Moral Dilemma

The difference is...I love screwing with fate. Mostly because fate is often cruel and unjust. I frequently feel the need to step in and atleast try to balance out fate.

That post confuses me. This means that you know what fate means to be? And fate is flawed so its up to you to fix it? :?

No but looking to history can help predict the future. and in history...fate screws ovwer everyone. atleast once. sometimes its bad. sometimes its little. and rarely fate will aid people (whether they need it or not). I always try to act in the greater good of things simply because I feel that fate will be the end of us all. After all, it is our fate to die. So I combat fate with all my might and muster, even if I don't make a difference, i feel better for trying. It's why I give out advice to people who seek it. Because they're fate is esentially crapping on them, so I step in and help. That's how i see it anyway.

I still think it is screwed up that I lost my best friend in a car accident due to stupid road defects. But then again his loss of life was enough for the government to fix the roads in that area and prevent it from happening to others. His death also encouraged the QLD government to create adverts about dangerous driving "every k over is a killer", "slow down stupid", etc This is the reason I figured that letting the 3 people die could also path it's own destiny for the future. The 3 people who died in this scenario definitely made a difference.

Oh and I will PM you about the baby :D

Problem 1

You are at a train yard, at the side of a track. A train is approaching, and in its path, are three men about 100 meters away. They are construction workers, working on a nearby track and are wearing ear plugs and cannot hear your warning them. You could try to run to them, but by the time you got to them they train would have hit them. In front of you is a lever, if you pull that level the train will switch tracks, however on the other track is a lone construction worker, also unaware of the coming train. What do you do?

I'm a mathematician and simple numbers mean lots here. I m aware of this question having heard it before and most people would refuse to act simply on the basis that its taking that responsibility for the loss of that one life but to me I'm willing to should that burden if it saves two lives.

However I would also consider the message of my answer to the question below - there may be more options than you think.

Problem 2 A

You are in WWII. You are a Jewish person hiding away from Nazi search parties. You, and a group of survivors (about 5 people) hide in a shack. You hear Nazi soldiers nearby, when a baby starts crying. The baby is crying loudly and could catch the attention of Nazi soldiers. You could smother and kill the baby to try and save yourself, and the others in the shack, or you could allow it to live, but compromise your position. What do you do?

There are more than just the two options, first off, put my hand over the babies nose and mouth stifling the sound then funny faces would be number one attempt to distract the child, a favourite toy would also be a good alternative. Once the distraction is achieved then slowly remove my hand from the babies mouth.

Other possibilities a sweet or even just a finger stuck in a babies mouth will often quiet them.

Lastly, dont forget CPR, if all else fails the baby can be given mouth to mouth carefully with a hand held over the nose and mouth inbetween.

Basically put, dont be blind to your options, being creative can widen the scope of any situation *IF* you can think fast enough.

Problem 2 B

Alternative: What would you do if it was your baby?

See above

1. Throw rocks at the construction workers, they would notice that.

On the other hand, they are working on the track. Does that not mean that the track is unfit to be used by the train? Switch the tracks, save the train, then throw rocks at the other construction worker; he is alone, which means he is probably just inspecting the tracks.

2. If I was a brave idiot, run out of hiding, yelling, to get them to chase me.

If I wasn't an idiot, killing the baby isn't the only way to shut it up. Smother it for only a few seconds, so that the baby is forced to gasp for air, then smother again. This lets the baby go back to a normal breathing pattern.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Neither, id pick up a rock and throw it at them and when they looked at me i would point to the train. Dont tell me there arent any rocks at a trainyard.

Knock the baby out or, even though its heartless, id kill it, because its a baby and me and my wife could make 10 more of them if we lived.

1. Throw rocks at the lone construction worker fater switching the track.

2a. Place my hand over the baby's mouth, it can still breath through it's nose.

2b. Same thing, except gentler.

Depending on how fast the train is traveling, throwing rocks isn't going to be of much assistance. Also, I don't know many people who can throw rocks 100 m away...

As much as I don't want to interfere with the shhing and putting dummies in babies mouth to quieten them, if you had a baby you'd understand that they can do two things at once. Have the dummy in their mouth and still scream! lol

I'd also beg to differ that most of you would smother your own child. You'll know exactly what I mean when you have kids. And to those who seriously think they would, don't have children. Especially the person with the mentality that he and his wife can just make another one. Children aren't objects.

It was after reading this thread, I thought of posting this.

If you've read that thread, then you'd know that it was intended to question your morality, however due to some odd circumstances, response wasn't clear. Here's my moral dilemma:

Alternative: What would you do if it was your baby?

1. Why would there be a lever in a place where someone who isn't part of the train stations workforce could pull it a divert the tracks? That being said, I would take off my shoes and throw them at the three workers and when they look at me I'd point at the train.

2. This one is very simple. I would get back into my time machine and just leave. More importantly though, is why someone would travel back in time just to hide from Nazis?

2.B. I'd take my baby and get back into my damn time machine.
