Featured Replies

Ok, so i've been listening to some more black metal lately. It sounds pretty good. I was just wondering if anybody on these forums listen to this type of metal, since only one other person I know in real life does.

My bands include:

Mayhem

Darkthrone

Gorgonzolach

Immortal

Tormentor

Bathory

Emporer

Enslaved

Just to name a few.

Thanks for the replies :)

I listen to a bit, kinda like it. I really should go find some more though, currently only Catamenia, Alghazanth, Bathory and idk if you can call Dissection black metal.

WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME

#1 Wongtong stalker.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

I've been way to wrapped up in death metal to give black metal a good listen, but I'm meaning to. So far I've only heard a few songs here and there. What do you guys think are some of the best black metal albums of all time?

The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".

Amen, brother

Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)

amen Bruder! (german ftw)

I'm invulnerable to everything, except Lenin and Dragoonson.

That's impossible.

I love people.[/hide]

I listen to hipster black metal.

Bergtatt-era Ulver, Agalloch, Blut aus Nord, Wolves in the Throne Room.

The only Black Metal albums I have are Emperor's Into The Nightside Eclipse, Burzum's Hvis Lysett Tar Oss, Bathory's Blood Fire Death, Summoning's Minas Morgul, and Agollach's Ashes Against the Grain, and I love all of them. I find that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it though, and I'm not in that kind of mood very often.

There are still quite a few bands I've been meaning to check out within the genre, mainly Darkthrone, Mayhem, Ulver, Sacramentum, and Dissection.

I don't understand why Mayhem are so famous. I assume the murder/suicide happenings would have had something to do with it, but honestly, they're a pretty rubbish band.

Cool.

I've gotta say that's been my first impression, too.

I think it more has to do with their overwhelming historical significance in black metal, and the murder of course. Regardless, I could always listen to Deathcrush, no matter the circumstances, but DMDS is another story.

The thing is (as I see it), in black metal, there's a fine line between being rubbish and being trve and setting and example to the rest of the sell-out bands ;p This always amused me about bm.

"Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."

Yeah I think so. I actually enjoy some of their songs (Pure F**king armegeddon, Freezing Moon) but a lot are too low quality to even hear. The drums just overpower everything.

bathory - first 4 albums

Do you like his viking metal era as well? I know that you said the first 4 albums because they are the BM ones, but curious if you liked the Viking stuff too. Like Hammerheart, Twilight of the Gods, Nordland I and II.
