Can you give me a rough estimation on how long they last? Examples are fine for any skill and any item, although I"m looking at Smithing in particular. How does certain items affect how long it lasts...? How long does 1 rougly last? Thanks.

Edit: How much longer are volatile compared to morphic?

[EDIT] Alright, so I found some more stuff out about these things. According to the post from the RSOF, 15-16-84-58083232, each tool has a *set* experience amount. In effect, it doesn't matter what you use or harvest, or what your level is, the tool lasts only until you hit that max experience cap.

Note that the values are from the normal experience values. [Thanks to Samoht Gnir, Djmoody and Sport 0 for this.]

Hammer 32,063

Hatchet 9,450 or 18,900

Pickaxe 7,140

Harpoon 13,750

Needle 21,500

Fletching is 46,875

I can practically vouch for the data here since it matches up with a test of mine -- Mining in particular. The proto-tool *will* last 142 coal.

From the determining if sc tools are worth using thread.

As for the time getting them you can get about 6-8 on a good game of SC that last 30mins.

What?

A game takes 20 mins + 2 mins of waiting, and you can get 22 points if you farm points for 10 mins then go ancient. So that's 3 tools/hour.

That's true

Volatile tools aren't worth it; they revert every 10%, which is way too short, and are a pain to keep a huge stock just so you can train one skill for a while.

If powermining iron, they last for around 14k. Don't know about the rest. :|

Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens was a catostrophic geological event, in reality it was the day that Jimi Hendrix returned to Earth from the next world and actually stood up next to a mountain and chopped it down with the edge of his hand.

Alright, there's definitely something strange about how they work :P

Some people say that the mining things last for 7k exp, but I've seen others say they last 14k...

My hammer (construction) lasted for 64k when it's listed as 32k... but then I tried using it again recently and wasn't paying attention... and it seemed to only last 32k exp.

Is there some way that they last twice as long, but only sometimes? Or am I crazy? (possibility.)

The numbers I quoted are for how much XP you'd get without the tool, THEN doubled - the ones others are giving are with the numbers already doubled, meaning they appear twice as large :P

So it should only be used for Smithing?

That's arguably the best use, yes, I suppose. Perhaps crafting and construction as well...but most of the tools are good enough to not feel like you're missing out on training anything when you play SC.

Data for the butterfly net, by the way, is conspicuously absent. :P

Smithing, construction, possibly woodcutting.

I thought the hammer doesn't work with Construction?

It does for anything you use it to make, i.e. oak larders\dungeon doors

wait, you guys can use the hammer for construction and get the bonus xp? I can use it for construction... but it never degrades and doesn't give me 2x xp..

Then your account/tool is bugged, or you are being misled. It gives 2x experience, and gives ~30k xp (~60k double xp) before crumbling to dust.
