Bring Back the "Ever Caught Them" Thread

I have never heard of this "X rated text" that the mods/admins speak of. You have to realize that you cannot scar someone from simple text. This forum is 13+, most all the people have had Sex Ed and know what the reproductive parts are. This is a pretty sad statement that Tipit does not allow this while on Zybez this thread and similar threads are allowed.

While I personally disagree with hard-[wagon] Off-Topic (some moderation is appropriate, but I do think that some of the new policies go a little overboard on occasion), you cannot compare Tip.it to other fansites. Maybe I made this up, but I always recall Zybez having a "PG-13 rating." Tip.it does not.

 

 

 

As stated in section 1.9 - Volunteering Personal Information of the Tip.it Forum Rules, Tip.it is a G-rated forum. I disagree with this rating and probably like you, do not feel it is appropriate for a forum where only users over the age of 13 are allowed, but I won't go into that again.. either way, the mods and admins have made it clear that the G-rating is sticking.

 

 

 

Now none of the above means that I agreed with the "Ever caught them" thread, I was just looking at your suggestion from a more general point of view. While parts of the thread were okay, there were always parts that were way too inappropriate for Tip.it in my opinion.. and you're joking if you actually think the mods can successfully keep such a thread under tight moderation. It just doesn't work. No matter how many times the mods say, "Keep it clean," or "No extreme intimate details," people always push the limit. If you can't enjoy Tip.it without topics about sex anyway, maybe this isn't the place for you. I'm all about people having a good time in Off-Topic, but there are so many more ways to achieve that than through topics related to sex and sexual encounters. Sometimes I do feel like the mods need to lighten up in there (not because of their personal judgments but through the policies they have to abide by), but not in this respect.

To be honest, the thread that you gave as an example is a thread that contains mature discussion over something that is sometimes quite controversial. In the "Ever caught them" thread, it's not a mature discussion at all and more like a diary of sexual encounters (sometimes in extreme detail).

There actually used to be a thread on Zybez called "Porn: Do You Look At It?" it got to like 17 pages and then no one posted on it and it got bumped off the forums (they don't keep threads that fall off page 7)

If a topic doesn't have discussion value they (mods) post somthing like "no" then lock it) While the moderation on Tipit is way to strict, I mean if I sneeze I get a ban :roll:. Zybez had few good threads, but of those few good threads they are 100 times better than threads on tipit. For example Zybez has a "Music Sharing Thread" Where you post links to full album music downloads. As stated above its ok do talk about sex/drugs there. I like the normal tipit users (the not staff people). Since most the people I talk to on here make me look intelligent due to their lack of knowledge on what is being discussed :|

As Tripis and Sloter have said, if you do not like the rules on Tip.It, and that threads are locked/closed because they are inappropriate, then just leave and go to another board of your preference that is more 'slack'.

 

 

 

And personally, the ever caught them thread never actually discussed how people caught there loved ones, it was about a diary of sexual encounters (sometimes in extreme detail).. Last time I checked, your sexual activities are not 'theirs'.

It is true no topic is taboo. It depends on which angle you take it from though. If you're talking about your own ridiculous escapades, the topic will get locked because of how people will describe explicit inappropriate events in detail. However, if the same topic, addressed as an issue, from a different angle than listing your stories was made, I think it would be acceptable. It all comes down to whether or not discussion is explicit description or debate. Then it's up to the mods' discretion whether or not the topic can continue on a mature adult level of discussion.

No. We've had enough of that crap. "Ever caught them" has no place on OT, whether you like it or not. As said, it is nowhere near G-rated, and just turns into a big mess. There was at least one permanent ban I know of that was influenced a lot by that thread. Some things are private for a reason.

 

And if you look I think you'll find that I'm not the only OT regular that is against it; I know several others are, but I'll let them speak for themselves.

 

I don't know why you and quite a few others keep pushing for it; It's something the Admins have decided against, and I'm quite sure it will stay that way for at least 8 months to a year, if not forever. A chance was given to keep it clean and within the rules, people lost that chance. The same goes for the Funny pictures thread. With 5 or so locks to that thread and its duplicates, and two bans that I know of, the Admins where being generous. They should have taken action months and months ago, in my opinion.

Knowing what reproductive parts are and discussing catching other people is totally different. This is a RuneScape fansite, not your local dating site. I personally see off topic as an extra, something there to accommodate those who don't play RuneScape and those who need something unrelated to RuneScape now and then. Asking for a thread about catching people to come back is ridiculous (considering there was a lot worse being discussed than the actual topic...).

I find it common sense to ban sexually explicit topics on a forum children may use. You are not using that forum correctly if you think banning topics such as those ruins it. I suggest you find another forum for discussing this type of behavior.

That is not a sad statement, by the way. Zybez is a very, very different forum. They say in the rules, "Zybez is not here to enforce the rules or RuneScape". Tip.it respects the rules, and any content that breaks them is removed.

 

It does not directly apply to this, but it says something about what kind of a community Zybez and Tip.it are.

Just a suggestion, time to be more generous with bans/warnings? Personally the only way I can see this coming to any sort of end is by being more authoritarian.

I personally find mature discussion over sex-related topics fine. If it becomes just an "oh I did this guy and this chick at the same time hahahahahahaha" kind of topic, the moderators are doing the right thing by locking it. If you wish to have a mature discussion about it, you won't or shouldn't face any problems.

I'm all for mature topics, but it seems people become immature on them. Just because a topic is mature doesn't mean whatever you post on there will be fine.

 

Also, people start boasting about what they've done, most of which is clearly bull. I find it a little pathetic that they need to prove themselves to an online community.

 

 

 

If a mature topic could be posting on with actual maturity, with no trolling, flaming or spamming, then it would be allowed. So far, very few of those topics have managed it. Of course the mods get the blame for locking them.
