Hernet0
I remeber those days when my account usta be a lvl 20.... I rarely ran into a player between the lvls 50-90 who was helpful or even nice to me when I was a low lvl. Some people just aren't yet or never going to be mature and grow up. Whenever I run into someone like that I add to ignore and just... well ignore them. All throughout my time playing rs I helped someone out if I could even if it inconviniced me and I can proudly say so. :)
Hobgoblinpie
Noobs and newbs are different. Newbs have the mental capacity to understand they are wrong, and want to learn. A Newb is someone who has just started playing. Noobs have no mental capacity and can;t accept they are wrong. They will not under any circumstance be willing to learn anything from anyone, and often end up insulting you with 'your mother' jokes. A Noob can be someone who has just started playing (but with the attitude mentioned) or can be someone who has played for years. Newbs and Noobs denote two very different things, so not everyone was a noob at some point. So yes, The only person that loves a noob, is themself. However, Newbs/Newbies are fine. Newbs and Noobs denote two very different things, so not everyone was a noob at some point. So yes, The only person that loves a noob, is themself. However, Newbs/Newbies are fine. You got the definitions a little off, I'll fix them. Noob: Usually aged between the 9-15, as a result tend to be incredibly immature and are easily mislead by others without realising their wrongdoings. Commonly, they have been playing the game for a few weeks and have probably been treated poorly in the process, only being exposed to negative comments and harsh insults (often by other "noobs"). Therefore, they are complete jackasses to the wider community because they have no consideration for fellow players (that's what they have been subconsciously taught). Runescape was most likely their FIRST exposure to the internet. They view runescape strictly as a GAME and not a "social gathering", they believe that the game revolves around them (like would a normal 1P rpg). These "Noobs" can eventually progress and become more experienced, but they will still retain very negative attitutes towards others and could turn out to be too competititve for their own good. Newb: Usually aged 16+ (more-so mid 20s). These people have experience outside runescape (either chatting or other games) and have high respect for the people behind the avatars. If they are lucky, they are taken into a social group of more experienced players (being intellectually recognised) and are taught common game ethics and are offered much help to progress (thus loseing the title "newb"). If they are unlucky, they may frequently come into contact with "noobs" and be constantly put down and insulted for doing absolutly nothing wrong - this can ultimatly lead to a premature game-retirement OR (uncommonly) becomeing a "noob" themselves. Fairness
Noob: Usually aged between the 9-15 Newb: Usually aged 16+ (more-so mid 20s). No. As far as I'm aware the idiot/not idiot status has little to do with age - it has to do with the particular person, rather. And 16+ doesn't even play, much less be a newb. You're being watched. alfijane
Wow, I cant believe how many people are discussing Newbs/noobs... I feel like the Bono of Newbs, I'm gonna write a ballad. I get what you guys are saying well most of you, I understand now that most of the people who call me a noob are at heart noobs and I myself am a newb... who knew jargon could be so complex? I had some kid call me "stupid little lvl 40 girl" (which in turn makes me shout at the computer about feminism though not type it as I don't think he would understand what derogatory would mean.) I also had some very scary man follow me asking "Does the Noobie need a master" I really wish there was a way to kick people in the groin via the super information highway! As far as I can see through these posts, you guys consider this behaviour to be noobish in itself, which throws a whole twist into it. I'd love to do an ethnographic study on the social structure of Runescape, it would be so bizarre. Anyway, I stand tall and declare that I am a Newb... not a Noob! I agree, i'm over 16, but I still play regularly. Yes, I still have a life, but I enjoy Runescape as much as I did 4 years ago. Also, Alfijane add me, ok? I'm on often enough. I also agree with the point that GENERALLY kids age 9 - 15 are immature, and like to use the word 'noob' a lot. :wall: Also, i've been on these forums a lot, but never posted anything. Nirvana FTW! Friendyboy
In reply to compfreak847, yes I have read lord of the flies but I thought it was about how people when free of rules and social conform break down to their more baser instincts, partly to do with the survival of the fittest but more to do with pack mentality and a need for leadership even if it is warped, but critical analysis of literature is a very subjective thing, so I'm not saying your wrong! And your right that is just the way of the web... doesn't make it right though! In runescape, or any anonymous situation, people tend to do what they enjoy - which, given the demographics of runescape players, seems to be to look out for themselves and not care about others. It could be even simpler then that - I had a level 33 running around following me begging to be my friend a few days ago. I said no and teled - many previous experiences have taught me that random newbs want me to hold their hand, come running whenever a big, nasty level 100 insults them, and give them free stuff. As for LOTF, I am using that as an example; I agree with quite a bit of it. The thread owner is complaining about being ignored, extinguished from play due to being new and unexperienced....and yet your giving an example of a player who wanted your help and was even wanting to be your friend to ignore him? hipocritical if you ask me! Your just proving your no better than the people calling others noobs! Why not give the level 33 a chance before passing judgement? I have people wanting to be my friends, I say yes. They may be after my wealth at first, but give them a point in the right direction, no one gets bothered by them again. 16x Black mask1x Dragon Chainbody1x Dragonic Visage32x Dragon BootsObsidian Drops:-13 x Cape/ 6 x Shield/ 6 x Maul/ 750+ Onyx Tips
Cheefoo
Dip s*** preteens is why I haven't been able to get to school in years. First, it started out with OCD, but after my idiot half-friend-hal-enemy found out, he started to think I was a [developmentally delayed]. He and his friends get together and go on Runescape just to insult me, it's really pathetic. I just ignore them now, but I don't even want to think about what those kind of people would be like in real life. I've heard rumors about me going around, so I'd be infamous if I went to the "normal school", so I'm not even going to bother with that. I'm going to a different school now (or at least trying to), but I still don't know how many [wagon] I'm going to run into. I have bad luck in everyone, especially with the people I meet. On the internet, it's really nothing. They don't know you, you don't know them, so they have no reason to say anything to you. If someone walked up to me in real life and started insulting me, I'd instantly aim for the groin. Too bad the internet hasn't evolved to that era yet, so just ignore those jerks. They're just trying to impress their friends by insulting someone online because they don't have the balls to do it in real life. Yet again, if they did, they'd lose theirs instantly if they were talking to me. Don't bother with them, walk away. They'll eventually give up, and figure that their whole "argument" is nothing more than pointless hate and false sense of superiority. Yomyth105
I agree with everything you have up on there. That is how the Runescape community is now and it is terrible. Personally everybody is too busy skilling rather then just chilling. and everybody makes fun of lower leveled people to gain self esteem. when noobs have questions they get laughed at or tricked... Then ppl complain why there r such worthless noobs in the community. Newbies r infact most of the time really nice ppl. If u ever meet a brand new player even if he is 10yrs old he is a nice person. maybe a bit slow at things but nice. Then they get corrupted by the community and start to beg, scam, ask for hot gfs pl0x etc.

