While I was watching a video on YouTube, I decided to post a comment. I typed it out and clicked the button on the left. I heard audio of what I typed. I noticed that the left button was no longer the 'Submit' button, but an 'Audio Preview' button.

 

 

 

This caused me to question "Why?" Why is there a need for an audio preview button? Especially since it is where the submit button used to be, so I keep accidentally pressing it. Also, it doesn't read words right. 'I am' causes it problems with pronunciation. [if I typed "I am a boy"; it'd say "I a m a boy". It pronounces each letter.]

 

 

 

I don't know if anyone else noticed this new feature, but I don't really like it nor do I see a point. The preview button was good enough. It doesn't fix text errors as it reads words improperly causing me to look back for errors and seeing I had none. It just can't pronounce words correctly.

 

 

 

 

 

What do you guys think?

Blind people do use computers... Use your imagination. I've met such people even 10+ years ago when there was barely any help-software available for them.

 

 

 

It's not that hard to understand how a computer functions even if you don't see the monitor. You obviously can't see any video output, but people do listen to YouTube videos, have dotted QWERTY keyboards, voice recognition software, etc.

 

 

 

Really the only thing you can't do with a computer as a blind person is useless things like gaming (no matter how much you think they improve your coordination, unless you game for sport, it's a waste of time)... And well, you can't do graphics like paint/photoshop.

 

 

 

You can still listen to mp3's, listen to movies, download audio books, read/send emails, news, (text gets turned into MS Sam voice), maybe even play some games with rich audio/surround sounds so that you could navigate.

Well that isn't good. I clicked on the first video I saw, which happened to be the presidential debate. I typed in a bunch of cuss words just to have the computerized voice say them. But I accidentally pressed submit..

I think Youtube is using this to reduce expletive comments. You know, you type in a flame-filled swear-mongering rant at a youtuber with your volume rather up and your mother in the room, and all of a sudden it's played back at you "YOU FILTHY [expletive] MOTHER OF [expletive] CONSERVATIVE [expletive] LYING, STUPID, HEARTLESS PIECE OF [obscure expletive] NINNY-HEADED TWIT!!!" and your mother basically passes out. It might actually help.

 

 

 

EDIT: just tried it out, it's pretty screwed up for me. The voice talkes so quickly I can't understand anything, it sounds sort of like a high-pitched whoopee cushion. If I post a long comment, it doesn't say anything at all. GF audio button.

There is an app that reads everything to you. So, blind people go on google, which it tells them they are on, and it reads off the links the searched. It does most things like clicking in search boxes and it also formats web pages into text and hyperlinks that the blind person skims through with the arrow key.

 

 

 

Saw a video with that program. It was about a blind person working at google. He uses the app to finish his daily programming job.
