December 21, 200817 yr I listen to hipster black metal. Bergtatt-era Ulver, Agalloch, Blut aus Nord, Wolves in the Throne Room. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
December 21, 200817 yr The only Black Metal albums I have are Emperor's Into The Nightside Eclipse, Burzum's Hvis Lysett Tar Oss, Bathory's Blood Fire Death, Summoning's Minas Morgul, and Agollach's Ashes Against the Grain, and I love all of them. I find that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it though, and I'm not in that kind of mood very often. There are still quite a few bands I've been meaning to check out within the genre, mainly Darkthrone, Mayhem, Ulver, Sacramentum, and Dissection.
December 22, 200817 yr I don't understand why Mayhem are so famous. I assume the murder/suicide happenings would have had something to do with it, but honestly, they're a pretty rubbish band. Cool.

December 22, 200817 yr I don't understand why Mayhem are so famous. I assume the murder/suicide happenings would have had something to do with it, but honestly, they're a pretty rubbish band. I think it more has to do with their overwhelming historical significance in black metal, and the murder of course. Regardless, I could always listen to Deathcrush, no matter the circumstances, but DMDS is another story.

December 23, 200817 yr I don't understand why Mayhem are so famous. I assume the murder/suicide happenings would have had something to do with it, but honestly, they're a pretty rubbish band. The thing is (as I see it), in black metal, there's a fine line between being rubbish and being trve and setting and example to the rest of the sell-out bands ;p This always amused me about bm. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
December 24, 200817 yr Heck yes! Love symphonic black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Vesania, and Agathodaimon. Also, I'm in metal band that draws quite a lot of influence from black metal. www.myspace.com/thevala Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....

I actually enjoy some of their songs (Pure F**king armegeddon, Freezing Moon) but a lot are too low quality to even hear. The drums just overpower everything. bathory - first 4 albums Do you like his viking metal era as well? I know that you said the first 4 albums because they are the BM ones, but curious if you liked the Viking stuff too. Like Hammerheart, Twilight of the Gods, Nordland I and II.
