I like this site. It seems to for the most part support polyphasic sleep, but at the same time it is very unbiased. This is a much better read than those blogs you're offering.

Helping astronauts nap was the goal of a recent series of experiments funded by NASA in cooperation with the National Space Biomedical Research Institute. In those experiments, led by David Dinges, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 91 volunteers spent 10 days living on one of 18 different sleep schedules, all in a laboratory setting. The sleep schedules combined various amounts of "anchor sleep," ranging from about 4 to 8 hours in length, with daily naps of 0 to 2.5 hours.

 

 

 

To measure how effective the naps were, the scientists gave the volunteers a battery of tests probing memory, alertness, response time, and other cognitive skills throughout the experiment. They also measured things like core body temperature and hormone levels in blood and saliva, all of which fluctuate in a natural daily cycle known as a person's "biological clock."

 

 

 

They also found that some cognitive functions benefited more from napping than others:

 

 

 

"To our amazement, working memory performance benefited from the naps, [but] vigilance and basic alertness did not benefit very much," says Dinges.

This suggests that another polyphasic system works.

 

if i'm understanding that right they actually got 4-8 hours of sleep plus naps so it sounds like its further contradicting your theory.

 

My theory is that polyphasic sleep can work in a way that allows your body to gain the energy it needs in under 8 hours with few side effects. This supports my theory with some astronauts gettin 4 hours of sleep.

I enjoy my sleep so much, it what gets me through the day. After I'm out of bed I'm like kapow! kapow! I'll wake up the house by singing loudly. Ofcourse 20 minutes later when I'm at school, Ill be bored stiff.

 

But man do I love my dreams, I like the ones where you think youve gone through a day of your life and you go back to sleep.

 

But I haven't any strange dreams because I can't stop think about this girl :wall:

I have to account for your biases against bloggers now? I'm really quite annoyed with you Quoi, you seem determined to point out a flaw in every post. It's been said, but bloggers are not good sources. Much worse than an uncited wiki page. This isn't some opinion on sleep, it's a scientific argument, start treating it like one. Don't get mad at me for pointing out faults.

Some people naturally sleep for less time than others. For example, Bill Clinton was well known to sleep very little, but the average person is not Bill Clinton nor an astronaut.

I would try this.. If it weren't for having insomnia. Insomnia means I usually don't get to sleep for at least an hour once I get in bed, even at 2 in the morning. So trying to take a nap in the middle of the day, won't work.

How old are both of you? Back when I was in high school about 4 years ago it would take ~2hrs every night to get to sleep. Now however it usually only takes an hour. Do you exercise? That can help you go to sleep quicker. I didn't and still don't exercise, but I do a manual labour job so it kind of counts.

No, 8 hours is the recommended minimum. It's higher when you're younger, levels off at 8 hours/night when you're in your "peak years" (as I like to call them), and raises slightly as you get older.

I'm just about ready to kill all these morons who can't be bothered to read the explanation behind this before attacking it with their incredible quantity of insufficient knowledge. Reb, read pages 2+3 on this page, this explains why it works. Then click on my links of experimentation with this, and go explain to the people who sleep like this that it doesn't work.

Ideally the sleep for the average human who has not altered their sleep pattern would be 8 hours at night and a 1 hour nap(time can be altered) in the middle of the day, before I get yelled at for saying that this is ideal, this is the ideal sleep pattern as shown by numerous studies and tests and is not to be confused with polyphasic sleep, this is diphasic sleep.

Takes me around 30 minutes to fall asleep, more if I'm not tired. This wouldn't work for me, but if it were possible and kept me as awake as I am now with 6 hours of sleep a day I would totally go for it.

As for drinking, I don't see why you need to go out for more then 5 hours to get a drink, if you do then your liver is incompatible with this sleep regiment.

Studies show that workers are more likely to slack off on a Tuesday because psychologically the weekend seems ages away. So, scrap Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and efficiency will improve ten-fold! :roll:

Alright quoi, if you had watched the video I had posted you would have learned that if i test you before you start to sleep polyphasically and after your score will be about the same. If I give you an extra sleep chunk on the polyphasic sleep cycle your test results will be higher then before you started sleeping polyphasically.

deloriagod, for once in his life, had a point Maulmachine. But if you're so damned worked up about "productivity" (with a sleep schedule that, chances are, will not work the way you say it does) than it's no wonder you didn't get it. Or maybe you're just not old enough to get it yet, who knows.

Stop spouting off the same crap, you didn't even read what he said. People are not going to just "take a nap" in the middle of the work day. Not only would some professions deem that impossible but pretty much any profession is not going to allow that, especially not two 20-30 minute naps in one day, every day.
