get in from a quest?" Then some dope chimes in and says "Yeah, it's from a quest," or something along those lines.

 

 

 

Then I say "No it's not from a quest! It's from the circus! Don't spread information that's false!" Then some all high and mighty level 124 wearing barrows and expensive stuff (to protect himself from the bankers) comes and says. "omg cheefoo like little kid". Frankly, I had no idea what he meant. Did he mean I like little children? No, I'm not some creepy old guy...

 

 

 

Then he said "you nerd, you get angry at someone for not knowing something??" or something along those lines. I said, "No, I just don't like when people send false information. It confuses everyone, and that's bad, right?" Then he goes on saying "rofl nerd". After messing around in my bank for a few minutes, I go up to the guy, who is walking back and forth, and ask "Explain exactly why I'm a nerd, again?" Then, I suppose because he had nothing to say because he noticed what he said didn't make all too much sense, he logged out.

 

 

 

Did I do something wrong, or did he? Maybe it was a misunderstanding? Would you really expect a level 124 calling someone a "nerd", besides himself? Is it really that insulting to get a little mad at someone for telling someone something that isn't true, especially when they weren't even in the conversation anyway? Should I be offended by all this?

 

 

 

Please answer one of my questions, or a few. I'd like to see your view on this story, because it's really bugging me.

Hes just ignorant and likes to see people spread false stuff. Just ignore them and move on. He's also probably jealous at your circus items.

On Topic: Just ignore him, people will find any excuse for them to flame you in RuneScape, and always will. If you got the message across to the person who asked, that is all the matters.

P.S. I love ringmaster clothes, there's always someone complimenting me, heheh. I even go to the Duel Arena and free for all Bounty Hunter with them, they're just that cool.

I must admit, I would have probably reacted much worse than you did. You just experienced a classic 'noob' scenario.

 

 

 

Don't be offended, nothing ever gets done if someone is offended, just tell yourself that you acted many times better than that guy did. However, don't try to explore the literal meaning of 'nerd', it's devolved in the same way 'noob' has, into a generic and usually groundless insult.

However, when you see a level 3 call someone a noob, something seems wrong. Even though most wouldn't even call them a noob, they could still be classified as one. Even though the word has lost some of its base meaning, it's still there. Same thing with "nerd". If a very high level calls someone a nerd (once again, even if it isn't for it's base definition), they could be classified as one too.

 

 

 

I would have never called him a nerd, but if he calls me one for no reason, then he might as well be one, for the real meaning, and just for plain insult.

He's what people call an "arrogant high level". It's one of those immature kids who got a high level and thinks he can say even more stupid stuff than before because he's a higher level. I've met level 138's who are like that :wall: Don't worry about people like that, just ignore them, it wasn't your fault at all.

Being a nerd is great! You can use proper grammar, words that are more than three syllables, and you get a free pocket protector upon joining the NPS (Nerd Protection Syndicate)!

I like to call people like them those guys with egos proportionate to their combat levels. They think they have every right to criticize anyone else, and even if they end up looking like buffoons, they keep at it or log out. One guy in particular who absolutely hates Summoning and mocks anyone who even seems to have touched Summoning comes to mind. I don't see him much at his usual haunt though anymore, maybe he quit. :pray:

No, not really. People like bill gates are huge exceptions. There were studies showing that employers are much more likely to promote charismatic and confident employees than promote quiet intelligent people, even if the intelligent people did a 10x better job than the charismatic ones. You could be a real slacker, but as long as you're charismatic and confident you'll be picked over the nerds. The whole nerds get good jobs is a huge myth. People who are most likely to succeed are people who are both intelligent, charismatic, and social at the same time. That's why I always say it's a very good thing to take some dramatic arts/theater classes, because that's going to be useful in pretty much all areas of life. Even outside of the workplace, quiet intelligent people are always overlooked in favour of the loud, albeit dumber, ones.

 

 

 

Not to mention - this is all based on the assumption that nerds are more intelligent than normal people. Most geeks are just as intelligent as anybody else. Average intelligence plus below-average sociability, with that combinaison might aswell put a "fail" sign on your back.

 

 

 

There was also another study that shows employers prefer hiring balanced employes rather than people extremely good at one thing, but incredibly lacking in others. This is yet another bad thing for nerds.

Just because i play Runescape doesnt make me a nerd but caring what someone across the world abusing me on this game, running to a fansite and posting about how hurt i am and then waiting for the whole site to jump on the bandwagon......
