I (thought) I had Diabetes (discussion changed)

So anyway when i got up I retook my blood test and it came out 87mg/dll. I ate breakfast and took it again and it came out 127mg/dll. Three hours later it came out 91mg/dll. My mom, a 30year diabetic assured me im fine for now, it was just the sugars from the food i ate plus i had 2 cups of coffee + cream and sugar at work (I work at BK) We called my gram (A registered nurse for 55 years) and she agreed. I will go for a blood test Nov 1 (ealiest time the labs open) for a true 12-hr fasting blood test, and until then we will monitor it ever day, if it begins to [bleep]e, im going directly to the ER.

So now instead lets talk about diabetes in general, if you have it share your tips, experiences. \'

[hide=]Well its very very common in my family and I believe I've contracted it. Im here, urinating pretty frequently, always cottonmouthed and "overweight". So tonight I decided to check my blood sugar becuase im starting to worry, and sure enough it was 207 mg/dll, This was about an hour after eating (i have 4 waffles w/ butter and syrup) and a vitamin water. I will talk to my mom tomorrow and get an appointment but i cannot believe it... Hopefully its a false alarm but my life so sucky right now i might as well just accept it.

Anyone else here diabetic who can give me advice in case i do get it? :(

What i mean is for others to share their experiences or thoughts on having the disease and to give me general lifestyle tips from thouse who have had it awhile that arent medical, more kind of regular.

And YES, i will ask my mom to make me an appointment for a doctor tomorrow.[/hide]

207 mg/dL is about 11.5 mmol/L. That's a bit of a worry an hour after a meal. I think it's best you see a doctor.

Thankfully these days it's a relatively manageable disease, I'm sure your family and doctor can help you out with anything you need to know. Also plenty of decent info on the net, e.g:

Posting on forum on the internets probably isn't the best idea but get it checked out just to be sure.

Diabetes is genetic, so chances are you do have it.

It's not that bad, lots of people manage to live perfectly happy lives with diabetes.

Joke:

What's big, grey, sits at the end of your bed and takes the piss out of you?

Pfftt haha. Im kinda figuring it wont be that bad, drink more "sugar free'/"diet" things, (I already drink only diet soda/teas and sugar free others. Not so much candy, take a pill (hopefully) once a day (or if im unlucky, a shot -_-) Even then I can still have the occasional Coke or whatnot, and plus i plan to start exercising more (helps alot) so i will loose some weight.

I hope you're not afraid of needles...

Diabetes doesn't mean they have to have needles.

Yes, but still you have to puncture your finger to test your blood. ;)

Honestly, my grandfather has diabetes, and so does my mother, grandmother, great grandmother, grandfather and several aunts and uncles, so I'm at a high risk for diabetes genetically. I'm not really overweight, so I don't think I will contract it until I'm older.

I have a phobia of needles going into me. Ill tell you know that it doesn't even hurt in the slightest.

I don't have diabetes although my dad has it. I'm trying to avoid too many sweets to keep my blood sugar low enough. But yeah it's genetic, so you might have it. It's not too bad, my dad just gets those little shots each day. He has type 2. If I'm not mistaken, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people age 20-80, so just keep it under control.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

at least cancer doesnt run in your family.

No but Heart Attacks,Heart Disease,Strokes run in it :o .

They run in mine too, both sides, so you're still lucky to have something that doesn't cause death as often as heart diseases.

type 2 is genetic. type 1 is a lot of crap. there is some genetic parts to it but there's also enviromental factors and a bunch of other stuff. I know 'cause I've had type 1 for about 6 years now, on the insulin pump for four. My cousin was recently diagnosed as well, two years ago, she's on the pump now too.

So if you have questions about it I can probably answer them.

also: http://www.jdrf.org is a really good site, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation website. Although it's mostly type 1 research.