TheDayRsDied
I really don't care if your a nub or not, you are on the Ignore list if you get too close, ask for any favors, or anything like that. Or, if you give me too many favors, or you are a little too nice, too. I generally just avoid making "friends" on runescape. My friends list is small, only has old-timers from the pre-wildy update that I used to buy and sell form. I still talk to them every so often, but rarely. I doubt my list has more than 5 people. When someone tries to "Be Friends" with me I usually put them on the ignore list right away.My ignore list probably has 200+ people. I consider it a little embarassing to be my age and still playing runescape anyway. I play it in private, when my GF can't see me, or anyone else. It's more of an addiction than anything since 12/10/07. Did I forget to mention that the Wildy update sucked? Oh yeah. The wildy update sucks. Penguinisme
Welcome to the Internet. Please leave your spelling and grammar skills, and your manners, at the door. What you have experienced is all over the Internet, and it's usually pretty annoying, so my advice is to throw a list of huge vocabulary words and watch the gears in their brains going as they try to figure out what you are saying. It's fun, and funny, and a great way to deal with the situation. I will now drizzle rage dressing onto the salad of fury!

Save us all. +2 ownt tbh Back OT: There's not anything else to say that hasn't been said already: 1. the internet is the indestructible shield against physical retaliation 2. most people who are on the internet are quite nice, bu the other roughly 1 half of the people are [special] 3. the person who makes a machine that let's people stab people through the internet will become ten time richer than Bill Gates (assuming he doesn't run out of customers) I do find your situation humorous, though. I was fishing sharks at Catherby for my relatively good memories when I was a lot younger (about 3 years ago) when I see too lvl 60s calling each other noobs. I will never forget the lower lvl one. He said, "My thieving lvl is 78". I checked hiscores and he was right  . I was thinking "ownt tbh" to the other guy who continued to assail him with "noob". If you' ve ever wondered why the higher lvls never "stand up" for the lower lvls, these are the two reasons: "if they don't respect you, they most likely won't respect me and stop" and sometimes "it's too damn funny" I still felt sorry for the bullied lower lvl, but in runescape and the internet in general, just because I was a higher lvl didn't mean I had power ove rhim. Speaking of which, that reminds me of the time when this lvl 90 was railing on this lvl 110 because they were skilling and the 110 wasn't talking. After about 5 lines of insults from the 90, the 110 speaks with a silver crown next to his name

8112204
The idiots probably call others "noob" on the internet because they don't have the guts to do so in real life, so to satisfy their needs of insulting another person they might openly act like a jerk on RS. They give RS a bad name, because a player might be insulted by someone else and think RS is just a place to call each other names. However there are actually some cases where a person is just so stupid they don't have another title other than "noob". Like those people who beg for "10k pl0x"....
