Well, the jobs I applied for required portfolio, they didn't care for accademic performance. I was out of uni ah... 7 months before I got a full-time IT job, before that it was mainly bits and pieces of things to build my portfolio more, nothing I would really consider solid.

GPA mainly matters if you want to get an internship. At least here it does.

Asassin, when did you start doing your UCAS app? They want us to have ours done by the start of year 13.

Yeah they told us that as well. I did bits and pieces over the summer but didn't really finish it until late September. I was an early entrant so I had the 15th October deadline anyway, and the school had an earlier deadline on top of that to check it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. The only thing that takes any real time/consideration is your personal statement. I think I nailed mine by the end but it took quite a few drafts and a lot of help.

Yeah, that's the correlation I've been seeing. Sometimes that's not even the case either, because a lot of internships are gotten like jobs (who you know).

once you have a degree no one cares what the GPA was

thats true with any qualification, no one cares about your high school marks, or your university average, just your previous work experience when you are applying for jobs

i would say even the first job you get isnt influenced too much by your scores, more whether you have leadership experience and can prove you are an honest hard worker. according to my brother and his friends you can change your scores and its not like your employer is going to check with your school or anything

i have travelled and worked for 2 summers and have good references, this looks good on my cv, despite my (current) B- average from university

NICKELEY102.png

I think my cumulative is about a 3.8, but on a different scale. No minus grades, and "+"s are .5.

This year, I'm not doing as well. Probably about a 3.6 for junior year.

The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.

Can somebody tell me what an 87% average would be in GPA?

I got my mid-term today, 4.0, but I am still grossly sickened by what I read on the back concerning the National Honors Society. And I need help. Badly. Very badly.

[hide=The Situation]The mid-term said that in order for a student to gain access into the NHS one must attain at least a 3.6 GPA (done) and have 16 hours of community service (no problem). Here is where the problem comes in. Last it said that students wishing to gain access must participate in FOUR extracurricular activities in their freshman and sophomore year (I'm a freshman). Unless in my free time playing drums and Halo count as extracurricular activities, I only play in two. Baseball and golf. I have no idea at all what the other two could possibly be, my third preference would be baskeball but the kids are waaay to good for me to make the team. so what the hell could the other 2 be?! I'm not interested in things like Spanish club at all. I could force myself to do something like choir.....but I'm completely lost on the fourth option. Damn it.[/hide]

Doesn't drumming count as extra curricular?

Playing an instrument here does for me.

I think you should just figure out all the groups/activities that you could possibly join, then pick out the 2 ones that you can stand to be part of.

GL for NHS.

Edit: I got my report back the other day.

You failed a biology final exam and still got 102% in that class? Where I go if you fail the final exam you basically lose 30% of your final grade. So the max you could get for the term would be 70-75.

I wish my school was more lenient about some stuff. If I mostly just slept in PE I'd have an automatic 65. Along with that at my school you can retake tests, but the highest percentage you can get on that re-take is the lowest passing grade the class had (honestly my school is either really tough or everyone who goes there is just really stupid. The highest freshman average is 94%, and the kid who has that is an insanely smart Chinese kid who spends all his free time doing schoolwork)

Meh, our teacher gave us a big extra credit project. So i didn't study for the final, because I knew I would be fine.

GPA is really relative. In highschool with AP classes factored in I had above a 4.0, but that just means I did well for my school. At U-M I have about a 3.4, which is alright. For med schools they expect 3.6 and above, but again, it depends somewhat on the university you're graduating from. GPA is really relative, but it probably is the easiest scale if you want to compare yourself to others.

Bit late of a reply, but I just thought I'd say we live in the same town :P

I seem to be the only one who hasn't taken AP classes. My school doesn't actually offer them.

I wish I could get a massive extra credit project, I really want to get my grades up.
